About this property

Newly Refreshed Cottage | New King Bed | Free Parking | WiFi

What makes Romford Street Cottage special is its unique character, fantastic location, and recent refresh designed with guest comfort in mind.

Unlike traditional terraced houses, Sunderland cottages are a distinctive style of property rarely found elsewhere in the UK. They may appear compact from the outside, but guests are often surprised by how spacious they are inside, offering generous living accommodation across two floors.

We've recently completed a mini refurbishment, including a brand-new king-size bed installed in June 2026, updated décor, new furnishings, and a range of thoughtful touches to create an even more comfortable and welcoming stay.

The cottage is perfectly located for a wide variety of guests. Sunderland Royal Hospital is just a short walk away, making it ideal for visiting family members, healthcare professionals, and contractors. Pallion Shopping Centre is nearby for everyday essentials, while Sunderland city centre is easily accessible by foot, bus, Metro, or car.

For football fans and concert-goers, the Stadium of Light is just 2.1 miles away and can be reached in around 10 minutes via the Metro. Guests attending performances at the Sunderland Empire Theatre will also find the cottage a convenient and affordable alternative to city-centre hotels.

If you're looking to enjoy the coast, the award-winning beaches of Roker and Seaburn are only a short drive or Metro journey away. The cottage also benefits from excellent transport links to Newcastle, Durham, and the wider North East via the A19 and A1.

Whether you're visiting for work, leisure, family occasions, football, concerts, or a seaside break, Romford Street Cottage offers the perfect combination of comfort, convenience, character, and value.

About the host

Host profile image
Hello and welcome!

My name is Laura, and together with my family I run JLH Property Ltd, a small family business providing accommodation across Sunderland and Cumbria.

I have always loved hospitality and creating welcoming spaces where people can relax, switch off, and enjoy time away from everyday life. Whether guests are visiting for a holiday, family celebration, work, or simply a change of scenery, I believe where you stay can make all the difference.

What I enjoy most about hosting is helping guests discover places that mean so much to us. From recommending local walks, restaurants, and hidden gems to ensuring everything is prepared for your arrival, I genuinely want every guest to have a memorable stay.

Little Apple Cottage holds a special place in our hearts. We fell in love with Appleby because of its beautiful scenery, friendly community, historic character, and slower pace of life. There's something special about exploring the countryside, enjoying a meal in a local pub, or relaxing in the hot tub after a day of adventure.

When we're not hosting, we enjoy spending time as a family, travelling, exploring the North East and Cumbria, and continually improving our properties to make them even better for our guests.

As a family-run business, we understand the importance of personal service. We aim to provide a seamless experience from booking through to departure while being available if you need assistance or local recommendations during your stay.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us. We truly appreciate every booking and hope you leave with wonderful memories and a desire to return.

We look forward to welcoming you soon.

Warm regards,

Laura

A short Metro ride or drive will take you to Sunderland city centre, where you'll find a growing selection of restaurants, bars, shops, and entertainment venues. We also love being close to the stunning coastline, with Roker and Seaburn beaches offering beautiful sandy shores, scenic walks, independent cafés, and some of the best sea views in the North East.

For football fans and concert-goers, the Stadium of Light is within easy reach, while Sunderland Empire Theatre hosts a fantastic programme of West End musicals, comedy shows, and live performances throughout the year. With the exciting development of Crown Works Studios nearby, the area is becoming an increasingly popular destination for business travellers and visitors alike.

What makes this location special is the balance between convenience and comfort. After a busy day exploring the city, attending an event, working locally, or enjoying the coast, guests can return to a quiet, comfortable cottage and relax.

What makes this property unique

What makes Romford Cottage stand out is its unique character, spacious layout, and excellent location.

Unlike many modern properties, this traditional Sunderland cottage is part of a distinctive style of housing found almost nowhere else in the UK. While it appears compact from the outside, guests are often pleasantly surprised by how spacious and comfortable it feels inside.

We've recently completed a mini refurbishment, including the addition of a brand-new king-size bed in 2026, updated furnishings, refreshed décor, and a range of thoughtful improvements designed to enhance our guests' comfort and overall experience.

The cottage comfortably accommodates families, friends, contractors, healthcare professionals, football supporters, and concert-goers, offering a cosy lounge, separate dining room, fully equipped kitchen, and flexible sleeping arrangements.

Location is another major advantage. Sunderland Royal Hospital is just a short walk away, while the Stadium of Light, Sunderland Empire Theatre, city centre, Metro stations, and Sunderland's beautiful coastline are all within easy reach. The emerging Crown Works Studios development also makes the property an excellent choice for those working in the growing film and creative industries.

We pride ourselves on providing a clean, comfortable, and affordable home-from-home, with flexible self check-in, free Wi-Fi, free parking, and responsive local hosts who genuinely care about our guests' experience.

Whether you're staying for a few nights or several weeks, our aim is simple: to provide a comfortable, well-located, and welcoming place where you can relax, recharge, and enjoy everything Sunderland has to offer.
