We really enjoyed our visit to the Layton House in the Keys. The location was wonderful and very private with its own boat dock and pool. Very clean and spacious. Linda was a fabulous host. We would love to come back again one day!
Everything with this home surpassed our expectations. From the cleanliness of the home, to the privacy, to the evening fishing from the dock with my kids. Linda was absolutely amazing to work with and made us feel at home as soon as we arrived. Needless to say, it was hard to leave when our trip came to an end, however we now plan to be repeat renters of this home!
Our group found the house very spacious. The house and pool was extremely clean. The landscaping is trimmed and manicured. The history of the house is very interesting. Linda is great. The views and sunset from this property are spectacular.
So happy with our stay at Layton house - the house, pool, outdoor spaces were lovely, sparkling clean and well appointed. Every detail was carefully thought out and of high quality. Hated to leave!
This is probably the cleanest house we have ever rented. Linda was very accommodating and gracious as the host. You can sit and look at the water and it is so quiet and peaceful all you hear are the fish jumping and the birds flying by. The grandchildren loved the dock to fish off of and the open space around the home. We kayaked several times and really enjoyed the peaceful relaxing stay in the Layton House It is as advertised and you will not be disappointed!
This is a truly great property. The house is cool old-school Florida with great facilities, clean as a whistle, very well-outfitted, and very spacious; we had 8 adults staying and even when we all were in the kitchen preparing meals, we didn’t get in one another’s way. The house and gardens are well-taken care of, in the way only a hands-on owner who truly loves their property can be. And the house is full of great personal touches, reflecting the lives of the owner’s family in Layton. The owner is very kind and super prompt in responding to messages. But the best part is the outdoor space. So much of it, and so hard to find in the Keys. Loved the private beach, the dock, the cool pool and pool area, and especially the tiki hut where we spent hours taking in the fabulous water views. We constantly talked about how we have to return, but only if this house is available . . . anything else would be a let down.
This property is absolutely gorgeous. The owner was super helpful and kind to our family. The property was very clean and all our needs were furnished far and above what I expected. If you want to just relax and read a book and do absolutely nothing.. this is the place to do it. My favorite things were the quite mornings watching the sun rise and the quite evenings watching the sun set and making smores for the first time in my life. Thank you Mrs. Linda....
We cannot be more happy with Linda and her house. We had such a great week. The house was VERY clean, and even better than the pictures. Cannot thank you enough Linda! We'll be back FOR SURE!!
This was one of the best properties we have ever stayed in. The owner provided everything we could possibly need to make ourselves at home. She even greeted us with a loaf of homemade pumpkin bread. The gazebo was a great place to hang out during the few Florida showers we had while there. The private pool was wonderful and the sunset views from the firepit seating were breathtaking. Would highly recommend this property.
Our stay at the Layton House was everything (and more) than we could have ever expected. What a beautiful view! The house and the grounds were pristine. Linda was very responsive and available and was willing to share a wealth of information about the area. The house is immaculate and has history references on the area that is very interesting. My husband actually sat down and read one of the many books from cover to cover "Pioneer in the Florida Keys: The Life and times of Dale Layton"and found it to be very informative and interesting. Among the many amenities of THe Layton House was We enjoyed fishing; kayaking; dock access; watching the sunsets from the kitchen and master suite and the beach; other beautiful views of the ocean from different rooms in the house; a beautiful cabanna for grilling and enjouing the view; and a beautiful pool for relaxing in the heat of the day; and
We loved the Layton House - huge outdoor and indoor space, pool, fishing, kayaking, learning about the history of Layton, etc. Every night we built a fire, watching sunsets and gazing stars. My grand-kids loved swimming in the pool, fishing, swimming with dolphins, and a trip to Key West.
If you have a large family with young kids, the bedrooms would work. For adult couples, you might share Jack-and-Jill bathrooms. Overall it was one of the best vacation places. Thanks Linda!
The property is on the water in a beautiful part of the Keys with every detail considered. This is an old family home and the generational care of the property makes it a lovely and unique place to stay.
Linda is a wonderful, warm, generous and incredibly helpful host.
We literally loved every minute and hope to be back soon.
Our family of 7 enjoyed everything that the Layton House offered. The description is 100% accurate as described and the pictures don’t even do the beauty of this private oasis justice.
Breathtaking water views and lots of fun outdoor activities like fishing, kayaking, and swimming in the heated pool were some of our favorite things.
The indoor space was perfectly spacious, very clean, and very comfortable. We loved how quiet and private the house is situated. The hostess Linda was extremely welcoming and wonderful to work with. We look forward to returning!
Loved the house, very nice view of the sunset. The saltwater pool is the best pool ever, we spent a lot of time there and loved it. Linda is a very nice and helpful host.
We had three couples stay in the Layton house for a week in January 2024. The property is just awesome - private beach, fishing pier, huge pool, large outdoor kitchen/gazebo.
