About this property
Millie's Baywood Place - 30 day minimum
In a quiet corner of Baywood Park sits a cozy home near many prime Central Coast attractions such as, Edna Valley and Paso Robles vineyards, the ocean side cliffs and mountain vistas, and close to Montana de Oro State Park, the miniature old trees and board walk in the Elfin Forest, an Audubon overlook, San Luis Obispo, Cambria, Hearst Castle, fishing, kayaking to the sand spit or along the bay and harbor, walking the quiet neighborhood streets and the many local trails, etc. The cottage is located across the street from the Morro Bay estuary with access just a few feet away. It's a short walk to old downtown Baywood Park with its Ale House, fresh bakery, farmers market, cafes and fine dining. For shopping enthusiasts, spend a day in Cambria or San Luis Obispo, which are a short drive away and support thriving restaurants and stores. Rent this home with a sense of humor as a giant rooster sits in the front yard ready to do battle with the bronze Los Osos bear next door. Wild flowers fill the yard in the spring. It's a restful and restorative location that has served us well for many years.
After WWII, my Aunt Millie (a nurse during the war in the Pacific) moved an 800 square foot cottage down to the waterfront, pioneering the community of Baywood Park. She placed her home in the middle of sand dunes across from the estuary and had the help of my grandfather and uncle making a gem of a cottage. Aunt Millie's great nephew built the central enjoyable feature of the home - the wood deck overlooking the bay. This is the favorite feature of the home for outdoor living. It overlooks the estuary, the changing tides and comings and goings of a great many birds. During the migratory season, wake up to the cooing of the birds on the bay.

Paula and Steve are wonderful hosts. The house is a quaint little gem. It is so peaceful here with great neighbors, lovely farmer’s market, and great restaurants and even a bakery within walking distance. Fabulous writer’s retreat.
Paula’s place is quite simply perfect for my stay of one month where I worked remotely. I sat at the desk that looked out over the bay and was in work heaven. Walking around the neighborhood, on the beach, and hike a bit further away were all amazing. It’s a beautiful 1945ish property so it takes a gentle hand at times and I worried I would harm the beautiful home. Overall, a fantastic stay!
Lovely time, lovely space with lots of ambient light. Outside deck was my favorite with area for privacy or being in the open to say hello to dog walkers. Hosts were friendly and available for questions. Wonderful neighborhood. Hope to stay again.
Millie's Place is a fun, eclectic and comfortable place for a vacation. We appreciated the space of two bedrooms (using one for an office) and the sunroom was great for an afternoon read. The highlight for us was the expansive deck with views of the estuary, the wildlife, and dramatic Hollister Peak. It's an easy walk to Baywood for the Farmer's Market (wonderful!), coffee cafe, restaurants and brewery. All in all, Millie's Place is a tranquil retreat that we would happily stay at again.
My stay at Millie's Place was perfect. The house had all the amenities you could possibly need. It was clean, charming and had the best view! The foot path along the estuary (less than 50 yards from the deck) was perfect after a long day at work. Sunsets and morning breakfasts on the deck were perfect bookends to start and end my days. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a home-away-from home vacation. It is a quiet and peaceful place. I would definitely visit again.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our one-month stay here. The home was top-notch clean, and extremely well stocked with all the essentials and then some. For other digital nomads, Wifi was definitely strong enough for us both to video conference. We will miss the warmth of the sunroom, gigantic cozy bed, and endless dogs that walk their humans in front of the house. Paula and Steve are great hosts, and we absolutely would return again if our nomadic lifestyle brings us back to Los Osos.

Thank you for your wonderful review and we hope you are in the area again. We wish you safe and adventurous travels! We very much enjoyed meeting you.
This little cottage feels much more spacious than square footage would indicate. It’s bright and cheery and meticulously maintained. The location is ideal with beautiful shoreline walks right out the front door, coffee (Nautical Bean) and awesome sandwiches (High St Deli) as well as Thai and Mexican food a 10 minute walk away. Don’t miss the farmer’s market on Monday afternoons. Drive to beautiful walks in Elfin Forest, Sweet Springs Reserve or Montana de Oro bluffs. But beware Los Osos “rush hour” traffic; you might have to wait for 3 cars at an intersection! Our stay made lasting memories.
Millie’s place is a slice of heaven. We enjoyed watching the tide go in and out of the estuary. It was like experiencing the earth breathe. Rainbows on the water after the rain. The dog walkers daily on their way to the Audubon lookout and the complete absence of streetlights that make stargazing from the deck on clear nights possible. Comfortable well-stocked vintage cottage. Staying here has been restorative. Paula and Steve are wonderful hosts. We look forward to returning.
We thoroughly enjoyed our month at Millie's Place. It was an ideal spot for us to combine remote work and explorations of the area. Paula and Steve were great hosts, and were always available to answer questions- plus they left clear instructions inside for pretty much everything. The house was well-stocked and very comfortable--the hosts purposely had furniture that was light enough for guests to move around as desired. We appreciated having outdoor spaces in the front and the back- with beautiful low-maintenance plants- but probably spent more time in the sunroom. We enjoyed getting to know the town of Los Osos- and how nice to be walking distance from a bakery, coffee shop and beer garden. All in all, a great experience.

