About this property

Waterfront 3 Bedroom, 1 Acre Garden And Orchard

Believed to have been be built in the 1700's, Spindrift is a rambling waterside property nestled into its gardens and orchard/field behind the house.
There are two light filled double bedrooms available upstairs, both with water views. One has a
King sized 5ft wide bed complete with a Royal blue tall velvet headboard and the other has a Super King 6ft wide bed. All the beds have new and very high quality mattresses. All bed linen and towels are of a similar quality. Upstairs there are is a modern and light filled tiled shower room with toilet.
Downstairs there is a lovely slate floored sitting room and dining room all with different river views. There is a large open fire. The side house entrance opens onto the utility room and downstairs cloakroom with toilet. The kitchen has triple aspect windows mainly to the water and it is fully equipped with everything a cook might need, including a large range cooker.
All floors downstairs are black riven slate.
There is TV and wireless internet.
This is not really a holiday home, but our real home. What we like, you can use. We have books and art and well... stuff... It feels like a real home. It's the way we like you to stay.
Surfing and sailing are popular on this coast. We have a mooring right for a boat from the river opposite The water is tidal. You can also fish from the shore.
The front of the house is surrounded by an old low stone wall. This is a real sun trap and good to sit out on, particularly when there is a spectacular sunset.. Our gardens are approached through an arch and up some steep steps to countless lawns and beds. It's a great exploring garden. We have large tables and chairs for eating at on the level first garden, or outside the house. The views are amazing. Follow the steps up through the garden and you will come to our very secluded bluebell field. This is totally safe for kids and a great place to picnic, play games, climb trees etc. It has great views of the river.

Lovely house, beautiful surroundings, great for walking with lots of dog friendly beaches & pubs.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautifully furnished home, it had everything that we needed, including very comfortable beds! Although a car is necessary to get to the house, the local shops, and excellent places to eat, are close enough to walk to. Both 'The Canteen' in Makers Heights and 'The Devonport Inn' in Kingsand were both excellent and well worth the walk. We'd recommend this house.

Another flawlessly serene visit!

Spindrift remains our dream house anywhere in the world. Being a home, it’s has a wonderful calming and inviting energy and it’s setting, with windows to three sides and seemingly endless water is peerless. Caz is a great host and the area is wonderful - Days spent on Cawsand beach and fresh fish at the bay followed by dinner at home on one of the raised gardens overlooking the estuary. We will be back soon! Thank you Caz and Paul.

Perfection by the Water

Our stay (2 grown ups and a 3 year old) at Spindrift was perfect. Starting with the location. The house is right on the water and its the first thing you see when you awake in the master bedroom. it overwhelms the house with a calm movement, as does the light as it progresses from daybreak to dusk. The gardens behind are magical. perfect for cocktailks, dinner and sunset whilst the kids explore in real safety. The house itself is beautifully decorated. It is clearly a home. and this makes it feel almost a priviledge to stay there. The klitchen overlooks the water which makes cooking a joy, and it has all the usual diversions such as hi-fi, tv, and wi-fi. There is lots to explore on foot (Edgecumbe, Maker, Millbrook) and amazing beaches a hop away (Cawsand, Whitsand). The owner Caz was great and very attentive to the minor requests we had for assistance. This is a dream house in a dream place and we will be returning if Caz will have us!

Loved Cornwall, and the rental was great

Our family simply loved our time in Cornwall, and we will be back! The rental was very pleasant, although a few small improvements would have made our stay even better. For the price it would have been nice to have a small welcome pack of tea/coffee/etc, however the cupboards and refrigerator were empty. There was a strange dog smell in part of the accommodation, but our noses got use to it. Also, it was nice to have contact with the host, but we hadn't expected to have so much contact. The host stopped by to collect their deliveries, and during our holiday we were asked if we could put aside a few packages. We were more than happy to help although it was our holiday, and we would have preferred to not have to do that. The pictures of the rental look amazing, and the property is every bit as good as it looks, although it is worth noting that the property does not back directly on to the water, as there is a road between the house and the water. This is not a problem, but it does go to show you that pictures can be misleading. Having said that, we loved our time in this lovely part of the country.

A wonderful stay in East Cornwall

We stayed for four nights at the house and we had a wonderful experience. We are a family of three, mum-dad and 9 year old child. The house idle very big and spacious. It has a lot of character with many ornaments, art pieces and furniture that all seem to have a story. The owners are excellent and repurposing old materials and furniture and giving them a new purpose and lease of life. You could tell that the owners love their home and have a eye for good quality and special objects/ furniture/ materials/ upholstery. If you like houses to look new and sleek and modern, like a new-built, then this might not be your style. We loved it. The house feels like it is on water- especially when the tide is in, everywhere you look, you see the water in the estuary. The light of Plymouth in the distance are lovely and even though there are some houses nearby, you do also feel like you are somewhere remote and special. The beds were very comfortable with lovely linen and soft down duvets and pillows. It felt very luxurious. There is also a huge garden at the back, with lovely views, leading into woodland. It is a wonderful place to walk or cycle from to Millbrook-the nearest village. It is quiet, with little traffic, yet feels very safe. The fact that the house is old and has character does not mean it does not have all the north amenities. A massive gas cooker, electric oven, washing machine and drier, dishwasher and an electric shower, big fridge-freezer and there are radiators everywhere, as well as a fireplace. TV is a smart one with Netflix on. The fact that this is a proper home means that if you wanted you could cook a proper, complex meal or bake food/cakes etc you could, with all the crockery and cutlery required. We just cooked simple meals of course, since we were out for most of the day and on holiday! The house is lovely- we cannot praise it enough. It is old yet feels airy, bright and light. There are many windows and you can watch the water and the nature from wherever you stand. We cannot wait to go back and we thank the owners/hosts for letting us live in their well loved house for a while. We hope to be back soon!