Linda the hostess is just the best! She lives next door and is always ready to provide anything needed.
The kitchen is amazing - not only functionally but also the views. The bedroom situation is the only caution. It is great for families, and tolerable for couples. The master upstairs is huge and would sleep several children with their parents. The downstairs bedrooms are smaller, share a jack and Jill bathroom. Again, great for a family but not ideal for friends/couples but not a deal breaker either. The rest of the property and Linda more than make up for any deficiencies in the bedroom layout!
The views and amenities at the Layton House are perfect, and Linda the property manager is awesome! The property is gorgeous and the kitchen in the house is amazing. One caveat would be that two of the bedrooms are on the smaller side and share a bathroom - not a big deal for a family but not ideal for a group of friends. As long as the bedroom space meets your needs, however, you absolutely cannot beat this place!
This property was amazing for our extended family Christmas getaway. The accommodations were stellar and would be good for any special occasion venue like a wedding, corporate retreat, or simply a family gathering like ours. It felt like a home away from home. The kitchen was well stocked with necessities as well as gadgets and cooking equipment. There were multiple gathering spaces. Linda was amazing from the decorated Christmas tree, special baked goods left for us, and her fore thought to help guests with deciding on excursions, places to eat, and general history of the area. The pool heater went out during our stay and she had it fixed immediately without any interruptions to our stay. The property lends to being active with swimming, kayaking, and walking/exploring the local state park to also a very serene time to watch sunsets, read, or simply sun by the water or pool. We didn’t want to leave! We saw dolphins just off our “beach” area at least 2 of our 7 days and some other sea life as well. Our visit to the near by turtle hospital and subsequent live release to the wild was an highlight to our trip. It’s very private yet located centrally to enjoy the upper keys of Key largo and Islamorada easily as well as excursions to Key West. You can’t go wrong with this property!
Place was fantastic. Very clean and comfortable. View of the water and sunsets were out of this world. Definitely reccomend this place. The owner lives on property and was very friendly and kind. She was quiet and gave us space we didnt even know she was there. 5 star
The Layton house is not to be missed! It was the perfect setting for my daughter and my low key birthday celebration. It was private and comfortable. The house, beach, property and pool were immaculate. Linda, the owner, was attentive and available if your needed anything but unless you sought her out, you wouldn’t know she lived next door. Upon arrival we were greeted by the most amazing pumpkin bread that she had baked for us! We will definitely be back!!
Words cannot do the justice describing the beauty of the Layton House. The sunsets will transcend your soul into tranquility. The house in spacious and the open water views make you feel like you are on a ship. Linda’s attention to detail did not go unnoticed from the softest towels to the homemade treat she brought us upon arrival. The pool is large and inviting- I cannot wait to plan another family trip to this beautiful oasis. I would give it 10 stars if I could.
Our group of three couples spent a week at this wonderful home. We spent most evenings and every morning sitting around the fire pit next to the ocean. The best thing about this property besides the view, the pool and the amazing house is the absolute sense of privacy.
The host, Linda is readily available, but not intrusive at all. Communication with her was a breeze.
We all agree it was probably the most amazing place we have ever stayed. Hope to return.

I am granddaughter to Del and Mary Layton, and I own and manage the property. I grew up in Miami and came to the Keys often as a child with my grandparents, spending many summers here. I remember fondly the 'long' drives down on the rough roads and the rattling draw bridges in the back seat of the Chevrolet Impala with Pat, the family dog. After marrying and having two sons, we continued coming down to see my grandparents each chance we could, bringing friends and church groups to enjoy our blessings. Mary and Del were gracious, enjoyed people and were loved by all that knew them. I hope to continue sharing the joy that the Layton House has brought to so many over the years as families and friends build lasting memories.
Why they chose this property
This property has been passed down from my grandfather, Del Layton, to his daughter, Aileen Howard and now to me. He founded this little piece of paradise in the Middle Keys after selling his grocery business in Miami in the late 1940's to follow his dream. You can read the history in his biography, Pioneer in the Florida Keys. The property is beautifully landscaped, spacious, tranquil and private. You can walk to the Long Key State Park and ride for miles on the bicycle path enjoying the views.
What makes this property unique
The historic Layton property is one of the most beautiful in the Middle Florida Keys with open water views from every angle, gorgeous changing sunsets, and swaying palm trees from the many windows in the home. My grandfather carved out this slice of paradise for the family. We are the only homes Bayside in Layton. The huge, well appointed kitchen with a large semi-circular island seating 8 is the gathering place for young and old to cook, eat and enjoy each other's company. We provide board games, numerous puzzles, cards and dominoes for inside activities. Pictures displayed around the home recall times from the past. The large circular, heated saltwater pool, surrounded with native landscaping, is a fantastic place to unwind and relax before grilling your catch and having dinner in the tiki. There are many puzzles, board games, cards and dominoes inside the house. Outside you can try your hand at croquette, corn hole and bocce ball to add to your memories at The Layton House.
