About this property

Sumptuous Romance: Tip-top luxe lodge & garden on vast seaside estate

Meticulously restored to the Dunskey's signature exceptional standards, Wren's Nest is a lodge so special that you are guaranteed to be swept off your feet. The lodge tucked next to the heritage walled garden at Dunskey, thus maximising views of the ancient woodland and flowers climbing on the stone wall. Enter the lodge through the historic cobblestone courtyard, and note how the compassionate renovation has preserved the lodge's quirkiness while sidestepping conventionality.

A sumptuous pink velvet sofa takes the stage in the living room, underneath a rice-paper Japanese screen of soaring birds over an idyllic loch. Chrome wall lights brighten the room with diffused warmth across the walls the colour of blushing roses. The back door opens to the spacious garden, where in the gentle breeze, the pale velvet cornflower curtains sway sweetly. Another olive velvet chaise lounge provides the perfect spot for tucking into a good book, beneath the large recessed windows that looks out to the courtyard. On the walls, you'll find Dunskey's curated arts and artefacts, from feather-and-shell objects to a restored architectural frieze.

The sweet kitchen on the ground floor is fully equipped with quite possibly everything you need for your holiday. Painted in a matte jade shade and decorated with Dunskey's collection of botanical prints, the kitchen also has enough space for a sweet dining spot by the window, looking to the courtyard's pillars.

Upstairs, the bedroom and bathroom occupy the entire floor. Here you'll find an incredible mother-of-pearl headboard and a super king-size bed. Plenty of storage is available in the bedroom with large hidden drawers in the bed divan, and two charming chest of drawers. An additional Eames chair is available in the bedroom for any night-time inspired reading.

One of the best things about Wren's Nest, of course, is its spacious garden with a paved patio where you can dine all meals alfresco. The outdoor bathtub is a wonderful addition to those sunset evenings with some lanterns (included in your lodge!) and a chilled bottle of prosecco.

Dunskey Estate is a professional host managing several outstanding lodges on this stunning rural Arcadia. All lodges are fully equipped and beautifully decorated, most with en-suite bathrooms. We can organise a variety of activities such as archery, fishing, ranger and botanical walks, beach bonfires with hot chocolate, clay pigeon shooting and in-lodge Swedish massages.

Why they chose this property

At Dunskey Estate you will find a little bit of everything. Beaches, forests, waterfalls, coastal walks along stunning cliffs, two lochs with boating and fishing, a fairy door trail, our own private botanical garden, a maze, numerous hikes, and plenty of nature. Neighbouring the estate is the picturesque village of Portpatrick with a golf course, tennis courts, pubs and restaurants. This often-forgotten part of Scotland is perhaps the best-kept secret and one of the most beautiful parts of the Country.
