This is a wonderful, spacious, traditional seaside townhouse, built at a time when wealthy Edinburgh families also bought a house by the sea in order to cool off on those hot summer days.

Laid out over 3 floors, the wide staircases are a feature, particularly the winding staircase between the first and second floors (note; they're a bit too wide for standard stair gates, so may not be ideal for young children). The Living Room is positioned on the first floor, as was the norm for the time, with 3 large windows that let the light stream in. From the top floor there are views over the roof tops to Arthur's Seat from the front and across the Firth of Forth to Fife at the rear.

The house offers 4 bedrooms, Living Room, Dining Room, Kitchen, Family Bathroom with Jacuzzi bath, a WC on each floor, full gas central heating, high pressure hot water system, Primary Bedroom with ensuite, WiFi, Smart TV, travel cot, high chair, iron and ironing board, hair dryers, linen and towels. Hopefully everything you need!

Perfect short stay.

Beautiful house to stay in. Everything you would need was there. Such a well equipped kitchen, comfy lounge and very comfortable beds. A few minutes walk from the beach. Local buses near by to explore the area. A perfect break away for a catch up with family. Would definitely recommend staying here.

Phenomenal from beginning to end

This incredibly charming house was ideally located in a quaint and perfectly located neighborhood steps, from the beach, amazing restaurants and shops and within a short commute from tourist, destinations. This was a perfect place for our once in a lifetime visit to the UK.

I do like to be beside the seaside!

The house was exactly as promised , and suited everyone in my family party . It would have been lovely to have made use of the garden area but the elements were against us in early February.

A very pleasant stay

The appartment offers everything you need and more to have a very pleasant and comfortable stay. In the direct vicinity you will find 2 supermarkets, a bakery and ofcourse the beach side. Perfect location, great appartment and very pleasant people that rent this out and maintain the appartment. Highly recommendable!

Great location to explore Edinburgh

The house was exactly as described but the interior finishes exceeded our expectations. The rear east facing garden area was an added bonus. The only point to beware of is that parking in the street is hard to get, however parking is available a few streets away.

Beautiful home that accommodated 7 adults nicely. Loved hearing the seagulls in the morning! Easy access to the beach & High St where buses got us to Edinburgh & other points easily. Very tidy, clean and well equipped!!! Stayed in April 2024. Peaceful street with everything you could need in a short walking distance, including a great beach. Wish we could of enjoyed the house more than the two days we booked.

Awesome stay in Portobello!

Wonderful location. Great house. Lots of restaurants cafes pubs bakeries. Even a kilt shop on High Street for my daughter’s wedding. Easy to get Ubers downtown. We’re from the U.S. and have raveled a lot, and found this to be as fun a location as many other places we’ve stayed. Thanks

Ideal spot in Portobello

Loved our stay in this fab house! It was well equipped - great showers and hair dryer, kitchen well stocked with cooking equipment, clean house and nice cosy- ideal for February. Bedrooms were comfy and lovely socialising spaces of living room and dining room. Host was quick to reply, friendly and super helpful. Location was ideal for us, our friends house being 1 min walk away and a quick 20 min or so to town centre by car.

Victorian Fun

My family (seven of us between 5 and 70) stayed here and loved it. Plenty of room so we weren’t on top of each other. The living room is amazing with the large windows and very comfortable furniture. Would’ve loved a whisky with the fire going, but it was a little bit too warm for us. A 2-3 minute walk to the bus stop for Edinburgh, the beach and a Co-op grocery store as well as restaurants. I could see parking being a concern, but also realized that Patrick offered to give suggestions (and we found a place nearby anyway). Lovely home and highly recommended.

Lovely big house near beach

Our second stay. Ideal for the Festival and dog walks on the nearby beach. 30 mins into central Edinburgh by one of several bus routes from bus stops 3 minutes from the house. Lots of coffee places, restaurants and small shops nearby. 4 good size bedrooms. Two bathrooms and three toilets. Good size kitchen with everything needed to cook. Big lounge and separate dining room. Little bits of maintenance needed but nothing critical. Really recommended.

Beautiful historic home!

As a family of 5 including 2 couples and one single adult, this home was perfect. We all had bedrooms on separate floors and the second floor living room was a comfortable space to spend time together. The home’s location right by the beach with many restaurants was also lovely. *Note that if you are looking to see the tourist attractions in Old Town, you will have to take a bit of a bus ride to and from, and the traffic can make it a longer ride depending on time of day. But in many ways it’s nice to be away from the crowds and in the quiet beach and neighborhood setting. There are several grocery stores within blocks of the home and a large, well stocked kitchen. Also note that the washing machine is only a washer, not a dryer, but there is a large clothes line above the 2nd floor stairs that worked well. We had a very small issue with hot water one day but the host was very quick to respond and sent a neighbor over who got the issue resolved the issue right away. All in all highly recommend!

I moved to Portobello from Edinburgh City Centre when I fell in love with what was then a very dilapidated house with a lot of potential. Having spent all my spare time (and money) on the house for 5 years, I got a job in Italy and had to leave it behind in 2010. Not being able to part with it, I decided on holiday rentals which have proven to be very popular.

Why they chose this property

It's a real home. Many guests have commented on that. This could be because of all the dedication and love that went into its restoration!

It's bursting with character and many original features have been retained or reinstated, along side modern twists with lighting and art.

What makes this property unique

It's difficult to say what in particular I fell in love with when I first saw the house. It may have been the stairs and the light. There was a lovely feel to the place. The first floor living room with 3 big windows and original fireplace is a favourite, as is the wee room at the top with a view across the water to Fife.. Or the big bedroom at the top with a view to Arthur's Seat.

And I should mention the great community spirit in Porty. So many people will say hello, whether you know them or not and the High Street is full of great shops, bars and cafes.
