YOUR SAFETY IS OUR PRIORITY. WE FOLLOW ALL US CDC GUIDELINES and APPROVED PRODUCTS TO ASSURE YOUR SAFETY.
Dear Guests,
Know that your safety is of utmost importance to us. We look forward to seeing you during the season and wish you safe travels and great health. If you have any symptoms of COVID-19, please cancel your reservation for a 100% refund.
We have always maintained a clean, sanitized and allergy-free rental. For your safety, we continue to use CDC recommended products to kill bacteria and viruses. Sheets and towels are cleaned with Lysol sanitizer & 7th Generation laundry soap. These eliminate bacteria and viruses while using largely bio-based ingredients. All counters in the kitchen & bathroom, the toilet, bathtub & any surface you touch such as the kitchen faucet, bathroom flush, bathroom faucet, shower & tub are thoroughly sanitized with 80% alcohol products. The floors are sanitized (steam heat) & all of the cloth furniture is sprayed with bacteria & virus killers made for soft surfaces. All of our products are allergy free because they biodegrade within 15 minutes so there is no danger to you or yours.
WHAT TO DO and WHERE TO EAT:
Joe is a Captain and runs a business called Rocky Coast Cruises.
Check out his websitewww.rockycoastcruises.com to see photos and tours that he offers. Casco Bay is a beautiful area with a rich history, breathtaking scenery and abundant nature. If you stay at "Drifting In" you can choose to go on a complimentary cruise for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. If you'd like a longer cruise, it's $125/hour for the boat with a maximum of 6 people. You may bring your own food and drink because charter insurance will not allow us to provide food.
On another note, Harpswell is a perfect place for safe distancing. There are many choices for beaches; Cedar Beach, Stovers Beach, Potts Point Preserve, Mitchell Field Beach, Lands End Beach, as well as numerous trails with many along the ocean with incredible views. Information on these are left for you to peruse on your vacation.
Additionally, you can enjoy fresh seafood meals from Erica's or Holbrook's Lobster Wharf at Cundy's Harbor (both are BYOB and outdoors). The Dolphin Restaurant has take out so you can bring the food back to enjoy Al fresco meal on your large deck at "Drifting In" or eat at the many outdoor tables provided. Many of the restaurants in Brunswick (Enoteca on Maine Street is our favorite) and Freeport also have take out & eat-in or eat outside options. Our favorite in Freeport is the Tuscan Brick oven Bistro. Harpswell has a new restaurant by our only light in town, the Schoolhouse 1913. It is completely renovated and beautifully finished.
H2O Outfitters rents kayaks and gives tours via kayak. You can call them at 207-833-5257 to prearrange your choice of trip or rental. Seeing Harpswell from the water is a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
DESCRIPTION OF PROPERTY:
Nestled between Stovers Preserve Beach and Potts Point Preserve is our coastal retreat in Harpswell, Maine. We are taking reservations year-round. Are there family members visiting in Harpswell for events or holidays? Looking for a beautiful place to Winter hike or cross country ski? We're happy to accommodate up to 4 people in comfort. Drifting In is always ready for guests.
Guests are greeted with fresh flowers, wine, local brews, local cheddar spread, Whoopie Pies and a variety of Maine-made specialties. Goodies are provided to make your own breakfast the first morning with pancake mix, eggs, butter, maple syrup and wild blueberry jam. Crisp, cool Biltmore Hotel 800 count Egyptian cotton sheets, a plethora of pillow choices, comfortable beds, waffle robes and slippers will be awaiting you when you retire. Lush towels and Beekman (clean, simple ingredients, always cruelty-free and safe) shower gel and shampoo products that will make your bathing a special treat. Air conditioning and heat are easily accessible and controlled by you with a remote to assure comfort every day of your stay.
As you will see when you travel down the peninsula that reaches far into Casco Bay, there are ocean views everywhere you look. This newly renovated 2 bedroom (1 bedroom on 1st floor and 1 bedroom in spacious loft), 1 bath home gives you a true Maine experience. You will overlook the Cribstone Bridge, a National Historic Monument, and the only of its kind in the world! Built with massive granite blocks which allow the tides to move freely through the bridge. The views of the islands and waters of Casco Bay make the trip down Harpswell Neck, with 216 miles of coastline, the memory of a lifetime. Harpswell has incredible hiking trails through pristine woods; many with sweeping ocean views.
Drifting In is located above the garage and the owners live on the property in a different building. This is a true home away from home with a full-sized kitchen with dishwasher, an island for chatting while cooking, a lovely bath/shower with a rain shower head, an enormous porch and plenty of room inside if it rains. There is a full-sized washer and dryer so you can travel back home or to your next destination with clean clothes! A short walk down our private road gives you an oceanside deck where you can read, relax, walk the rocky beach or get some cool air and sun.
Enjoy nature at its best, beautiful views and a private place to relax and call your own. As your hosts, we'll make sure that you have everything you need for your visit and we assure that the visit will be extraordinarily memorable!

