About this property

Step back in time,beautiful restored village property in the centre of Verteuil.

We welcome you to our restored 17th century village house in the heart of beautiful Verteuil sur Charente.The property is at the foot hill of the chateau and only a stones throw from the river and mill.The village has 5 restaurants,wine bar,butchers,general provisions shop,Antique shop,Ladies and gents hair dressers,chemist and florists.Our property has a very large kitchen dining area on the ground floor,which has air conditioning.The 2 bedrooms and bathroom are on the 1st floor.The bedrooms are set up as 1 double and 2 singles.To the 2nd level is a very large living room with views of the chateau.Our property is registered with the Chambre de Commerce Angouleme as a Gite.We have also been approved by the Ruffec tourism office and listed on their website.Recently "James Martins" French Adventure was filmed on location here in Verteuil.We also have an area by the river which guests can sit back and enjoy.We supply a table,chairs,bbq and charcol.
Since July 2016 we have welcomed guests from the following countries.France,Spain,Holland,UK,Germany,Australia,Italy,America,Canada,Corsica,
Wales,Ireland,Jersey,Panama.China,Hungary,Belgium,Czechia.Poland.

Beautiful location for day trips

I have several things I want when I travel to France from the USA - near a patisserie for croissant, parking that is free, great WIFI and usually air conditioning. This house had everything except the air but the photos and location allowed me to go ahead with our rental. The local patisserie (10 steps away!), a boulangerie around the block, a small market, a nice weeknight market where the whole town showed up with picnic tables set up and food to buy, a nice restaurant and a food truck on Friday night with fish and chips were all nice surprises. There is one parking spot right next to the house, but as it is on a smaller alley and I had a rental car, we opted to park the car in the town square which is a 3 minute walk for free. We were able to watch the World Cup Women's Finals on the downstairs cable TV and watched DVD's mainly Hitchcock movies upstairs on the 3rd floor. There were three fans available and we did use those in the evening for sleeping and for watching TV. Kitchen was nicely equipped but honestly, we ate out lunch everyday and did not use it at all! Our emails were answered promptly and we were met at check-in and check-out by our delightful hosts. There was no street noise perhaps due to the fans except on garbage pickup morning but that is to be expected. Thanks for allowing us to use your wonderful property.

Accueil très chaleureux des propriétaires et frigo rempli à notre arrivée. Malheureusement, nous avions sélectionné ce gîte pour son jardin car nous venions avec 2 chiens. Or, il n’y en a pas. Seulement, un carré de jardin non attenant situé à 50 m du logement non clos, qui appartient à la commune et non aux propriétaires. Pas de barbecue, pas de bouilloire électrique, pas de climatisation. Le gîte n’est pas isolé et ne possède pas de double vitrage, de volets ou de rideaux occultants. Un climatiseur est disponible uniquement au RDC dans la cuisine. La chaleur était intenable au 1er et 2ème étage (sous les toits directement). Les ventilateurs hors d’âge n’ont pas suffit. La plomberie est défaillante, de même que l’électricité (certaines prises ne fonctionnent pas). Des problèmes de WC bouchés sont venus finir de gâcher notre séjour, il a fallu aviser. En plus d’un vis-à-vis avec les voisins sur notre SDB et WC, nous n’avons pas pu nous reposer car le gîte se situe sur la rue principale et très passante du village. Vraiment dommage car il a beaucoup de charme.

Lovely historic house

A lovely historic house with the needed modern facilities. Great reception by the hosts with nice drinks and food. The bakery is next door. Staying here for some time makes you feel like one of the villagers.

Our stay in Simon and Dianne ´s house was perfect. The house is beautiful and well equipped. We even had some wine and fresh beers in the fridge. Beds are very comfortable. The village is magic and well located close to many places of interest. Simon and Dianne are really nice and did their best to make our stay very pleasant. We really recommand their house. Wonderful cottage in the heart of the village

We had a lovely stay in this beautiful cottage, which has been beautifully and thoughtfully restored. The cottage is spread over three floors and feels very spacious. It has everything you could need for a short or longer stay, with beds, towels etc of high quality which all makes for a comfortable time. The cottage is in the centre of the village - next to the boulangerie, close to restaurants and cafes and a (very) short walk from the river and the castle. Finally, special thanks to Simon and Dianne the owners and restorers of this cottage for such a warm and informative welcome.

Wunderschöne Wohnung in bezauberndem Dorf

Die Wohnung ist der Wahnsinn! Antik eingerichtet und urgemütlich. Verteuil ist ein wirklich hübscher Ort mit Chateau, Fluss, alter Mühle... einfach malerisch! Simon und Dianne sind unglaublich herzlich und hilfsbereit. Es war ein fast perfekter Urlaub. Etwas störend leider war, dass die engem Gassen die Geräusche von Autos etc. kanalisieren und es daher manchmal etwas laut war.

Wonderful historic property

We spent a couple of nights here and found the property to be charming. Very old and sympathetically restored to a high standard. Simon, the property owner was very helpful and allowed us to keep our bikes in the property. The property location is just about perfect. Literally 3 steps from a very good baker and a few more to a local shop, restaurants and bars. Easy parking (free) about 50m away.

Beautiful place to stay, both the house and its location. Great value for money. Be back next year!

A wonderful place to stay! The open fireplace with plenty of firewood included was our favourite part! Comfortable beds and plenty of towels supplied. The house was nice clean and we found everything we needed for cooking etc. There were plenty of places nearby to eat and drink also. Overall we absolutely loved the house and really enjoyed our stay. We’re looking forward to our next visit!
