Beautiful Setting / Away from the Crowds

A Piece of Heaven

We both felt so comfortable and at home in this lovely open concept accommodation. The owner and manager were very helpful. They both offered hand picked oranges, tangerines, bananas and lemons that grew on the property. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchen was well appointed with everything one could need. We will definitely be back.

We loved our stay our the cottage and wished we could've stayed longer. The privacy of the cottage was perfect for us, and the centralized location on the island made day trips to each different part of Maui easy. Thanks to Barbara and Hank for a memorable trip and the lovely accommodations!

Lovely home and location. Private, gorgeous gardens and foliage surrounding, excellent attention to details, outdoor showers unique and refreshing, the close village of Haiku adorable and great restaurants, and very helpful owner next door. Highly recommend.

Perfect peaceful getaway!

Beautiful getaway

This is our second time at Hanks. It was as beautiful as the first time. Hank is such a wonderful guy who would bring me lettuce and lemons from his yard. Love the privacy of the place and Haiku is such a great time. Close to beaches , Paia Ana Makawao.

So beautiful and private!

This cottage is magical - so private, relaxing, and lovely. Hank was a wonderful host - there when we needed him and gave us privacy when we wanted it. The cottage is beautifully situated, overlooking a gulch with sweeping views of the ocean in the distance. The location is convenient to much of Maui, the beaches, upcountry, and the Road to Hana were nearby. It was a perfect place to spend a week - I only wish would could have stayed longer!

AMAZING HONEYMOON LOCATION!!!

This property is an absolute must for a honeymoon - a secluded, beautiful, unique property with a view of the ocean! This is a spot we hope to come back to in the future! Far enough from people to enjoy the privacy but close enough to beautiful little towns and more importantly a Raising Canes to make this a truly amazing location! Hank is amazing to meet and spend some time chatting with - such a cool life! His hard work on the beautiful property shows!

Perfection

We celebrated our 40th anniversary here and could not have selected a better place to stay. Everything seems to be in like new condition. We have always prided ourselves on leaving a better than we found it but will be hard pressed to do that here. Barbara and Hank are the perfect hosts sharing their awesome lifestyle and produce while respecting your privacy. I highly recommend Ho'okipa. Bayview Cottage.

Wonderful stay in Haiku at this cottage. Super clean, quiet, good bed, all the requirements. We felt it was centrally located to things like Paia, Hana Highway, Baldwin Beach, Baby Beach, Mama's Fish House, nyloS Chef's Table Restaurant, etc. Hosts are friendly and nice, even bringing flowers one day. We enjoyed time on the deck, in the rain, playing cards and when it was nice and we'd been out all day at the beach, taking an outdoor shower! How cool is that? Wonderful.

One of our favorite share rentals in the world.

This is our second time at what we call Hank's Place (or Hank's Hawaiian Hideaway, sometimes). It is tied with one other place (in Spain) as our favorite share rental in the world. Hank is a wonderful and reliable host -- there when you need him; not there when you don't. Best of all, it is a FRAGRANCE-FREE RENTAL!!! (Not counting the soaps and shampoos that are provided; but the bedding is, the most important part; and also, no annoying potpourri.). Although you are on the "rainy side" of the island, that is no problem for us. The trade-off is that you are in paradise, surrounded by beautiful nature in every direction, and complete privacy. I could not recommend this place higher. We hope to come back every single year.

Awesome place in the heart of Maui

We stayed for two weeks and really enjoyed our time. Everything is clean and comfortable (wish we had gotten the brand name of the bed) and the amenities are well stocked. The kitchen has everything you need to cook meals in, though one of the best sushi spots we’ve ever been to is just a few mins away (Nuka). The host was friendly, helpful, and quick to respond. He also shared fresh vegetables from the garden and had a basket of snacks waiting for us when we arrived. The cottage is very private and quiet, off the road a bit and surrounded by the jungle - the views are breathtaking. And you’re in a central spot on the island so it’s easy to get to Lahaina, Kihei, Hana, or up Haleakala. Only heads up (because it doesn’t seem to be in the listing) is that this is a studio, not a 1 bedroom. We both worked from here for two weeks perfectly fine (the internet is strong and there’s a table on the lanai).

Great location! Beautiful views!

