Meta Lake House has all high end appliances/furniture/bedding etc from granite counter tops, gas stove, A/C, wifi, gas fireplace, 2 large screen TV's, and lots of space to spread out. The property is designed for enjoying all aspects of the North Woods: Dock on Catfish gives you access to the entire Chain of 28 Lakes, take your boat for burgers at Braywood or pizza at Twelve Pines or swimming on the sand barge. We provide paddle boards for our guests use as well as a row boat on Meta Lake dock, plus a sandy beach. We greatly enjoyed our stay at this property! There was ample space for our group of 12. Beds and furniture comfy. Ample kitchen supplies. Loved the deck and large table outside for dining. Would be great to have a sofa bed in the living area downstairs for adults not interested in sleeping on a bunk. We’ve stayed on Meta Lake before and it is our favorite northwoods location. The swimming area was sandy and gradual - perfect! We also loved having access to Catfish Lake for our pontoon rental. Very interested in returning!

Great place for a family vacation

Clean, lots of indoor and outdoor space, and 4 bathrooms! Access to Catfish Lake is a comfortable 4-5 minute walk. It was our only concern when renting and we found the walk to be no big issue. Just bring a wagon. We will be returning.

Family Time

We stayed here last here and all agreed that we wanted to come back. The grandkids loved fishing off the dock and Meta lake is perfect for kayaking. We kept our boat at the dock across the road on Catfish and had no problems. There was enough room for all of us. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. It helped that the weather cooperated also. Wish we could’ve stayed longer.

Wonderful Vacation

We had a wonderful week at Meta Lake. The house had everything we needed: plenty of beds, a bath and a half on each floor great kitchen, a screened in porch and lovely deck which we enjoyed. Meta Lake offered a great place to kayak and paddle board and for those in the group that brought their own kayaks they were able to access the chain of lakes on the Catfish Lake dock. We enjoyed the fire pit we enjoyed the area - hiking and biking on 3 Eagle trail, some mini golf and several visits to Peanuts ice cream! It was a great place for a family vacation!

Summer 2024

We had an amazing week! Perfect weather in the perfect place! The house is beautiful - all the comforts of home were thought of. Everything inside and outside is immaculately cared for. The location with it's swimming and boating docks was ideal for our family. Appreciate all that our host, Kristi, did prior to our arrival to insure our visit was seamless. Made so many awesome memories with the kids and grandkids!! Looking forward to returning again for many summers to come!

Best Vacation EVER!!

The house is immaculate, we stayed there with 5 families, total of 13 people and everyone had a blast. The lake is perfect for swimming, all sand bottom and shallow enough for little ones to walk into the water. We had 2 large fishing boats with us that were docked across the street on catfish lake. It is a very short scenic walk on a trail to get to a nice pier. The owners even let us use their boat lift when docked. It was fun to go to all the surrounding lakes by boat that connect with catfish, but we did find the fishing to be the best on catfish. We caught perch and walleye. More than enough to feed our group of 13 and still have some to bring home. I can't say enough nice things about the property, it is gorgeous. Wifi worked great, beds are so comfortable and the screened in porch became everyone's favorite place to be in the evenings. Our first night there while we were all gathered in the screen porch we watched a bear walk the shoreline right in front of the house! Have been to Canada for the past 12 years and never saw that! Everyday walking to the boats on catfish we saw deer on the trail and even in the yard at the house. Saw more eagles while out fishing than Canada. And who doesn't love the sound of the loons, especially at dusk. I look back on my pics from our week at Meta Lake House and instantly go back to the happy place in my heart and head. Kristi was wonderful to work with!!♥ You do not want to pass up staying here. Best of both worlds....fishing and swimming! -Julie

Great communication from our host and the house was the perfect spot for our gathering of six friends for a pond hockey tournament. Comfortable beds, clean showers, and a good sized living room to relax month fire and talk. The house was immaculately clean and well-supplied, close enough to town and yet located in a beautiful setting which felt remote. Highly recommend.

This was our second year enjoying a multigenerational family vacation. We love the Meta Lake house and the ability to enjoy paddle boarding and kayaking on Meta and Catfish lakes. The kids enjoyed playing in the sand and the shallow water by the dock. We loved the fire pit and making s’mores! Great place for family time!

Perfect house for spending quality time with family.

Enjoy Meta House, lots of room for everyone to spread out. We had 7 adults and 4 children 2 years old and under, this house fit us perfectly. Will definitely suggest to my family and friends. Kristi was very helpful in getting all the stuff I left in a closet at the cabin back to me.

Fantastic home on tranquil lake

We had an amazing week at the Meta Lake house with family. The home is beautiful and spacious with enough room for a group. The paddle boards and kayaks were a huge hit with everyone and the lake is calm and peaceful. We saw deer, loons, and eagles right outside the door. Highly recommend!

We loved our stay at the house, there was plenty of things for the adults and grandkids to do.

Our family loved being able to use the paddle boards and kayaks on Meta Lake. The younger kids spent hours jumping off the dock at Meta Lake. With a short walk over to Catfish Lake we could go fishing from our pontoon boat on the Chain of Lakes. The house was very well finished with plenty of places for dining and relaxing. When one of the grandkids would fall asleep we moved the group to a different area to hangout in. The kitchen had the nicest cookware of all the places I have stay at in the last several years. Trust me, when cooking for 3 families that’s a big plus. Having 4 bathrooms in the house was such a luxury for being up north. Kristi was great to work with during the stay. Loved this place.

Meta Lake House Family Vacation

Everyone had a great time. My grandsons especially liked fishing off the dock where they caught lots of fish that they released. We brought one of our own kayaks and used the two there and the sups. There was an eagle that perched in the trees and we enjoyed listening to the loons at night. We kept our boat on Catfish. It’s not a real easy walk if you’ve got bad knees but I made it! The whole family enjoyed our stay here.

The 10 plus acres has been in the family since it was purchased in 1904. My husband, Tim lived all over the world growing up as a child, and the only place that was his "US home" was this family property in Eagle River, that they traveled back to every summer. His mother wrote a book about the history of the land, it's people and the original cottage build in 1909 and is still standing. We feature a copy of the book for guests to read in all three of our rental houses, and guests have loved reading it and walking the land afterwards.

Why they chose this property

The property is one of a kind as it allows you to spend your days in either lake based on the weather: when Catfish lake is windy, Meta lake is completely protected and still, so truly best of all worlds and provides many choices and fishing off 2 different docks...the pathway to Catfish dock is a lovely path through our forest with wild blueberries and ferns. It is a gradual slope so all ages can enjoy the walk: from little ones that want to take our wagon, or to those that use a walking stick or walker.

What makes this property unique

The house sits on a long untouched shoreline of Meta Lake. At the lake, you will find a dock with a swim ladder, sandy lake bottom and bench to sit on the dock in the middle of all the fun. Most days you can catch frequent sightings (from the house and the dock) of our resident loon, eagles, osprey and ducks. In the evening, relax on our decks or watch the game in the large living room or family room. At the end of the day, watch the sunset "golden time" while enjoying s'mores by the fire pit.
