Set in a traditional Wolds village, this comfortable house is a welcoming base for exploring both the east coast of Yorkshire and its rolling countryside. Welcoming couples and small families, it has lovely views, two en-suite bedrooms and a courtyard in which you can relax over a leisurely meal.
Formerly the village fire station, this bright and airy property has an open-plan layout on the ground floor, with the living, dining and cooking spaces flowing freely from one to the other, and decorated with accents of fire-engine red. In the comfortable lounge, leather sofas and a TV invite you to stretch out and relax, perhaps watching a movie on the Blu-ray player or picking up a book from the shelves. The adjacent dining area, set by the garden doors, leads through to the kitchen, where you’ll find everything you need to prepare delicious holiday meals. There’s a shower room with a WC downstairs, too, and upstairs are two bedrooms, both with built-in wardrobes: a double with an en-suite bathroom, a TV and glorious country views, and a spacious twin with an en-suite shower room. For fresh air and al fresco meals, the rear paved courtyard is equipped with a table and bench from which you can gaze at the views and count the local sheep. As the former fire station, the cottage is on a main B-road, and it’s sometimes possible to hear some road noise.
The village of Sledmere is home to a Georgian stately home, Sledmere House, which has a walled garden, cafe, adventure play area and rare breed farm park. For independent shops, tea rooms, restaurants and a weekly market, the historic town of Driffield is 7.5 miles away, and you can reach the coast at Bridlington, a traditional seaside resort with golden sands, in 17 miles.
