A frigid stay in Fife!
The house is great, and this was the second time we've stayed here. Unfortunately, this time, the house was frigid. We tried to increase the heat with the thermostat, but the agent informed us that we were setting the heat too high. We were being monitored by the owner through the internet and we were told by the agency that the owner insisted that we turn the heat down. The owner was able to override the thermostat remotely. A recent remodel of the bathroom on the first floor included a heated floor. I believe the heat from the bathroom floor threw the central system's thermostat off, so the reading on the heating system was inaccurate. The upstairs bedrooms, kitchen, and living room never registered above 15 degrees Celsius on our portable thermometers, even though the thermostat was set at 19 for a good portion of the day. I would recommend the thermostat be placed in the upstairs hallway, away from the independent bathroom floor heater, so the furnace for the house would provide a liveable environment. In the future, the owner and agent might try to listen to their tenant's concerns rather than tell them to be more concerned about the environmental impact of the heating system.
