Today, it has become a thriving seaside town with a fabulous Blue Flag beach, attracting holidaymakers and visitors alike. The town is home to many attractions, including the South Shields Museum where visitors can delve into the history of the area, the Ocean Beach Pleasure Park, ideal for a family day out and the iconic Souter Lighthouse, where you can climb the 76 steps to the top for spectacular views. There are also plenty of scenic walking opportunities along the coastline over spectacular and cliffs and rocky bays, along with two fantastic parks, the South Marine and North Marine Park, which are perfect for an afternoon stroll.
