The old town of Nice:
Nice presents itself most beautifully and originally in Vieux Nice, the old town. In fact, this part of Nice fulfils almost all the clichés one can have of a city in Provence in particular and in more southern European climes in general: Winding, narrow streets invite you to explore, hidden courtyards shaded by pine trees to linger, pastel-coloured houses and baroque churches to marvel at, and countless small shops to shop and discover.
Leave the city map in your pocket and just drift through the maze of alleys - you will automatically pass the most important sights. Do as the locals do and drink your morning coffee in one of the pretty little cafés, escape the midday heat in the cool maze of alleys and in the evening enjoy the fragrant local specialities in one of the many small restaurants, some of which specialise in specialities such as "tourte de blette", lavender specialities or small fish dishes.
The Colline du Château, the "castle hill" to the east of the city, was once the settlement of Nice. Today, only remains of the fortress and the cathedral can be seen on the hill, which is strategically located by the sea - but visitors are offered a fantastic view of the old town of Nice, which spreads out at their feet. Especially in the evening, when the sun slowly sinks into the sea, the beautiful old houses with their red tiled roofs shine in the spotlight and the street lamps transform the Promenade des Anglais into a sea of lights, Nice shows its gentle, romantic side.
Arrival from the airport:
From the airport you can take the streetcar T2 direction Port Lympia and get off at the Chateau/Garibaldi stop. From there you will walk only about 5-7min to the apartment.
Arrival from Nice Ville main station:
From the main train station you can take streetcar T1 direction Hôpital Pasteur and get off at the Opéra - Vieille Ville stop. From there you will walk only about 5min to the apartment.
Arrival by car:
Access to the old town by car is limited. We recommend parking in the public parking garage Cours Saleya (directly under the market) or Palais de la Justice. There you can also get season tickets (tickets for several days), which are usually cheaper if you do not use the car frequently.
Please note that there is a late check-in fee for arrivals after 8pm (20€), after 10pm (30€) and after midnight (50€) to be paid in cash or Paypal upon arrival. No check-ins after 1am.
