Interestingly, Yealmpton is home to Mother Hubbard's Cottage from the nursery rhyme, formerly the home of the housekeeper at Kitley House, who was the muse for the story. Dartmoor Zoological Park is easily reached, as is Wembury Beach and Saltram country house, an outstandingly beautiful, Georgian mansion in Plymouth. Brixton is another popular village nearby, with a shop, Post Office, friendly, real ale pub and Just Williams restaurant, as well as plenty of countryside walks.
