About this property
Christmas at Gites Rue Due Chateau - sleeps 10
Three linked cottages available as a block booking for Christmas and New Year. Ideal for friends and larger family groups when you would like to have separate accommodation but be on the same site. Cosy log burners, seasonally decorated, with spacious grounds for a winter stroll. Surprisingly peaceful and within walking distance of cafes, bakeries, supermarkets, a bar/beer warehouse and market. Close to the enchanting villages of Verteuil-sur-Charente and Nanteuil-en-Vallee.
Situated in the grounds of what was once part of the old Chateau estate, our cottages offer a little haven of tranquillity; a place where you will be able to relax, have fun and make those precious memories. The two and a half acres of part walled garden and small woodland includes a beautiful clear stream running through an ancient lavoir, with plenty of space for wandering and taking in the nature and beauty on a winter’s day. Every day you could wake up to the sound of birdsong, a running stream and the local church bells in the distance.
Described, in one of our reviews as, 'a beautiful place, with a fine balance between modern comfort and ancient charm'.
During the winter months, we offer three cottages for group bookings, which will accommodate up to 10-12 persons comfortably (ideally a maximum of 10 adults, because the twin bedroom, in our Lavender Cottage, is a walk through room and more suited to a family with children). All three cottages are linked by a shared hallway/laundry area and additional shared dining space, which will seat up to 8 comfortably. An additional table, to increase table space, can be provided if needed. The property is securely gated and there is space for parking four cars on site.
Garden View Cottage sleeps up to 4/5. A large room with either twin beds or king size bed and large double room with king size bed, adjoining dressing room with a day bed, ideally more suited to a child. This room has a balcony over looking the gardens. Downstairs bathroom with shower, upstairs WC, large traditional kitchen with log burner and large living space with additional log burner, plus electric heating. Direct access to outside terrace overlooking gardens.
Sunflower Cottage sleeps four, one double and one twin room. Upstairs bathroom with shower and downstairs WC, small kitchen, small dining area and sitting room. Front door leading to a very quiet, access only street. Electric heating.
Lavender Cottage sleeps 4, large double bedroom with king size bed accessed via an adjoining twin bedded room. This adjoining twin room would ideally be suited for two young children. This twin bedded room has no external window but does have natural light coming from the large king size room and from adjacent landing sky light. Upstairs bathroom with luxury bath with shower attachment for rinsing hair only. Please note this cottage does NOT have a shower. Group bookings may benefit from using a shower in one of the other cottages. Kitchen, large dining room and living space. Downstairs WC. Front door leads to a very quiet, access only, street. Electric heating and cosy log burner in dining room.
Sunflower and Lavender Cottages have access to a covered terrace and extensive gardens via shared hall/laundry area which also has additional dining space if needed for a group booking.
Anna and Ian live on site to ensure a friendly welcome and will be available should you need anything. You will occasionally see us maintaining the grounds during your stay.

About the host
Hosted by Anna-Lisa Pedlow
Ian and I made the decision to change our lifestyle and relocate from Norfolk, England to France, in April 2022 and we are very much in the early days of establishing our home and holiday cottage rental business in the historic town of Ruffec. I love live music and festivals and anything magical. I used to work in education, specifically in development of Early Years education. My partner, Ian, is a musician and we both worked in the public sector; together we have worked hard to use our past skills to build a beautiful and welcoming place for families and friends to spend time together.
Why they chose this property
Situated in the grounds of what was once part of the old Chateau estate, our cottages offer a little haven of tranquillity; a place where you will be able to relax and feel at one with nature and at the same time, have fun and make those precious memories.
We have four, re-styled, cosy French cottages available for holiday rental all year round. Especially ideal for larger family and friend's bookings, when you would like to have separate accommodation but be on the same site.
The two and half acres of walled gardens and woodland offer plenty of space for some privacy and includes a beautiful stream running through the old lavoir (former wash house), woodland path, pool, mini boules area, BBQ, outside kitchen and dining area, cosy fire pit corner and access to covered terraces.
Every day we now wake up to the sound of birdsong, running water and the toll of the local church bells in the distance. Surprisingly peaceful, but within walking distance of a restaurant, bistro, bakeries, shops, beer warehouse and a local market. You can choose to stay on site or venture out and take part in one of the many local activities on offer, including, the Rejallant canoeing centre, cycle paths, adventure parks, local lake activities or visit a Chateau.
Anna and Ian live on site and will be available should you need anything during your stay.