You were the perfect guests with our shared interests in getting out to enjoy all the special things about the Central Coast. We hope Millie’s Place will generate great memories.
Steve and Paula are great hosts and we enjoyed our time in Los Osos very much. So nice to have the office set up looking at the beautiful bay view and an overall relaxing trip.
The perfect place to stay in such a delightfull neighbourhood. A A very comfortable home and so well equiped with way more utensils, dishes etc. than you will ever need. Just bring your clothes and toiletries and that will be all you need for a very satisfactory stay.
Over the last eleven years we’ve arranged medium- and long-term rentals for twelve Homeaway/VRBO accommodations. Our seven-week rental of “Millie’s Place” in Los Osos was very special in every way: view out front windows; light streaming in from every window; comfort and roominess; furnishings and art; kitchen fully supplied with cookware and staples like no other rental we’ve ever had; linens and towels the same; wifi without a hiccup. The location on the estuary is very special as well, and close-by there is convenient shopping, a bakery beyond compare, a weekly farmer’s market, and several cafes and restaurants. The surrounding area is extraordinary for walks, hikes, bird watching, drives along the coast, through valleys, over mountains. Natural beauties nearby include reserves, rookeries, and state parks, especially the beautiful and varied Montana de Oro State Park. All this with lively coastal towns north and south and inland San Luis Obispo, Atascadero, and Paso Robles for “urban” visits not far away. Central California at its most attractive. Something which made our stay more than just a lovely place and area was that all of our exchanges and times with Paula and Steve Koch were as pleasant as any could be. They so understanding and thoughtful, too, to accommodate us because of a necessary change of plans of ours due to Covid. It was a wonderful experience in all ways!
We stayed here for 6 weeks in late fall. We enjoyed the location of Baywood and walked several times to the local areas (Elfin forest, Sweet Springs, farmers market, beach walk to village, etc.) many times. This area is also convenient for bicycle riding to Morro Bay or Cayucos or hiking in Montana de Oro.
The space was clean and comfortable. Though we didn't spend much time on the deck (due to cool weather) we enjoyed watching the bay fill and empty with the daily tides from the bedroom and living room windows. Lots of birds to see from the deck or the nearby Audubon bird viewing deck.
Little contact with the owners since everything went smoothly. Paula gave a good tour of the space when we arrived and plenty of information was available in binders covering both the property and surrounding area attractions.
We are already planning a return for next year.
What a wonderful home away from home! Millie’s Place is beautifully and comfortably furnished, the location is quiet, and the views of the bay are stunning. The two comfy rocking chairs on the deck are a perfect spot for morning coffee or a glass of wine at sunset.
The kitchen has everything you need to inspire the chef in you. And yes, a very comfy bed in the master bedroom which is always important to us.
The owners are very responsive and easy to work with! We look forward to coming back next spring.

About the host
Hosted by Steve and Paula
With our professional lives behind us, we have time to enjoy the outdoors and love this area. We are California natives and have spent our lives in Southern California. Steve was in graphics and marketing and I was a physical therapist for 40+ years. When enjoying our home we spend much of our time on the deck, walking, reading and watching the birds.
Why they chose this property
This property was created by my Aunt Millie after she returned from WWII as a nurse. It has been in the family ever since. When she first bought the property it was rolling sand dunes. Now the area is developed into a peaceful community by the bay. Over the years, many family members have lived here and enjoyed the beauty around them.
What makes this property unique
The peacefulness and beauty of the area keep us coming back. We like the ever-changing character of the back bay as the tide comes in and out. The varying flocks of birds that change through the seasons is delightful and waking up the sounds of the birds is lovely. Stepping off the deck is a short walk to an Audubon overlook, bakery, restaurants and brew house. We especially love the farmer's market on Monday afternoons 2 blocks away. This home has been set up as a one bedroom house with an office (desk supplied) in the adjacent room.
