About the host

Hosted by Fiona Byrne-Sutton

Host profile image
I grew up in Geneva, the daughter of mountaineers, then lived in Italy before studying fine art / ceramics and social anthropology in the UK. I've lived in Scotland for most of my adult life and am very proud of Skye. The combination of mountains, water and weather means Skye feels like home from home. I am also fortunate to have Skye family. I love introducing visitors to this magnificent island. I run a local French conversation group which is fun and participate in ongoing art exhibitions.

Why they chose this property

Sleat and South Skye is lively. The University of the Highlands offers Gaelic courses. Many artists and musicians live here - locals meet up for exhibitions, gigs and all manner of talks and events. There's such a diversity of people. If you want to do something you can make it happen.
I love the changing light - I always tell my visitors you can't step into the same view twice. The woods and birdsong make me absurdly happy.

What makes this property unique

Coachmans Quarters is a modernised carriage shed that was attached to the former Torabhaig manse. It's warm, bright and airy and really accessible for travellers arriving off the ferry and the Skye bridge. Sleat is quieter than North Skye; you can get away from the crowds which is a relief in peak season. It's close to the Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, Torabhaig Distillery and the Armadale Castle Gardens.
