About this property

A Cosy cottage called Buttermere

Just a short walk from the famous Beatrix Potter House, Tower Bank Arms pub and local walks and delights, a stay at our Esthwaite Howe converted farmyard will certainly not disappoint. All of our Esthwaite Howe apartments are fitted with a kitchen with an oven, microwave, kettle and toaster, as well as basic cooking utensils and cutlery, etc. Each bathroom also has a heated towel rail and clothes airer. The communal laundry facilities with both washer and dryer are found to the right-hand side of the courtyard as you enter, which guests are welcome to use at their leisure. Do not hesitate to be in touch if you have any questions and we will be more than happy to help. A lovely tranquil place for a short stay
Third time staying here. It’s a lovely location, with views over the fields, lake and Grisedale Forest. Wildlife all around, you can watch a Barn Owl swoop around the fields at dusk or early dawn! The accommodation isn’t 5 star, but it’s clean, tidy and has everything you need for a short stay. I would definitely recommend.

Long weekend at Buttermere
The drive to Buttermere was interesting with very tight country lanes, however, once there, the views were most definitely worth it. On arrival at Buttermere cottage we thought the place was a little dated and tired but had everything we needed and was more than suitable for our needs. The one time we required assistance from the maintenance side they were quick to help and sorted the problem with no fuss. The kitchen had everything you need to make the odd meal, but there is a small pub in walking distance in case you want to eat out. (you need to book as only a small pub) Overall, Buttermere delivered and provided exactly what we needed for a few days in the Lake district.

A lovely short break
Ourselves & our 2 dogs really enjoyed our stay at Buttermere cottage. It was excellent value for money. The cottage is well presented and has everything you need. The views from here are just stunning & the dogs enjoyed some of their walks off lead with plenty of fields around that are well fenced. The bed was super comfortable & the location is very peaceful. We would definitely stay here again in the future. Perhaps on the other site for a change of scenery. It made a perfect base for relaxing, walking & exploring the lakes.

Buttermere stay
Third time staying at Graythwaite, very good facilities and good quiet location for a summer holiday. Will likely be back again next year. Recommend for any couples or families.

Home away from home
We had a wonderful and relaxing week at Buttermere. We took our 8month old. High chairs and travel cot available from the laundry room or can request. We brought our own cot in the end but high chair very useful. Views are lovely. Close to a lovely pub called the Tower Bank Arms (book in advance for food!) and 2 and a bit mile walk to hawkshead, or just under 2 to the car and passenger ferry that goes to ferry nab. Washing and dryer in laundry room very handy. Also a drying rack. Picnic benches outside. Kitchen had everything we needed. We would stay here again.

An expensive dog pit
This is a very expensive rental for something so basic. I also asked if it could be cleaned exceptionally well as I have an allergy to dogs, yet when we arrived the whole place smelt of damp dog. I could not sit on the sofas as it was clear they hadn’t been cleaned and when I sat down I came out in a rash. We spent as much time outside the property as possible as a consequence as inside the property, the lack of cleanliness caused breathing problems.

Peaceful retreat
This is a peaceful retreat in South Lake District. There are a number of units at the same location so if you want quiet and nature but not total isolation this is a great choice.

What’s not to love about “The Lakes”
We have stayed numerous times in graythwaite properties & always found them excellent. We just love the area around Hawkshead & keep returning. This was our first time in this particular apartment. It was very cosy and comfortable & had everything we needed, but was looking a little tired as it’s obviously been a busy season. It won’t stop us returning again though. Thanks again for a wonderful stay. :)

Buttermere
Everything we need for a cycling and running break .Would be good to have a hose pipe to wash bikes after being out on the hills . Only a short walk to the pub . The TV did not work but gave us a fire stick . Still it would have been nice to have some Xmas TV

Pleasant stay in Buttermere
Great setting. Lovely views. Cosy cottage. Furniture and carpets are tired and feature dog hairs. Did the job but not memorable accommodation and unlikely to book again.

Near Sawrey
A great place to stay . A short walk to the pub Tower Banks arms . If you want to eat there you would need to book well in advanced. Just a minute walk to the hotel and superb food . We run and cycle so great place for Grissdale forest . The apartment is warm and everything you need in it . So you can cook in or go out . Also they do a service where you can order food and it is delivered to you for your stay . Throughly recommend it

Not what we expected
We booked this a year ago as we were attending a friends wedding on the estate and we were looking forward to the “refined luxury” as described on the website. Instead we were met with a cottage in need of an update/TLC. The cottage was in a lovely setting but on arrival we were very disappointed. Cleanliness overall was not great, there were dead flies on the window sills, cobwebs with spiders in the corners of rooms and cobwebs on the walls. The uplighter lamp in the lounge was full of dust and dead insects. There was mould all around the shower cubicle, inside and out and this was not helped by the fact the shower leaked every time it was used. The kitchen sink taps were loose. There were holes in the bedroom carpet. The walls in the bathroom had been filled but not painted. The main light in the bedroom was dim making it difficult when getting ready. The white bedding had dirty marks on it. Overall the cottage was in desperate need of some TLC if it was to be as described on the website. Definitely not worth what we paid.
