About this property
Grand Historic House at the foot of the hills overlooking lush countryside.
Welcome to The Walled Garden, a distinguished country residence nestled at the foot of the South Downs. Once part of the historic Danny Estate, this elegant retreat combines timeless English charm with contemporary comfort. Just 9 miles from Brighton and moments from Hassocks, it’s the perfect countryside escape for families, friends, and anyone seeking peace, beauty, and a touch of grandeur. With sweeping views across the Downs and lush gardens, The Walled Garden offers a truly memorable stay.
Dating back centuries yet lovingly maintained, this grand home exudes warmth and character at every turn. Generous proportions, original fireplaces, and serene countryside vistas set the tone for rest and reconnection.
KITCHEN / DINING AREA
The heart of the home, the kitchen overlooks the walled garden and is fully equipped with modern conveniences — including an induction hob, oven, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster, and ample cookware and tableware. Whether you’re preparing a simple breakfast or a celebratory feast with local produce, everything you need is close to hand.
Gather in the spacious Dining Rooms, where a central log burner adds a glow to every mealtime. With French doors leading onto the garden, this is a space made for long, laughter-filled evenings and leisurely lunches that roll into golden afternoons.
LIVING AREAS
The house features five beautifully appointed reception rooms, each with its own character and charm:
A bright Drawing Room with bay windows framing stunning countryside views — perfect for unwinding by the fire or enjoying conversation with friends.
A cosy Snug with vaulted ceilings, huge table and French doors opening onto a sunny patio — ideal for reading or morning coffee.
Additional rooms for quiet reflection, home working, or simply spreading out and making the home your own.
With multiple spaces to gather or retreat, The Walled Garden offers an effortless blend of comfort, privacy, and conviviality.
SLEEPING AREA
There are four thoughtfully designed bedrooms, each dressed in crisp linen and soft tones that echo the tranquility of the surrounding landscape:
Bedroom 1 – King bed with feature fireplace and en-suite bathroom (first floor)
Bedroom 2 – Double bed (first floor)
Bedroom 3 – King bed with countryside views (second floor)
Bedroom 4 – Double bed with garden outlook (second floor)

A ground floor shower room for convenience
A further family bathroom with bath tub - the perfect spot to unwind after a day on the Downs
On the top floor a shower room featuring a steam shower and picture views of the South Downs.

Pet Policy
We welcome well-behaved dogs at The Walled Garden, but kindly ask owners to follow these important conditions to help us maintain the charm and comfort of this special property:
Sleeping arrangements: Only the main first-floor bedroom has no fitted carpet; it has a rug which must be rolled up if a dog is staying. Dogs are not permitted in the other three bedrooms or on the stair carpet to the second floor.
Furniture: Dogs are not allowed on any upholstered furniture. If guests wish to allow their dog on a sofa or bed, they must bring their own protector, bedspread, or duvet.
Essentials: Guests must bring their own dog bed or rug for their pet.
Garden etiquette: It goes without saying — all dog waste must be picked up immediately. Our gardener maintains the grounds to a high standard, and dog mess left on the flower beds or in the path of the robot mower is simply unacceptable.
Thank you for helping us keep The Walled Garden a welcoming and well-cared-for retreat for all guests.
Hydrotherapy Pool:
Booking Use
Use of the Hydrotherapy Pool is by arrangement only.
Guests must request session times in advance; they are to be discussed and agreed upon individually.
A contribution toward maintenance, heating, and cleaning costs may be requested. Please note that use of the pool is not included in your rental, and guests do not have automatic access.
Age Guidelines
The pool is waist-height throughout and safely heated, making it suitable for babies and toddlers—provided they wear appropriate sanitary swimwear.
Children and teenagers must be strictly supervised at all times.
This is a quiet, therapeutic space—not suitable for jumping, splashing, or rough play.
Supervision & Conduct
Guests are expected to behave in a calm, respectful manner.
Any form of boisterous or unsafe activity is strictly prohibited to prevent injury or equipment damage.
Capacity Limit
The Hydrotherapy Pool is designed for a maximum of 2 people at a time
