The Old Smithy in Great Walsingham still has the original sign over the door, and whilst packed with period features, has been stylishly renovated to create a light, airy and comfortable cottage. Ideal for two or three guests with a lovely open-plan living area, a large wood burning stove, two double bedrooms upstairs, both with a bathroom and a downstairs shower room, makes it a peaceful place to relax, unwind and explore close to the coast.
The open-plan living space is both cosy and sociable, with defined spaces for sitting, dining and the kitchen. This charming room retains beautiful features like solid board flooring an exposed brick wall and original Crittal windows with wooden shutters. This is a wonderful space to relax, curled up in front of the wood burning stove in the cooler months, with a book or watching the smart TV and to enjoy a tasty meal, seated at the dining table, that has been prepared in the well equipped kitchen. There is also a small utility room with washing machine and dryer off the entrance hall. On the first floor, due to the age of The Old Smithy building, the bedrooms have a rather unusual (but handy!) layout. There are two doors, one for each side of the bed! Tucked under the eaves this bed is not suitable for anyone very tall. On both sides of the bed is a dressing space with a window, so this is a lovely light room. The bathroom for this bedroom is opposite and has a bath with hand held shower attachment, WC and wash hand basin. The master bedroom is a good size, again with restricted height in places, with a double bed, chest of drawers, full length mirror and a chair. There is good storage and hanging space provided in the fitted wardrobes. The bathroom for this bedroom is immediately adjacent, with a free-standing bath and hand held shower attachment.
Great Walsingham is a great base from which to explore the Norfolk coast and countryside. The historic village is actually smaller and quieter than neighbouring Little Walsingham, with a stream running past the village green. Within walking distance Walsingham barns has a cafe, galleries and shops. Little Walsingham is a picturesque medieval village and famous Catholic pilgrimage centre. With stunning beaches and Wells-next-the-Sea only five miles away, The Old Smithy is a great base for exploring all that North Norfolk has to offer.
Additional Information: Due to the age of the property the first floor rooms have restricted height in some places. Please note, bedroom two has two doors, one on each side of the bed, allowing access to either side, but there’s no room to walk around the foot of the bed. Sorry no pets. Travel cot and high chair provided on request. Please bring your own bedding for the travel cot.
