All visitors to Raleigh will be thrilled with the convenience of this locale -- 15 minutes to RDU Airport, RTP, PNC Arena, North Hills, Downtown Raleigh, North Carolina State University (NCSU), the Capitol, and much, much more.

The guest house can sleep up to 6. A double in one bedroom and twins in the other, as well as a double futon located in the common area, can be supplemented with a queen and two twin air mattresses, for those who prefer to sleep alone.

Great for couples on a weekend get-a-way, visiting family in Raleigh and the Greater Triangle, and this is a business traveler's dream come true and can very comfortably manage individuals or a small crew. Super low weekday rates ensure your visit to Raleigh doesn't break the budget! Sunday thru Thursday book for 1 night or more! Weekly (7 days) and monthly (30 days) discounts applied automatically.

Recreational opportunities abound: At the house we have a 1950's style regulation ping-pong table, Pro Kadima paddles and soft tip darts. Our communal pool has lanes for the serious swimmer and a splash pad for our youngest! Walk/bike the 3.5 miles of award-winning trails to the NC Museum of Art, explore Raleigh's Capital Area Greenway, enjoy our neighborhood pool (June 1 to Sept. 15).

Close by are NCSU, UNC, & Duke -- and all of their sports venues!

Clean, well-behaved dogs (please see paragraph 10 of my rental agreement for more information) accepted on a case by case basis. Playpen and crate available as well as the ability to confine the animals to the kitchen, or fenced 20' x 16' concrete patio. This safe walkable, upscale neighborhood that has easy, close access to the Capitol Greenway trails make this the perfect get-a-way with your furry friend(s).

Wherever you are from, "Welcome to Raleigh, y'all!"

This 2 bedroom, one bath bungalow, is a nearly original example of mid-Century modern architecture nestled in the heart of Raleigh, built-in 1953.

Ridgewood is a safe walkable neighborhood and boasts convenient shopping at nearby Ridgewood Shopping Center( a short walking distance (.03 of a mile) Whole Foods Market and Walgreens Drug Store).

The neighborhood connects in several directions to the magnificent Capital Area Greenway trails. To the west, the trails lead to the North Carolina Museum of Art (with its own nationally recognized 3.5-mile award-winning trail system with amazing sculpture along the trail). From that trailhead, you may go north to Lake Boone Trail and Crabtree Mall. Heading east you can safely ride a bicycle to downtown
Raleigh, and beyond.

Please feel free to bring your road bikes, ATB, and mountain bikes, this area is a paradise for avid bicyclists. We have a professional bicycle repair rack and a full complement of professional bicycle tools available if needed.

In the spring, your senses will be delighted by an array of blooming trees and beautiful flowers, including Dogwoods. The fall brings a dazzling explosion of color during leaf change.

This is a quiet, restful spot beloved by those seeking quiet repose. It is great for deep meditation, or concentration on work, or other projects. Some of my past guests have studied for the Bar Exam and GRE, in the weeks prior to the examinations.

Historical Data -- Originally, the B. Richard Jackson House, a/k/a the Carrier Weather Maker National Prize-winning House, the house was built in 1953 by Eduardo Catalano and his colleague, also from Argentina, Horacio Caminos (both of whom were in residence at the NCSU School of Design).

They applied for and received a $5000 prize from Carrier for this design in 1953. In fact, Caminos was able to bring his family from Europe as a result of the Carrier grant. This home was built to showcase and demonstrate the value and affordability of air conditioning in the moderate price range.

The magazine "Living For Young Homemakers" selected this home for its April 1954 issue. It was also featured in the Raleigh News and Observer on January 30, 1954.

The Architect: Eduardo Catalano formerly taught at the Architectural Association in London until 1951. It was then that he was recruited as a Professor of Architecture by Henry Kamphoefner for the NCSU School of Design and moved to Raleigh. Although their tenure at NCSU was short-lived Catalano built two houses in Raleigh. His residence has since been demolished due to the neglect of later owners. Mine remains a rare example of the MCM bungalow.

In 1996 Catalano and Caminos moved together to Boston and taught at MIT until his retirement in 1977.

Buildings designed by Catalano include the US embassies in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the Julliard School of Music at New York City's Lincoln Center, and the Stratton Student Center at MIT in Cambridge MA.

Sweetest Place!

We really loved this cute and quirky place, in a great way!!!! It had every amenity we needed, from appliances to fully-stocked kitchen. Tucked away in a absolutely beautiful quiet and safe neighborhood, but minutes from Whole Foods, Harris teeter, target, Costco and anything else you might need. We will definitely come right back here next time we are in Raleigh!

Great and fun guests! House left clean and cared for. Hopefully, Eli will be able to hold Henney Penney next time he is here. I felt really badly that y'all had to hold off and stand back, I know he wanted to pet her. The roosters have found a new home and the hens are taming down nicely! See you soon.

Great house in a beautiful neighborhood!

We stayed here with our dog over a weekend when attending my son's graduation from NC State. The house had everything we needed and is located in a wonderful, quite neighborhood, yet was a short drive to everything, including the University and great restaurants. Ellen was very accommodating, even supplying us with pancake mix, eggs and bacon for breakfast. We will definitely be back!!

