About the area
About this property
Villa of Artists in the Heart of Umbria
Villa of Artists is a charming stone farmhouse (280 sq m) on three floors, featuring internet, WiFi, and a private pool. The property can comfortably accommodate up to eight guests in four bedrooms with two bathrooms. The house is located just 3 km from Canonica and only 51 km from Perugia.
The Villa degli Artisti is located in the most panoramic spot in the Todi region, with 360-degree views of the surrounding hills, mountains, and villages. The area, centered around the city of Todi, was already considered "the most livable place in the world" by a Columbia University survey in the 1980s. But it was before that that the most cultured "citizens of the world" (travelers, artists, and various cultural figures) chose it as a place of residence, relaxation, and a place to stimulate creativity. Within walking distance of the house are, to name just a few, the medieval monastery renovated by the Italian artist Piero Dorazio and the farmhouse, also renovated in the 1970s by the American artist Nicolas Carone.
The Villa is therefore at the center of a network of beauties, a reminder that its owners, Deborah Masters, a prominent contemporary artist, and Geoffrey Wilcox were themselves the curators of the restoration. The property was structured as it is today, renovating a large country farmhouse and adapting the extensive surrounding land. The restoration was undertaken with respect for the architectural, historical, and aesthetic characteristics of Umbrian-Tuscan farmhouses, while remodeling the spacious interiors for each bedroom. A large living room/kitchen, connected to the outside by an original staircase and a small portico, was left largely intact. Another, much larger portico, used for outdoor dining, is located on the opposite side of the farmhouse and equipped with a barbecue.
The surrounding area preserves a large grove of centuries-old olive trees, juxtaposed with a variety of plants and flowers for decorative purposes, particularly around the swimming pool, which was also designed to complement the surrounding architectural and landscape design.
The Villa degli Artisti is furnished with furniture and furnishings inspired by the surrounding residential culture, with gardens and thoughtful additions of fine modern furniture, as well as a series of contemporary artworks by the owner and her circle of artists. It should be emphasized, however, that the tasteful and beautiful blend of traditional elements and contemporary touches has never lost sight of the need to make the stay as comfortable as possible.