The Drifting Inn was even cuter in reality than it looks in the pictures! It was also a cozy and easy place to stay for 10 days, with a full (and fully-equipped) kitchen, large private bedroom, and great loft with a second bed, desk, and cozy chairs. We loved the location, just a 7 minute walk from the beach, an easy walk, bike, or drive to a variety of lobster shacks, trail heads, and just 20 minutes from the friends we were visiting in Brunswick and Bath. Joe and Lynn were amazing hosts and gave us fun local tips that really enhanced our trip. We'd happily stay here again.

Absolutely beautiful and Joe and Lynn were very responsive. There was everything you need and more. They had cheese and crackers, a bottle of wine, fruit, coffee, creamer, and two coasters for souvenirs. It was our first stop on our road trip of Maine and was our favorite place we stayed. Will definitely be going back to stay. Thank you again for your hospitality.

About the host
Hosted by Lynn and Joe Smith

We have been life-long teachers who traveled the world working for the Department of Defense Education Activity. We've lived in many countries to include Bermuda, Iceland, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Germany (Heidelberg, Stuttgart, Wiesbaden) and Abu Dhabi. We lived on our 42 foot trawler for 7 years. We continue our boating traditions in Maine. Joe is a US Coast Guard certified charter captain and he takes people out on tours. Any of our guests who have booked 4 or more days at Drifting In, get a free 1-1.5 hour cruise aboard our 27' Albin trawler. We'll arrange dates when you arrive based on weather and schedules. We are now happily back in Maine as retirees to be closer to our families. We love meeting new people and invite you to see what Harpswell offers for you and yours.
Why they chose this property
We bought our home because we wanted to live by the ocean in a town that had a vital boating and fishing community spirit. Harpswell is that town. This is a fishing community that encompasses active lobster, scallop, clam, mussel and seaweed fishing and farming. The many nooks and crannies along the towns 220 mile coastline provide a variety of small communities with their own special flavor. We love the view, the people and the incredible sense of community in Harpswell.
What makes this property unique
If you love the ocean and the freshest seafood, you cannot beat this area. The seafood is literally taken right from the water to the table. Our lodging is a newly renovated to retain the rustic charm of the original, but updated with new granite counters, bathroom and kitchen fixtures and all new lights. The expansive porch provides cool breezes and lovely views of Harpswell Sound. There are countless hiking and walking trails nearby as part of the Harpswell Heritage Land Trust that highlight the pristine beauty of Harpswell.
Since the 220 miles of Harpswell coastline is the very best way to appreciate the full beauty of Harpswell, we offer our guests who book 4 or more days a free 1 to 1.5 hour boat ride on our 27' Albin trawler, La Bella Vita, that can be customized to fit your wants and needs. Since Joe received his US Coast Guard captains license, he must follow the regulations for cleanliness, so this is as safe as the apartment. Further, he is not allowed to provide food or drink of any kind. He does have a generous cooler and ice for you to use. We also provide our guests with a rolling cooler in the pantry closet. If you would like to eat or drink on your boat trip, you will have to bring your own beverages and food. We provide a cooler. This requirement is imposed by our insurance company and my dreams of providing guests with food on the charter were dashed.
