Nearby Brixham is a historic, quaint fishing town, home to several picturesque beaches and secluded coves. The local pubs, restaurants and cafes offer plenty of choice, making the most of the fantastic local produce and freshly caught seafood. Crabbing along the harbour side is a great way to pass an afternoon.
The local community put on some of the best harbourside events in the Southwest. Fishstock, the Brixham Heritage Rally and Lanterns, Lights and ‘luminations with a magical lantern parade, fireworks and street market are just a few. For pirate-themed fun with sea shanties and street entertainment, the Brixham Pirate Festival is held once a year.
Climb on board the life-size replica of Sir Francis Drake’s The Golden Hind that stands majestically in Brixham Harbour. Brixham Heritage Museum, is packed with fascinating exhibits about Mayflower II and tales of Brixham life during The Great War and Second World War.
Within walking distance of the coast, join the South West coast path and if you are feeling adventurous, Berry Head National Nature Reserve is around an hours walk, a must-visit with real ‘wow factor.’ Perched high up on 200 feet (60 metre) cliffs with its iconic lighthouse, this beautiful headland is surrounded by water on 3 sides and has some of Devon’s most breathtaking views.
Paignton is another option, home to a lovely Victorian pier and Paignton zoo.
