About this property

The Coach House - sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms

Quietly located in the village of Cold Aston, just a stone's throw from Bourton-on-the-Water, the Coach House offers space and tranquillity in a lovely setting. The countryside lanes that weave through the Cotswolds bringing you to the village, set the scene for your stay perfectly.

Throughout the coach house, original features take centre stage revealing exposed stone walls, aged timbers, and old beams. There's detail in the little touches too, with brace and latch doors, antique light switches and a wooden settle. Enjoy lazy breakfasts and relaxed suppers at the six-seater dining table, then retire to the comfy sofas set around the welcoming glow of the wood-burning stove. During the summer months, you can throw open the doors to the courtyard and soak up the late afternoon sunshine. The two bedrooms are equally enchanting with beamed, vaulted ceilings, village views and lots of space to relax. The free-standing bathtub in bedroom one just invites you to fill it with bubbles, lay back and let the worries of the world simply drift away.

The Coach House enjoys a courtyard area with parking for two cars. The cobbles to the front of the property are the perfect spot for the dining table and chairs, where you can relax in the fresh air. There are footpaths from the door and the village pub is just a short walk away.

Ground Floor
Kitchen:
The old entrance door leads into a well-equipped kitchen, the simple design fits perfectly with the style that you will find throughout the Coach House. There is a full oven, hob, and dishwasher and behind the red-framed doors to the pantry there is a fridge (no freezer), and washing machine along with all your crockery and glasses. There is also a ground-floor cloakroom tucked away in here too. The impressive settle is actually made from old oak coffin wood, and a good place to sit to remove outdoor gear.

Living Room/Dining Area:
Take a moment to appreciate the detail on the old door, with its wooden acorn weight, as you walk through to the main living space. There's an eight-seater refectory dining table with chairs and a Georgian settle along one side, and two plump sofas are placed at right angles around the stone fireplace which is now home to a wood-burning stove. Behind the timber doors on the left of the chimney breast, you'll find the Smart TV. Double doors lead into the courtyard.

First Floor

Bedroom One:
This fabulous bedroom is filled with character boasting exposed stone walls, timber floors and old beams. Soak the cares of the day away in the free-standing bathtub before drifting off to sleep in the comfortable super-king bed. This is a romantic and peaceful space with charm by the bucket load. There is plenty of storage so you can unpack, a thoughtfully placed desk and chair, and a cosy armchair, where you can relax with a coffee as the day begins.

Shower Room:
Between the two bedrooms is the bathroom with a shower cubicle with a rainfall showerhead, handbasin and WC.

Bedroom Two:
This equally delightful bedroom is up two steps from the main staircase and can be arranged as a twin, or king. Deep-set windows to the side and front, wooden beams and original floorboards add warmth and charm whilst the neutral colour scheme enhances the beautiful sense of calm. There is an antique chest of drawers and hooks with wooden hangers for unpacking.

Outside

The high gates lead into the courtyard which is only for the use of the Coach House guests. There is parking for two cars and a cobbled patio with a wooden table and chairs and a parasol. A wooden bench placed along one stone wall catches the late afternoon sunshine.

Comfort in the Cotswolds

We had a lovely stay at the Coach House in Cold Aston. Having driven in to the gated private car park adjacent to the house, we entered through the kitchen door to find a charming, clean and very comfortable holiday house. The bedrooms are large and there is plenty of storage space for clothes and luggage. The beds are SO comfortable. The bathroom whilst small has a loo, basin and a great shower . Downstairs the living/dining room is large with comfortable sofas and a log burner. There is a large dining table that seats 6 easily. The kitchen had a fabulous pantry large enough to store food and cooking equipment. It has a fridge and access to a loo. The kitchen is well appointed. The induction hob is very efficient, the oven and the dishwasher work well. We are going back next year.

What a very warm welcome from Peter. Into a very cosy coach house. Perfect reception for all of the winter wear needed a place for everything. The heated stone floor was pure joy. No slippers required after a glorious walk. The log burner also with the supply of logs welcome and full instructions given after the tour. Lots of storage space and lovely linen on very comfortable beds. Perfect post Christmas retreat. Great location for seeing lots of villiages short drives away. List of suggestions sent to my phone after out chat. Thank you Peter you're very proud of your coach house it was our pleasure to stay.

Wonderful stay

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Coach House, a charming and characterful house set in the heart of the Cotswolds countryside in a lovely village, Cold Aston, close to lots of equally wonderful places to visit. Cold Aston is a beautiful village which is very quiet and there is a great circular walk you can take around the village. The house itself is in a gated courtyard on the grounds of the main house (Vicarage) where the owner lives. Our host Peter was very friendly and welcoming. The house is full of original features and has a very interesting history. We stayed in Winter so the log burner kept us warm and cosy in the evening and each bedroom had incredibly comfortable beds. The house is spacious enough for a small family and has a well equipped kitchen and pantry area as well as a large area to store coats and boots. We would happily stay again.

Perfect stay

We booked a last minute break at the Coach House. We could not have picked a more perfect place for us. The house was well equipped, beautifully presented and a had everything we wanted for our stay. The beds and bedding were perfect after a busy day exploring the area and accommodated our request for arrangements. Peter provided some welcome suggestions for food and drink, and brought over a scrabble as we left ours behind which was very kind! A perfect place to stay, lovely Cotswolds village, and very central to all the Cotswolds highlights. Would highly recommend.