Beautiful home, gardens and location

We have just returned from 4 wonderful nights at Spindrift - the house itself is such a joy to explore - from the layout, beautiful artwork and personal touches. It is very well equipped, beautifully finished and the pictures don’t do it justice. The Gardens too were wonderful to explore - with plenty of peaceful nooks to read or find a peaceful spot to have some quiet time ( me!) , also lots of space to run around (for the kids and dogs!) and stunning views over the water which was always stunning whatever the tide or weather. Our host was so helpful and sweet in answering any questions and recommendations for places to visit. Highly recommend and hope to visit again soon as 4 nights just wasn’t enough! Thank you Caz for giving us the chance to make so many happy memories - and even the springer spaniel is exhausted!

Too many do’s and don’ts. Too many personal items left out. Was a terrible smell in one of bedrooms.

Great house. Great location. Too much like house sitting. Too many notes saying ‘This is broken’ & ‘Do use these things’ If it’s a holiday let then it’s not a home ?

Stunning home away from home on waterfront

We had the most incredible week at this house, every view from the windows you can see the water. The area is so beautiful with tucked away corners to explore, history to see, sandy beaches and very peaceful even in August. We brought our kayak and paddle boards and didn't have to leave the house if we didn't want to. Further into the village is a park and skate park for youngsters to go to if they want. Going to Plymouth on the foot passenger boat from Cremyll nearby was really fun. Local eateries/pubs with great food. I can't rate this place high enough, the house is gorgeous with everything you need.

Peaceful escape for a week

We had a lovely week getting to know a beautiful and new (to us) part of Cornwall, being convenient for Plymouth, and the hidden treasures around the Rame peninsula. The house was very cosy, and ideally located for exploring the local area.

A special place to stay

Happy memories of our week at Spindrift - loved the views, the light, the location, the sense of history. And the rainbow makers on a sunny day! Our family had a great time visiting the many wild coves along Whitsand Bay, exploring and blackberry-picking at Maker Heights (food at The Canteen was best we’ve had in ages) and canoeing at Kingsand and Cawsand. It’s a lovely part of the world and Spindrift is a special place to stay. Thanks to Caz.

Great location , wonderful inside and out .

Lovely cosy cottage , with a homely feel, in a great location. When the tide comes in , it feels like you are on a boat , as all you can see from most of the windows is water. Nice area for country and coast walking , and as we brought some kayaks with us ,were able to launch from in front of the house and do some paddling in the estuary. The weather wasn't the best for our stay over easter, but we still managed to get out and about to enjoy the beautiful countryside. Lola the labradoodle loved the house and enjoyed exploring the gardens. Caz was very helpful , and supplied some good info about the area. We would definitely book this cottage again in the future.

excellent facilities, excellent surroundings, so relaxing and everything was as promised. Thanks

As a family of five we struggle to find the right place where everyone can relax and enjoy the time. Spindrift was a fantastic location, we enjoyed a day in Plymouth and some lovely walks / visits to simply majestic little harbours. In truth we did not have to go far to find something for everyone. Thank you Caz for letting us share your wonderful home.

Everything was perfect

What a wonderful place. Thank you, Caz, for letting us stay in your beautiful house. Everything as perfect. We could not have asked for better weekend. The house was so much better than I could have imagined. So stylish and very comfortable. The photos don't do it justice, particularly the garden. Our greyhound loved exploring and running around like a looney! It is such a peaceful and quiet place and a nice change from city life. We did lots of walk around the area and jumped in the car to local beaches which are stunning. I cannot recommend this place enough. We all look forward to returning one day.

very tastfully furnished and comfortable house

marvelous house, extremely cosy and furnished with a lot of taste. The view from the house is exceptional: all windows have direct view on the water, which gives you the feeling of living on a (very comfortable) boat. The owner is very helpful, all contact has been very friendly. We 'll definitely go back!

About the host

Your host

Host profile image
We bought the house in 2013 and it has undergone a major renovation programme. Passionate about architecture this is probably the last in a long list of wonderful and magical places we have lived in. I hope our passion shines through... it's our home not just a holiday let. If this appeals, then you'll feel at home too.

Why they chose this property

Simply, it's the most magical house in a brilliant location. Amazing views from every window and no-one to overlook you. We are not isolated though and villages and beaches are very close with the city of Plymouth across the water by ferry or accessible by road. This is a pretty unique property.

What makes this property unique

Water views from every room and a boat mooring if you require it. The river is also good for canoeing. We have over an acre of gardens including a field awash with primroses and bluebells in the Spring. It's a great place for kids and dogs to explore. The walks are amazing and the sea and beaches are so close. Add to that the wonderful local villages with good food and larger towns close to hand and ponies to watch on Dartmoor. What's not to like?

Inside the colours have been chosen to suit the light in each room. Natural stone floors are laid throughout the ground floor, with wood floors in the bedrooms.. The sitting and dining areas are warmed by a large fire in the winter along with wonderful cast iron radiators, that are lovely to sit on. We love to cook so we think we have covered every angle in the kitchen. This room has amazing water views. A large range gas cooker gives ample cooking and we have all the usual.. dishwasher etc with washing machine and separate dryer in a utility room that leads to the downstairs toilet. Oh yes, and you can and you can sip a glass of wine and watch the sun set.
