Town: Lying on the north bank of the River Beauly, just 12 miles west of Inverness, the village of Beauly is situated at the very heart of the Highlands. An excellent location for touring, the village is within easy reach of Loch Ness, the ancient Caledonian pine forests of Glen Affric and Strathfarrar and the coast (sandy beaches 8 miles). The name Beauly comes from the French “beau lieu” or “beautiful place” and the village prides itself on being both scenic and well-kept, having won both Scotland and Britain in Bloom titles. One of Beauly's highlights is the ruined 13th Century priory, around which the village was built. Today the village is famous for its craft-based industries and offers an excellent selection of shops, pubs and restaurants. With some of the best scenery the Highlands has to offer just on the doorstep, Beauly makes an excellent holiday base!