Wonderful Cotswolds experience - the Coach House is a beautiful property located in a quiet village, which made our stay very relaxing. The house is appointed with all one could need and the hosts are very welcoming. The bedrooms are cosy and the beds very comfortable. The private courtyard provides outdoor seating. We followed our host‘s recommendations for local pubs and restaurants and were rewarded with some great dining experiences. All the Cotswolds sights are pretty much on your doorstep. We had a great week and would recommend this property to anyone wanting a relaxing getaway.

Ideal stay in The Cotswolds

We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at The Coach House and would love to return one day. The house was spotlessly clean on arrival and very comfortable for a family of four. The owner was very communicative and offered some great tips. We loved the small village of Cold Aston and all the surrounding villages. Highly recommended.

Lovingly restored and well-appointed Coach House

We stayed at the Coach House for a week this summer and enjoyed it very much. The personal reception by Peter was welcoming. The space itself is beautiful. The coach house has clearly been lovingly restored and has a warm feel to it with its cozy stove, comfy beds, great shower and upscale Cornishware plates and mugs that adorn the great kitchen area!

Journey to cotswolds

Unfortunately, during this short stay, we encountered little availability and understanding. Due to an issue, we needed to change a date, bringing our arrival forward by one day. Knowing that the apartment was available, we asked to modify the arrival date, but we were not given any option. The house is very well furnished and carefully detailed, although perhaps overly elaborate (see the bathtub in the bedroom). The location is quiet and peaceful. Bathrooms are too small and without windows. Single beds are uncomfortable due to the mattresses being too soft. Host not very accommodating.

Beautiful stay, and the perfect location to get ready for my wedding

I cannot recommend the Cotswold Coach House enough! I had the absolute pleasure of staying here for two nights, including the morning of my wedding, and it was truly perfect from start to finish. From the moment I first met Peter, the owner, I knew I was in good hands. He kindly showed me around beforehand, and I was completely blown away by how stunning the coach house is. The original detailing is absolutely to die for, and the whole place just oozes charm and character. What really stood out was how spacious the rooms were; they were so much bigger than they look in the pictures! Peter was incredibly accommodating, not only in welcoming me and my bridal party as we got ready but also in offering fantastic local recommendations. He suggested dinner at The Wheatsheaf Inn, and let me tell you, it was banging! His excitement about me being the first bride to get ready at the coach house made everything feel even more special, and his kindness and understanding meant the world. The master bedroom bed was ridiculously comfortable, I had the best sleep! And the surrounding village? Pure Cotswold heaven. The location is perfect, offering both tranquility and convenience. If you’re looking for somewhere truly special to stay, whether for a getaway or a special occasion, this is it. Thank you, Peter, for making such a magical place available to guests!

Wonderful in All Aspects!

Our stay at the Coach House was wonderful in all aspects. The village of Cold Aston, where the Coach House is located, is small, exceedingly quiet, and picturesque, making it the perfect home-base for exploring nearby villages in the Cotswolds. Peter is the owner of the Coach House. He and his family live in another building (across a parking-area that’s solely for the Coach House). Both buildings are historic and made of stone that’s typical for the Cotswolds. To reach the Coach House’s parking-area, you enter/leave via a gate that requires a code, meaning the Coach House is safe, secure, and private. Peter never imposed on our time; he’s respectful and obviously intelligent, professional, and successful. Whether it was via the mobile number Bolthole advised, or subsequently via WhatsApp, Peter always responded immediately to our messages. Upon arrival, he gave us a warm welcome and explained all we needed to know. And over the ensuing first-couple-of-days, he checked with us (again via WhatsApp), to learn if we were faring well or if we had any issues. All aspects of the accommodation were spotless and new/top-quality. The beds, pillows, and linens were like those in the finest hotels: comfy; soft, smooth sheets; lots of pillows that were neither too dense nor too soft. The hot water was hot, and the pressure in the shower was strong enough to be relaxing. The stone floors are heated, so it’s easy to get/stay warm. We’re from central Canada so we like it cool indoors, so at our request, Peter immediately adjusted the temperature downwards (because we were feeling hot while sleeping). The windows open for fresh air and to hear the birds. The couches are top-quality and comfy. There’s a high-quality/new washing machine, but there’s no dryer, but the lack of a dryer didn’t matter, because there’s a clothes-rack on which we hung our washed clothes, and they easily dried overnight. It’s apparent the Coach House was tastefully transformed from a historic property into one with modern features while retaining the character and charm of the original building. Peter provided a brief history of the property and the surrounding area. He gave us suggestions for a pleasant rural walk, and for cozy pubs and local restaurants to visit. We tried a few of Peter’s recommendations: “The Plough Inn” is a pub that’s a quick walk from the Coach House. We went there on a Friday after enjoying the rural walk. (When we visited, which was during a particular week in Feb/Mar, it was only open on Fri, Sat, and Sun.) The “Horse and Groom” is a pub in nearby Bourton-on-the-Hill; it lived up to a “The Times” writer’s review as “Almost certainly England’s best pub”, because the food we ordered was eye-popping delicious. We were at the Coach House for five days before we moved onwards (to a property in Cornwall). Because of how much we enjoyed Peter’s property and how well he treated us, the next time we return to England, we’ll stay only in the Cotswolds at Peter’s Coach House.
