About this property
Deerwood Cabin: Quiet Rustic Lakeside Luxury [Sleeps 11]
Quiet Rustic Lakeside Elegance. Perfect setting for a relaxing vacation during any season. Spacious log-sided cabin on 2.5 acres. 4 bedroom, 2.5 baths. Recently completed paved biking trails allow you to ride your bike from the Deerwood Cabin to the spectacular Cuyuna Lakes Bike Trails that twist their way through the Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area, and the towns of Deerwood, Crosby, Ironton, Cuyuna, and Riverton. Over 30 purpose-built trails to choose from, everyone from beginner to pro, can enjoy the breath-taking rides and overlooks.
The cabin is 200 feet from the shore of quiet Black Lake; large enough to water ski or tube [there is a public access - bring your boat] . . . but small enough to explore with a canoe [2], paddleboat, Stand Up Paddleboards [4], or kayaks[2] [all provided]. You will often find yourself the only boat on the lake. Less than 1/4 mile from a public access to Serpent Lake, known for its abundant walleye population. Included in the rental is the use of a PK4400 Paddle King paddleboat [4 adults, 820 lb capacity], 2 canoes, small fishing boat [oars only], 2 kayaks, and 4 Stand-Up Paddleboards. New in 2025: a Key Log Rolling log - learn a new sport with your family and friends! Life jackets, slalom skis, knee board, and floaties are provided. A pontoon boat is available for rent - if interested, please let me know . . . it will be delivered to the dock. Private 7' x 10' swimming raft and 6' x 18' Aqua Lily Pad [a buoyant on-water floating island]. Large yard for games, and an inviting fire pit [kindling, firewood, hot dog and s’mores sticks provided]. Large wrap-around deck to enjoy sunrises and the call of the loons. Private deck off the primary bedroom. Lakeside deck, with power for charging your devices, 15' from waters' edge. 3 docks, two with an 8' x 16' end section and one 8' x 32' dock/deck with benches adjacent to shore [over water]. All docks have stairs. Attached 2.5 car garage to store your bikes, sleds, and toys. Lots of parking. Central air conditioning and heat. Walkout basement with ground level deck. Regularly sprayed for mosquitoes all summer long.
About a 25 minute drive from the "big town" of Brainerd and 2 to 2.5 hours north of the Twin Cities.
Bedroom #1 Main level with King bed, full bath, Jacuzzi tub, and private deck [lake view].
Bedroom #2 Lower level with log Queen bed.
Bedroom #3 Lower level with log double bed and a log single bed [lake view].
Bedroom #4 Lower level with log Queen bed and 2 single beds [lake view].
This is a perfect family and friends get away.

About the host
Hosted by Vrbo #1148179

After retiring from the US Army, we built this cabin, living here for 13 years. In 2014, we had the opportunity to teach on the island of Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands. After 10 years of living on Kwajalein, we are now doing America’s Great Loop [google it]. Not living in our cabin, and not willing to put it up for sale, we decided to let others enjoy all that it has to offer.
We hope you enjoy your stay as much as we enjoyed living here!

Why they chose this property
After having traveled the world during 20+ years of active duty in the Army, we chose to build our cabin in a small town in a location that offered four distinct seasons, each with their own unique beauties. It's nice being away from life in the big city.
What makes this property unique
It's a great area to "get away from it all." The local bike trails are truly world class, and are only getting better. The recreational opportunities offered by the local lakes are unlimited. Local hunting and fishing are top notch. The fall colors rival that of any place on earth. You can have all that, plus the quiet beauty of a campfire on [almost private] Black Lake. Here, you'll really find what being "Up North at the Lake" is all about. Come and enjoy it!
