The Dakota Hogan – Custom 4-Bedroom Mountain Retreat with Panoramic Black Hills Views

Perched atop Edelweiss Mountain, The Dakota Hogan (also known as “RW Hogan”) is a one-of-a-kind, custom-built home inspired by the traditional Navajo hogan dwelling. Designed with harmony and comfort in mind, this eight-sided cabin welcomes the sunrise through its east-facing door and offers wraparound decks with breathtaking views of the Black Hills.

Inside, the Hogan is crafted entirely of rich wood, featuring hardwood floors, custom spiral staircases, and stunning Native American art and textiles from the owners’ personal collection. A central wood-burning fireplace anchors the living space, surrounded by two-story windows with handcrafted stained-glass landscapes. Relax in the spacious living room, complete with cozy seating and a hideaway bed for extra guests.

The Dakota Hogan is a beautiful home on Edelweiss Mountain that is centrally located in the Black Hills. It is a short drive to experience all the Black Hills tourist sites or just relax on one of the large decks on this property and soak in the scenery. It was large enough to comfortably accommodate our group of 8 adults and children. The home was well stocked for our needs. Thank you for the hospitality!

The house is absolutely beautiful. We only had our family of 5, but the house was easily big enough for a second family. The pictures don’t do the view any justice. The kitchen had all of the basic utensils/cookware needed to make a meal. We would absolutely stay here again!

Our initial property that we were staying at had a toilet in the basement that started overflowing with and they couldn't get it fixed right away. We found this place and the property manager was awesome and so was the property itself. Much bigger and half the price as our original property.

House has beautiful views since you are really on a mountain and met all our needs. The decks are wonderful- we sat outside every night. This is a great place if you want to be away. The drive up the mountain is about 10 minutes so it's perfect if you want to be remote but if you are looking to be in the action you might look elsewhere. Property is well maintained and was great for our large family group.

Steep Driveway

The Hogan property is beautiful with many updates to make for a great stay. The location is about 2 miles of dirt road that is, at points, very steep and can be treacherous for motorcycles. I would recommend parking bikes at the bottom of the hill at the host facilities an then driving to the property in other vehicle. Julia is amazing! A fantastic host and a warm and welcoming individual who communicates timely and effectively. Great working with her. I will work with her again on our next fellowship weekend. Don

Covid Family social distancing vacation

This rental was better than any of the pictures! One of the most peaceful beautiful spots in the Black Hills and very easy to access! We had 6 adults and 2 kids and plenty of room for more. The only thing lacking was more time to spend there!

Family Getaway

Our family had a wonderful week away from the cares of this crazy year! My wife and I, plus our adult children and their spouses all enjoyed our time at the cabin and in the surrounding Black Hills. There was plenty of space, so there was room to spread out, and yet great spaces to come together. The views are amazing. We had fantastic views of the comet Neowise, and even used the telescope from the covered porch. The area is very quiet as it's a bit remote, yet we could get to most all parts of the Black Hills quickly. The kitchen is large and well equipped for all of our meals there. Highly recommend this spacious cabin!

This property and others that we manage on Edelweiss Mountain are in a secluded area which gives you a chance to unwind from a day of sight seeing. The quite area will allow you to see wildlife and see the stars above at night. We love living here.This cabin is owned by residents of South Dakota who love the Black Hills. We expect that anyone renting our cabin will treat it with care as well as respect the furnishings in the home. We are very respectful members of the Edelweiss Mountain homeowners association. We only want renters who will also hold high regard for the beauty and serenity of our hidden little community.
We invite you to spend your next vacation at our cabin. Whether it's for a week or a few days . Our cabin offers some of the most breathtaking scenery and relaxing atmosphere found anywhere.

Edelweiss Mountain is a gated community assuring you of privacy . Licensed by the South Dakota Department of Health.
There is 3 miles of gravel to this home. There is room for a small trailer.

Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic extra precautions in cleaning have been priority for us. We are following all Department of Health guidelines.
