About the area
About this property
Elegant country house in Oakham, Rutland.
Lonsdale House is a magnificent Georgian house situated in Barleythorpe, Oakham in the rolling Rutland countryside. Combining tasteful style and exquisite architecture, Lonsdale House is perfectly positioned for exploring the beautiful market towns of Oakham and Stamford, as well as the stunning surrounding countryside.
Originally, Lonsdale House was part of the "Barleythorpe Hall" grand estate associated with the wealthy Lonsdale family. Imbued with history, showcasing architecture from the 18th and 19th century, Lonsdale House retains all the charm and grandeur associated with a classic country home, alongside great comfort via 4 double bedrooms with modern, contemporary finishes. This is a perfect place to explore the local area or simply retreat behind the private gates and relax into the quiet space.
Upon entry through the beautiful portico and double entrance doors, you will find the elegant lounge room complete with solid, reclaimed wood flooring. Beautifully proportioned with high ceilings and large windows offering views of the garden, this room has impact and elegance alongside all mod cons, e.g., Smart TV.
Downstairs WC accessible from the lounge room.
To the right of the lounge room you will find the snug/games/TV/study room. Complete with Smart TV, built-in desk with printer, and a whole cupboard full of games and puzzles for children and family alike. Double patio doors lead directly onto the garden providing stunning sunsets and wonderful countryside views.
To the left of the lounge, the large dining kitchen (the original scullery) shows off its impressive Georgian proportions magnificently. With ample space for entertaining, the dining kitchen area has double doors leading directly onto the patio area and garden. This is fully equipped with everything needed including an induction hob, extractor, and 3 separate ovens (one doubling as a microwave). Gas fired wood burning (real flame) stove situated in the corner provides ample heat for the whole room if needed. This is the perfect space for gathering for pre-dinner drinks at the breakfast bar, reading in the leather chair, or even playing the piano!
To the rear of the kitchen is a utility room with washing machine, iron and board, and clothes airer, should you wish to make use of these during your stay.
An elegant wide staircase rises from the lounge room to the spacious first floor landing that comfortably accesses all four double bedrooms and the family bathroom. All bedrooms are fitted with bespoke, cream blackout blinds and have amazing countryside views.
Master bedroom suite (bedroom 1): Queen sized bed complete with built-in wardrobe, plus ample storage via 3 antique chest of drawers. Smart TV with Roku. The ensuite bathroom has full length bath and a separate stand-alone shower.
Bedroom 2: At the other end of the house is bedroom 2. With double the amount of windows, the views are spectacular. A double bed, built-in wardrobe, study desk and chair, and chest of drawers completes this smaller but perfectly formed room. The ensuite shower room off this bedroom is huge and consists of stand-alone walk-in shower.
Bedroom 3: Accessed off the landing and perfectly placed for the family bathroom. A solid pine king sized bed awaits you here. You will find storage via a grand chest of drawers and built-in shelving.
Bedroom 4 – The white room:
Accessed off the landing and close to the family bathroom. You will sleep in a double bed with pine chest of drawers for clothes storage. Reclaimed wooden flooring and a large floor standing mirror completes this room.
Outside: Electric double gates open onto a wide gravelled carriage driveway with ample parking for several vehicles. Across the driveway, the lawned garden offers space for tracking the sun and playing children's games – this spills effortlessly onto the terrace where a Weber barbeque, fire pit, patio dining furniture, and outside sofas can be provided upon request (some coals and wood to start you off can be provided).
