About this property

Luxury hideaway on historic Sussex stud farm in area of outstanding beauty

Stay in the grounds of an ancient medieval English manor house, in a stylishly-converted recording studio, where Pink Floyd once recorded parts of their iconic album, 'Dark side of the Moon.' Daniel Day-Lewis spent much of his childhood here, when his grandfather owned Apedroc. Now a 110 acre stud farm breeding racehorses, this timelessly beautiful setting is also home to peacocks, rare-breed sheep, deer and comical goats. In spring, Apedroc's woods are awash with bluebells and in summer old English roses abound. Apedroc is set on the edge of the historic Ashdown Forest, once the home of Winnie the Pooh and his friends. Pooh Sticks Bridge is a brief step away, and there are three very traditional old English pubs within a mile. On summer Sundays there is village cricket to watch on the Croft in the quintessentially English village of Hartfield. The great houses at Hever Castle, Penshurst Place, Scotney Castle and Chartwell are close by, as are the dramatic gardens at Sheffield Park, Wakehurst Place and Gravetye Manor. The historic towns of Lewes, East Grinstead and Tunbridge Wells are within easy reach, and the dramatic splendour of the South Downs, towering over the sea, are less than 30 miles away. Local vineyards, such as Rathfinny and Bluebell, are now the place to find some of England's finest wines. You could take a trip on the charmingly-preserved Bluebell steam railway or a magical night of opera at Glyndebourne is a possibility, as is a visit to Alfriston, quaint former home of Virginia Woolf. Alternatively, you can just stay here & drink champagne on the terrace, as the sun sets over the fields and the stars glisten in a peaceful country sky.