Perfect for Family Weekend

My boyfriend, mom, dad and I stayed here for NC State's Family Weekend and it was perfect! My parents got there before us and they said check in was very easy. The house had everything you could need and was very close to campus. Our favorite part was the outdoor patio and sitting out there and drinking coffee in the morning. Thank you so much Ellen!

Perfect location and great value

The bungalow was perfect for a short business trip - it was clean and stocked with everything that was needed. I was surprised to find a printer and hookups for an external keyboard & mouse, which was perfect for laptop users. It was under 15 minutes from RDU and Downtown Raleigh, and in a upscale neighborhood. The property manager went out of her way to make sure everything was provided, including firewood for an outdoor fire pit! It was a great and spacious alternative to a hotel, and a better value.

Mr. Ahern and his business associate communicated well -- both their needs and arrival and departure time, and were extremely courteous. They left the house just as they found it and tidied up prior to departure. They are welcome here whenever their travels bring them to Raleigh!

BETTER than home

Overall, I cannot recommend the property highly enough. Everything as described, and more. We had eggs, bacon, pancake mix and coffee fixin's provided. The TV with ROKU allowed us to watch anything we wanted when we were there. Indoor and outdoor spaces were thoughtfully appointed, and the location could not be beaten: quiet neighborhood but absolutely close to everything. There was tons of info about the area provided. This is a MUST STAY with a great host/steward of the historic house and certified natural habitat surrounding it.

Mid-Century Charmer surrounded my nature's magic

I absolutely loved this property. Mid-century is my favorite architectual style, and having this beautiful and authentic home to enjoy was a wonderful experience. The surroundings were magical. Watching baby bunnies, birds, and chipmunks happily play in the protected area that surrounds the home was a perfect way to enjoy the floor to cealing windows. Learning the history of how the home was conceptualized and who designed it made the stay even more special. The home has a lot of original features, but that is part of the charm. The neighborhood offered many more mid-century homes and lovely streets to get lost in while enjoying the trees. Would stay here again.

Raleigh Adventure

It was our 1st time in Raleigh and couldn't have been more pleased with our location. We were close to shopping, restaurants and downtown. We enjoyed activities such as Ann and Jim Goodnight Museum Park (both indoor & outdoor art exhibits), The Drive Shack, Raleigh Market and concert at the Red Hat Amphitheater. Some of the restaurants we would recommend is Lilly's pizza, Cape Fear Restaurant, The Peddler Steak House, City BBQ (Kildaire Farm Rd, Cary), and LA Farm Bakery (NW Cary Pkwy, Cary). Thank you Ellen for being a great host. We really enjoyed the amount of indoor and outdoor space we had to spread out when we wanted to. We had everything we needed & more. The ping pong table brought back some good childhood memories for me & now my daughters say we need one. ❤️

Stay in Raleigh

This was my first time using VRBO. It was a pleasant experience. This property owner was a great host. The house was clean, comfortable and the owner thought of everything including coffee, fresh eggs from her chickens, bacon, pancake mix, oranges and all the condiments if we wanted to cook. There was a clothes washer and dryer and detergent. It was like being at home. Great stay….

Work-cation in Raleigh

I stayed at a VRBO so I could bring my pet on a 3 night work trip and this house was my best option! It is a great location, has quite the 1950s decorative taste, and a very comfy queen bed. I didn't do any cooking, but everything you would need is present. The owner even had 2 sampler boxes of tea, creamer and coffee, and eggs from her very own chickens! If it had been warmer the outdoor patio looked swell! Thanks so much!

A Raleigh native, and ITB enthusiast, whatever you are looking for in Raleigh, I can probably recommend the spot where you can find it: casual and fine dining, music, nightlife -- the whole package.

Guided bicycle tours of the trail system are available for a nominal fee.

Why they chose this property

Though I had lived out of the area for nearly 40 years, I loved coming home to what I have always called the, "Garden Spot of the Universe."

This past year was the first in 38 years that I have been home, year round, through all four seasons. The Universe did not disappoint me -- the muted pink, white, purple and blue hues of spring's sweetly fragranced flowers gently chased away the cold of winter.

This spectacular display was followed by a mercifully mild (cool) summer -- a time when the whole area turns emerald green, and opportunities abound to take advantage of the 25 recreational lakes and rivers in central North Carolina.

Autumn's leaves loud cacophony of brilliant color, announces that winter will soon be here.

Recent pristine snow made me know that this year the beauty of the area was my homecoming gift! It brought to mind many, many happy times, here among majestic pines when the entire city shuts down to enjoy the snow. During snows, the Raleigh Parks Department provides 'flying saucers' at Dix Park and you can sled the hills until your toes and fingers won't let you stay outside another minute.

Won't you join me?

Please believe me when I say, "Welcome to Raleigh, y'all!"

What makes this property unique

I am so delighted to be able to share this experience with you and other travelers. As is typical of mid-Century Modern (MCM) houses the brilliance and qulaity of light is fantastic from dawn to dusk. You must experience this to understand and I welcome you, one and all.
