Located in central Paia, a short walk to beach, restaurants, bars, grocery, bank, boutiques. A thoughtfully remodeled c. 1934 plantation cottage, 832 SF, with modern amenities. Including: Ceiling Fans in bedrooms, office, living room and kitchen; A/C in bedrooms and office; Full-size fridge, Micro-hood, Dishwasher, oven and induction cooking pads, Toaster Oven; Wifi: Spectrum Cable 200 Internet: No cableTV. Easily log into your accounts using Roku interface: 55" 4K Ultra HD TV in Living Rm.; 40" Samsung HD 1080p TV in Kitchen; Outdoor shower w/ hot water;-) ; Washer and dryer. Propane Gas Grill;
Although permitted as a B & B, it is rented to only1 tenant. You will have private use of the home. Up to (2) bedrooms, 1-bath, office Rm, living room and kitchen. Maximum of (4) Guests INCLUDING CHILDREN OF ANY AGE. I sometimes accept shorter bookings , but only within about 30-days of arrival, around longer bookings. I hope that you will understand that accepting short duration reservations far in advance creates Swiss cheese of the booking calendar, and precludes longer bookings. Hotel/Laptop safes in each bedroom. Luna House is well provisioned, probably better than any rental you have experienced.

Office Rm.: No one can sleep in the office! It is not a bedroom or nursery. It features a tech desk with ergonomic task chair; Book shelves.

Front guest lanai / BBQ area is in the midst of significant upgrades in between bookings. A covered BBQ / cooking area is becoming increasingly functional. It currently has a a sink, interim stainless steel cart, and temporary lighting. Eventually, it will feature counters, electrical, and a bar fridge to facilitate the option for meal preparation in a lanai courtyard setting.

Fantastic stay at Luna Place

I could not imagine having a better stay in Paia. The location is walking distance to shops, restaurants, yoga, and the beach. The home itself felt like a true home away from home and there were so many small details that made the stay wonderful. The outdoor shower, lanai area, beach supplies, and well-appointed kitchen were some of our favorites.

Outstanding Property!

This is probably the most immaculate, well stocked, and thoughtfully crafted VRBO we have ever stayed (Hawai'i and beyond)! James is a wonderful host and genuinely wants his guests to have a 5 star experience. The one minor question we had for him was resolved immediately and he responded quickly throughout the booking process. This home has everything you will need if you like to cook, hang out at the beach (chairs, linens, snorkel gear, boogie boards, coolers, ect), or relax on the patio. There wasn't a speck of dust when we checked in and everything was professionally cleaned. We always expect some bugs when we stay in Hawai'i (just the nature of the area), but there were NONE here! The location is easy walking distance of downtown shops/restaurants and local beaches...it's in the heart of everything. We'll absolutely try to book again next time we are in Maui!

Luna House a perfect location for a Maui vacation

This is our first visit to Maui and we wanted to stay at a location away from the large resort areas. Paia is a wonderful small town on the north coast. Luna House, owned by Jim Huntington, is a comfortable, well-appointed cottage just a block from the main intersection in Paia. It’s easy walking to terrific restaurants, funky boutiques, and a beach. Jim is an excellent & friendly host. Everything we needed was available at Luna House. We would definitely return here.

I have 30+ years experience in homebuilding. I am trained as a cook (C.I.A. New York); NCBTMB MT. I luv international travel. I was born in LA, but grew up in Utah. UCSD for schooling. I am a lover of the arts, and especially good design and architecture. I'm a yogi, but I'm still looking for a group yoga practice that flips my flipper.

Why they chose this property

Having lived on the southside of Maui 89-93 (construction manager in Wailea), I found myself spending most of my time on the north shore. So that is where I chose to live when I returned. I prefer to commute to the nice south side beaches, and live in a more authentically Hawaiian environment. Paia is Maui's "Historic Plantation Town". Condo's are not allowed here. A 1934 Plantation Cottage is kind of a hobby. I have extensive experience in refurbishing homes with wide variance in architectural styles. My goal is to do necessary research and then thoughtfully refurbish and improve the property so that modern meets vintage seamlessly. . Hopefully I am achieving that with Luna House. Many projects are ongoing, especially in the yard, where private spaces spaces with tropical foliage are being created, BTW, "Luna" has nothing to do with the Latin meaning (moon), rather Luna is a boss, jefe, or someone with an elevated status. I surmise that the Luna's for the long ago abandoned sugar mill lived on Luna Place. The "skilled workers" lived in 'Skill Village' up Baldwin Ave.

What makes this property unique

I value living where I can keep the car parked and walk to a village having fundamental resources e.g. grocery (Mana Foods), bank, restaurants, bars, and the beach. Luna House certainly has convenient easy walking access to most of what one needs. Less of a transient tourist environment, Paia is an unusual blend of Wind Surfers and organic new age farmers from Haiku, Makawao, with a backdrop of Hawaiian plantation history.
