About this property
Lovely hideout next door to Doe Bay Resort on Washington's Orcas Island
Nestled in the quiet community of Doe Bay lies a charming craftsman 2bd, 2ba cottage you can effortlessly retreat into. The tasteful updating is done with propane fireplace, new king sized REM bed with adjustable base in the master bedroom, one side of the bed has a softer mattress while the other side is firm-take your pick. All brand new living room furniture, tasteful decorating , cozy dining area with bench seats and surround windows and the spacious master bedroom has vaulted ceilings displaying vintage SE Asian oars. Andrew Gath design of Seattle helped us with the interior, it is warm. comfortable and classic. Enjoy dining or morning coffee on the New large south facing deck with beautiful water views. High speed internet and Rocu Direct TV in both bedrooms. Wake up to a sunrise over the Salish Sea. Your Island home is part of a small close knit "homestead" community-originally a fishing camp at the turn of the century. Their are 3 full time neighbors and 3 ocassional weekenders-thus are home is more of place to go to savor the peace of the Islands. If having a good ole fashioned whoopee party on the deck until midnight is your idea of a vacation (and who doesn't like that occasionally) than this location is probably not for you. Sound carries and this home has neighbors. I have mult bird feeders around the yard and when one gets quite and still, birds of all sorts will fly right up to you, along with our resident Doug Fir squirrels, Island deer and raccoon although we ask that you not feed the deer or raccoons. River Otters frequently swim by the house! We now ALLOW one small fur baby by prior permission . The dog is not allowed in the backyard garden and is not allowed to run freely in the neighborhood. The dog is not allowed on the furniture (unless it’s on the deck) or bed. Strongly recommend getting the extra insurance when bringing a dog.

Great getaway if you want some quiet time. Loved looking out for porpoises and whales. The house was a good fit for 4 people and had a perfectly stocked kitchen. Happy we got to see Orcas Island!
My wife and I were looking for a great getaway in the San Juan Islands and this was the right pick. Pictures are accurate, waking up to the sunrise on the bay was rejuvenating. We found a few strawberries in the garden that were peak flavor and I had to marvel at how great the location is. The house is cozy, has a nice aesthetic and you can feel how deliberately the hosts care for it.
Our family of 4 stayed three nights, and wished we could have stayed longer- the house was beautiful and had everything we needed (including family games and comfy beds!), and we loved the deck with water views and heat lamps for at night.
Was a wonderful place to stay. Quiet, serene and calm surroundings. We had a wonderful stay with easy access to hiking, dining, and touring. Definitely would go back
Beautiful house in idyllic spot. Hosts were wonderfully friendly and proactive in communication, made sure we had everything we needed. Beds very comfortable, house immaculate. Great outdoor deck with grill, comfy chairs and heaters. Will definitely be back next summer
Our family loved this private, quiet escape with a smashing view! Beds were incredibly comfortable. Porch facing the water is a perfect lounge with heaters & comfy couches. We enjiyed just watching the water each day.
My family and I loved staying in this location. It was tucked away from everything, but had easy access to all the great parts of the island. The house was very well equipped and very well planned out. We can’t wait to come back and visit again soon!!!
This house is the cutest! Our family loved staying here for a nearby wedding. The kitchen was well equipped, the beds so comfy and the view stunning. We wanted to move in for the rest of the summer!

Peace & quiet was here. Clean, comfortable, lovely view. I'd book again if we ever visit the island again. Thank you for sharing your home.

quiet with a lot of wildlife
Nice place to stay very secluded and quiet. close enough to town that everything is in reach. Very nice furnishings and very accommodating. My 4 year old had smores for the first time in the back yard fire pit and loved his special chocolate sandwich.
Rob and Kim were great hosts and shared their beautiful home in Doe Bay with our family. It was the perfect location for us to gather as we spent time with local family and enjoyed the wonders of Orcas island. The views and gardens are wonderful at this happy place.
Wonderful place to stay and explore the Island!
Stayed with son and his family. We lived on the deck, from coffee in the morning to wine and dinner in the evenings. Host was very accommodating! House was very clean and so very comfortable! We didn’t want to leave! Thank you Rob and Kim!
This is a lovely home with a beautiful view. The owner was easy to reach and helpful. The outside lounge area is fabulous and heated/covered so can use anytime. It is very peaceful on this side of the island but a bit farther from town if you want easy access to restaurants and groceries. We had a very relaxing getaway.
We had a lovely stay in Doe Bay. Rob was a fantastic host, communicated diligently, and ensured that we had everything we needed. Orca's has some incredible restaurants, hiking, kayaking, and views. It's an easy place to get around and it was an ideal time of year to visit.
The location is fairly remote, which was exactly what we wanted. Night bring many deer onto the road so it was necessary to go slow and be very cautious driving to and from the house.
We stayed here 4 nights. I wish we had longer! The house has everything you need. The beds and furnishings are comfortable, nice kitchen with everything you need, surrounded by trees, birds, flowers, and the beautiful Doe Bay! We started and ended each day on the lovely patio - a definite happy place! Thank you Rob and Kim.
Beautiful views, peaceful surrounding, and well-appointed house
This was a wonderful experience. Our family enjoyed coffee and talks on the large deck, a well-appointed kitchen with everything we needed, lunch (fried halibut, fries, and cherries) at the local Buck Bay Restaurant, boating tour, and a 1000 piece puzzle at the house. We also had cool nights, great weather, and a fun hammock to boot. The hosts are outstanding; a lot like family.

About the host
Hosted by Kim and Robert
Kim was a K-1 teacher and Rob was an RN, we both love adventure, traveling the world, great food, gardening, mountains and the ocean. We have lived in Australia teaching and nursing, biked across Cambodia into Vietnam and hiked the jungles of Costa Rica and Mexico. Traveling the Inside passage on our Aspen C100 power catamaran is on our bucket list.
Why they chose this property
It's always been our dream to own a home in the San Juan Islands. This little cottage has history, was built in the mid 40's, has a Native American burial ground near our backyard. We’re right next door to Doe Bay resort and Spa. They have open 🎤 mic every Thursday along with farm to table organic dinner and breakfast.
What makes this property unique
View View View The front of our home is lined with BIG windows show casing the Salish Sea, neighboring Islands, Ferry traffic, Rosario Straight and the never ending wildlife. Orcas Is is listed as one of the 100 places to see before you die book. Orcas swim right next to the rocks right in front of the house!!! and a family of River Otter live near by. Moran St Park hiking and Mt Biking is a 1/2 mile walk from our home. We love being next door to Doe Bay resort with their little grocery store, restaurant, Spa and music in the summer months. Kayak rentals is a 5 min walk from our home. Whale watching tours leave daily from Orcas Island, and the Orcas have been seen right in front of our home on many occasions as are the resident river otters and the occasional Grey whale. This home is so cozy, the contractors spared no expense and are gifted in detailing wood trim, island Fir counter tops, lighting, rugged dark wood plank flooring and the beach vibe shiplap ceilings were repurposed from a shipping crate. The cathedral ceilings in the master bedroom are the perfect backdrop to our SouthEast Asian antique oar collection. Walking into this home has a very calming affect that exudes warmth. My bird feeders are always full and attract local and migratory birds of all sizes. I have quality binoculars and a spotting scope on tripod to bring all creatures in close, along with laminated ID cards that describes what your looking at.
