Remote traditional shepherds cottage, a rural retreat on working livestock farm
Girnwood Holiday Cottage is a peaceful and relaxing self catering cottage ten miles from the Borders Woollen Mill town of Hawick. The extensive views from the property are of unspoilt border hills but you are close to the farmhouse where the owners live and work should you require any assistance. The garden is full of birds and wildlife. Red Squirrels, roe deer, foxes, badgers and buzzards, curlew, lapwing, can be seen regularly in the woodlands nearby. The cottage accommodates SIX people with a double and a family bedroom (2 double beds) upstairs with 1 folding single bed or cot to use for younger guests. Let us know if you need these on booking and we will prepare them in which ever room you want. All bed linen and towels are provided. The spacious sitting room is comfortable with a large corner sofa, dining area and log burning stove. Hot water and base central heating is provided by a new oil fired boiler. But please use the stove to add to the heating and hot water. All fuel is included in the price. TV with Freeview channels, DVD player and radio and large library of DVDs Books and games and Lego. There is no wi-fi and variable mobile phone connection in the cottage. Please come to the farmhouse if you need internet connection. Outside games kit and toys are kept on the ' the stair-well mezzanine'. The bright kitchen has cooker, microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. A small electric tumble dryer is in the log store. Highchair available. The downstairs bathroom has a large bath and separate electric shower. The large garden has a picnic table for al fresco dining and space to have a BBQ if required. Gas BBQ available in summer months. Girnwood Farm is a working farm with 500 Cheviot sheep and 40 Luing cattle with Aberdeen Angus calves so in Spring there will be lambs and calves to see and haymaking and sheep shearing in the summer. Pets are welcome and can be lose in the garden but we ask that dogs are on a lead at all times when out walking around the farm. Dogs are NOT allowed on the beds. Please bring their own bed or blanket. And Please No incontinent dogs! Scotland promotes Access for all to the countryside so you are free to walk cycle or ride anywhere. Stroll down to the river or head out to the hills and walk the extensive forest roads and tracks watching the wildlife. Use the countryside code and protect the great outdoors. A peaceful relaxing cosy country cottage awaits. Enjoy the abundance of nature right outside your door while you relax unwind and reconnect with family or friends and take life at a slower pace. Local amenities are to be found in Hawick (10miles) with shops and supermarkets. Famous for its Knitwear, Rugby and Common Riding Festival there is Heritage Hub for history or just enjoy the cafe and cinema or live music on offer. There are lots of places of interest nearby including Castles, Museums, Galleries, Gardens and Leisure centres. Edinburgh is easy to access by train. Tweedbank station has free parking and you arrive in 1 hour into the heart of the city.
