About this property
Cozy Lakefront Home on Beautiful Crystal Lake, Minutes from Elk Mountain
Relax and enjoy our quaint, retro 1400 SqFt, 3-bedroom lakefront home with beautiful views of one of Pennsylvania’s most pristine lakes, visible from the front porch or through the large picture window in the living room.
Nestled in the rolling Endless Mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania, Crystal Lake is a private, 45 acre, spring-fed lake located minutes from Elk Mountain Ski Resort. Our one-story home includes an eat-in kitchen, a dining area and a cozy living room with a fireplace that looks out over the lake.
The master bedroom has a king size bed, the second bedroom has a double bed plus twin bunk, and the third has two twins – sleeps 8. Crystal Lake is a private (not open for public use) family-friendly lake located just over 2 hours from both Philadelphia and New York City.
In the summer, you can enjoy swimming in the crystal clear water, sunbathing, fishing, kayaking, sailing, paddle boarding & canoeing. You may prefer just relaxing on the lakefront dock and front porch, or taking a leisurely walk, run or bike ride along the scenic 2.8-mile road that follows the perimeter of the lake.
For something more challenging, you can mountain bike or hike Elk Mountain, or bike the 40+ miles of Rail-Trails that run throughout the region. For the golf enthusiast, there are five public golf courses within 6 miles, including the nearby Scottish Glen, a 9-hole course situated on the lake with beautiful views of Elk Mountain. Many of the area courses cost less than $20 for 18 holes of golf.
While the charm and quiet of Crystal Lake is the draw, there are many other activities in the area. There are dozens of antique stores, particularly in the Fleetville area. One of the largest and most well known is The Carriage Barn, which has been featured in Country Living Magazine. Shopping is plentiful in Dickson City just 25 minutes away (20 miles). Here you'll find Veiwmont Mall, anchored by Macy’s, JC Penny’s and Sears, and many discount stores, such as, Target, Wal-mart, Sam’s, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, K-mart, Best Buy and Wegman’s. You will also find many popular chain restaurants in this area, such as, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Pizzeria Uno, Friday’s and more. There are movie theaters and bowling alleys as well. In nearby Scranton, the Steamtown Mall (23 miles) and the new upscale outlet mall, Shoppes at Montage (29 miles), are also great for shopping.
For outdoor enthusiasts, there are the NEPA Rail-Trails with many trails for biking and hiking plus events to participate in throughout the year. There are 3 local spots where you can park and get to the trail head. The main one is located in Uniondale where you will find the Rail-Trail office and Cable’s General Store... great place to relax, pick up some provisions and enjoy some great food! Ambitious hikers can hike up Elk Mountain... there are beautiful views at the top!! Afterwards, you can stop at Chet’s Place...
Local restaurants on the lake and within a mile include Oliveri’s and Crystal Pines. Many others are located nearby in Carbondale, Simpson, Union Dale, Clarks Summit and Dickson City all within a short 5 to 25 minute drive. Looking for Breweries... there are a number of them to check out within 20-30 minutes drive including in the charming town of Honesdale.
Other attractions include, Montage Mountain Water Park, the Lackawanna Coal Mine Tour, Scranton Iron Furnaces, Steamtown National Historic Site, the Houdini Museum, Scranton Cultural Center, Electric Car Trolley Station & Museum, Anthracite Heritage Museum, Lackawanna State Park and the Archibald Pothole State Park. PNC field in Scranton is home to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees, the Class-AAA Minor League Baseball affiliate of the New York Yankees.
In the fall, you will enjoy the colorful foliage and quiet peacefulness of the lake. There are also a number of local events including Oktoberfest at Elk Mountain and the Steamtown Marathon.
The main draw in winter is skiing and snowboarding at Elk Mountain, Pennsylvania’s finest ski resort with 1000 feet of vertical drop and 100% snowmaking coverage. Montage Mountain, which also features snowtubing is located nearby (30 miles) just off Route 81. The lake and surrounding area are great for ice-skating, cross-country skiing, sledding and ice fishing. The nearby Rail-Trails are also great for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. NEP Sno Trails grooms the trail system in the winter and issues trail passes that are required for snowmobiling.

This home is an amazing picture of vintage stocked with anything a person would need. Breathtaking view of Crystal Lake. Outstanding communication with the owner. This is our second time renting here and we will be back! Thank you, Kate:)
It’s great for the soul! The only problem was that we couldn’t stay longer. It makes you long for summer days with all the nostalgic feels. Kate was very responsive, helpful and informative.

