Newly Renovated Home

Originally designed by international award-winning architect, Joseph Esherick is newly renovated, top-to-bottom by architectural designer extraordinaire, Stephen Barlow and owner, Jennifer Carolyn King.

Perhaps you've heard of Sea Ranch just north of San Francisco? Joseph Esherick was responsible for designing Sea Ranch and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Meticulous effort has gone into honoring Esherick's original design while updating every inch of the home, inside and out. Stephen Barlow was the lead architect on Casa al Mare. Mr. Barlow worked for fifteen years as the lead architect for world-renowned interior designer, John Saladino. This is Jennifer and Stephen's second creation together.

(The first is an Africa-inspired home in Kennebunkport, Maine called Asante Sana - also available on VRBO.) Jennifer brings her unique "rugged elegant" design to the interior of both of her homes.

THE RETREAT : SF is modern Rugged Elegance at its best. Barlow and King have honored California architect, Joseph Esherick while combining Italian and Portuguese marble, windows made in Italy, and Wabi Sabi design elements such a Tadelakt plaster, leather treads, handrails and doors.