We really enjoyed our stay at this property! The views were great and the location was fairly central for our island adventures. We had pretty much everything we needed there. Loved that they had night lights, beach chairs, soft sided coolers, chip clips, and lots of other little touches that most rentals don’t have. It did get a bit warm in there at times, but the 3 ceiling fans and Vornado fan helped. The tub on the lanai was great for cool nights and early morning soaks while listening to a variety of birds. There’s chickens everywhere on Maui and the roosters will crow a lot! We loved seeing all the geckos and lizards on the property. One night we saw a large buck (deer) as we returned from dinner. We loved the privacy here and we were still a short drive from the beach, restaurants, shopping, groceries, and other activities. The bed was really comfy but the pillows were just ok. The outdoor shower was great to rinse sand off and the indoor shower was really nice with good water pressure. Hank was a great host and we would stay here again.

A Perfect Stay

A true delight! Barbara and Hank have created a home away from home that is everything you dream of when planning a trip like this. Having never been to Maui, we were worried about the location being too isolated. We found this to be a wonderful spot. Convenient to see the big waves, bike Haleakala and take the road to Hana. Right near the wonderful towns of Paia and Makawao. An easy drive to Lahaina and Wailua/Kihei. Great restaurants right nearby. We travel extensively and I don’t recall ever staying in one place for almost 2 weeks, and yet, we could have stayed longer. We will always remember the beautiful Hibiscus and tropical plants at the cottage. I have to go home and build an outdoor shower! Barbara thought of everything! The property is perfectly maintained, lovely and private. I cannot fully express how much we enjoyed our stay. We will return. Do not hesitate to book here- it will be the highlight of your trip to Maui.

A real-life dream

The cottage is even better than advertised! This beautiful home is nestled amongst a rainforest paradise with complete privacy, a view of the ocean, and every amenity you can imagine. This is truly one of the best places we've stayed. The Kline's include everything from beach towels and chairs, a cooler, island snacks, to basic toiletries. I must admit, I had to have one of the glycerin soaps for later use! The welcome packet included all sorts of information for shopping and dining, information about the cottage, and fresh local fruit. Around every corner is something to make your stay perfect like the outdoor soaking tub, large hammock, and BBQ grill. Sleep with the windows open to be lulled to sleep by island breezes and wake in the morning to tropical songbirds. The cottage was impeccably clean inside and out and I felt at home from the minute we arrived. I never met Barbara, but she called to welcome us and answer any questions. The Kline's are right next door should you need anything. This will be the only place we stay when we visit Maui, hands down.

A perfect place for newlyweds (or oldieweds).

Sometimes the pictures of a VRBO are selective in showing the property, omitting the fact that it's next to a major highway or some other annoyance. In this case, the pictures don't do the place justice. Yes, it's on the same property as the owners, but they've placed it so there is absolute privacy. The owners are lovely people who clearly love Maui. This place is perfect. The bed is comfortable (always a crapshoot with VRBOs) and the views are accentuated by two sides of almost all glass doors. The ventilation allows all sorts of delightful smells into the room and birdsong is a constant but not annoying reminder you're not at home...you're on vacation. The outside shower was a particular delight. It has warm water, so it's not a beach rinse-off type shower. It's a legit shower and it feels great to stand under warm water, with sun hitting parts of your body that usually don't get much. It's decadent. And again, private. It's five minutes from Haiku Town, which has most of what you need. Grocery store is well-appointed and not outrageously expensive, though expect Hawaii prices. Remember that most if the stuff in the store has to be shipped several thousand miles, and that ain't cheap. There are a few food trucks in the parking lot, which are fine. The sushi at the restaurant in town (Nuka) was very good. Baked on Maui is a great little breakfast spot at the old cannery, a great place to chat with locals (and their dogs). If you want long fine sand beaches, you might have to drive south to the resort area, but we loved Baldwin Beach ten minutes away just the other side of Paia. Again, mostly locals. We are already planning on our return trip in three years. So many places to go, so little time...

I live in Haiku on Magical Maui. I'm on the verdant, lush, gorgeous North Shore...not in the crowded tourist areas. I've lived in the islands over 40 years and 25 of them on Maui. I love Haiku because it feels like country, yet we are only 5-10 minutes away to great restaurants, art gallerias and boutique shopping. All properties around are a minimum of 2 acres so there is seclusion and privacy. I love to garden and enjoy all of the tropical plants that have been planted and lovingly cared for. Guests enjoy the exotic, tropical plantings with vibrant flowers everywhere. Some call it a tropical oasis. There is also a huge organic veggie garden that I love to share with guests, along with all kinds of citrus fruits and bananas. Guests come from all over the world and enjoy the relaxing ambiance that the property provides. I look forward to meeting you sometime too.

Cottage guests love Haiku. They love the seclusion and privacy. Many guests have stayed at the high end hotels and condos and prefer the cottage because it is so comfortable and located on a spectacular piece of Maui real estate. We are in the country, but only a 5-10 minute ride to great restaurants, art galleries and boutique shopping and the beach.