Thanks so much Erin,
It was awesome to have you & Sean! Love that you love the classic 60’s lake house. Hope to see you again! :-) Kate
We were in the area to visit family nearby. This house was exactly what we needed as our home base and its “authentic retro” design was so cute. It was extremely easy to communicate with the home owner and the house was very clean. Crystal Lake is beautiful.
Very clean, fully stocked, beautiful view of the lake. Kate was the perfect host providing every detail a visitor could want. Would highly recommend if vintage is your thing.
Enjoyed a relaxing long weekend at this vintage bungalow on a quite private road. Nice large front porch to enjoy the beautiful views.
Kate, the host, was very responsive to my inquiries and provided a lot of information on outdoor activities and restaurants nearby.
It was a great weekend and a great location and house. The only thing is there wasn’t really any indication that there were neighbors very close, otherwise awesome place.
An older home but very clean and had everything we needed. Spent many hours on the front porch overlooking the beautiful lake. Very nice neighborhood even though the houses are close together.
The house was clean and cozy. It was an ideal location…a step back in time (plus WiFi!). The lake was beautiful and we really enjoyed taking our kayaks and paddle boards out each day! Manning’s ice cream was a special treat. The view from the front porch was spectacular! We will definitely be back!
A beautiful little cabin right on the lake. Plenty of amenities (full kitchen, cookware and dishes, cable, DVD, Chromecast, fireplace) and a really pleasant, breezy atmosphere. I guess it could get louder the more people you bring with you but, for a couple, it's a wonderfully quiet and peaceful spot to stir up some romance.
We both thoroughly enjoyed the house!

Thanks for the review Fred. So thrilled you and your wife had such a great time enjoying our home and our quiet little spot on the lake!
Warmly,
Kate
From the moment we arrived we felt like we stepped back in time. This beautiful home is clean, quiet and feels like the slower days of our childhood. Kate was a great host and we loved the peaceful setting. This is the perfect place to relax and rewind!
nothing to do partly due to it rained the whole time we were there
because of the rain we had to stay indoors. The livingroom furniture was so broken down that you couldn't even sit on any of it,because when you did your butt hit the wooden struture and someboody had to pull you up..The kitchen was well stocked, but it needs a new stove top.bad..If those problems are replaced it would be a really nice place to stay. Now for the outside. The lake is beautiful but as far as fishing their were trees in the way so you couldn't cast your rod,and the pictures of all those nice decks don't belong to this house.very nice Richy Neighborhood and the neighbors are very friendly.
To sume up this vacatoin spot,if you are looking for a place to bring your boat and you like being on the water this is the perfect spot for you.You will most definitely love it here.

House is desperate need of repair
The paint is peeling off walls in kitchen. Every electric heat register is rusted and held together with tape. Refrigerator door is broken and held with tape. Outside trim on porch is peeling badly. Carport post is broken and sad attempt to keep it from collapsing is horrible. Couch and loveseat are broken and very hard to sit on. Was told by host I would be getting some refund and now she will not respond to my emails.save your money!!!
8 friends stayed for a long weekend and had the best time! The lake is GORGEOUS (water's warm!) and the house provides private access to it through a dock. The owner also provided several floaties, and we brought our own as well.
The house was perfect in terms of sleeping arrangements and has a nice living room with a huge window and porch to look out at the water.
The kitchen is old and the oven was broken, but we were alerted in advance and were compensated with complementary linens. The stove also wasn't working the first day (which the host did not know), but she worked with us IMMEDIATELY to get it fixed! She sent someone over to check the breaker and that solved the issue. The grill worked perfectly the whole time.
Amazing communication!
The only other issue we had was with the Chromecast and DVD player. The Chromecast works, but is very old so it constantly glitches (not the owner's fault) and would require at least 30 min to set up every time. The DVD player was missing cords, and even when we found some to hook it up, it didn't function. I'd recommend bringing an HDMI cord and laptop if you want to use the TV.
Overall, we had an amazing weekend and would highly recommend this home!
We stayed for the weekend and had a great time. The home was very cozy. Kate was very quick to answer messages. I would definitely recommend this property.
Our family loved walking to the dock and walking around the neighborhood. It was a relaxing place to stay. The renter was very responsive and helpful.

About the host
Hosted by Kate
Karolyn and I are from the Philly suburbs. My dad and his twin found Crystal Lake and our cottage in the early 60's. Seven kids and four adults spent summers enjoying the lake life and a week in the winter enjoying skiing and other winter sports!! I was fabulous!
Why they chose this property
Our family has had a home on Crystal Lake in the Endless Mountains for over 50 years....it is our "special place!" Karolyn and I knew we wanted to continue to spend summers and winters at the lake as our family expanded. One of my favorite things in sitting on the front porch in the morning enjoying a cup of coffee looking out over the view of the lake...priceless!!
