About this property

Sleeps 6 in 4 Queen Beds, former farmland, near New Bern, home of Tryon Palace.

SUMMARY
Formerly an animal and vegetable farm, this beautiful home sits on 10 acres and is only 2 miles from from hwy 55 and hwy 70 and not far from hwy 17. It has a spacious yard with back porch and wheelchair ramp. Surrounded by a mature forest, the home is still a short drive from New Bern's burgeoning downtown, quaint eateries, popular pier, and nearby attractions such as local fishing, boating, bird watching, Atlantic Beach, Emerald Isle, Fort Jackson, Camp Lejeune, and Cherry Point.

THE SPACE
The house is new, but the land was farmed by my granddad and dad (and their siblings) since the early 1900’s. There were cows, horses, goats, hogs, chickens, dogs, and of course vegetables and flowers. Farming is what helped them survive the Great Depression, raise their families, and continue up to 2013 when my father sold the last goats. It really is a special place where time seems to stop and stress falls away. I hope you enjoy your stay.

This is a newer home and completely updated from the kitchen to the closets. There are lots of windows, which make the home bright and airy and provide views of the expansive yard and field.

With 4 queen beds, everyone in your group will get the space and privacy they want for the price you want. The Master Suite has a queen bed, giant walk-in closet, and private full bathroom with garden tub and shower. The second bedroom has 2 queen beds and a walk-in closet. The third bedroom has 1 queen bed and a walk-in closet.

The house includes an eat in kitchen with breakfast bar and dining room, a large living room, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and laundry room.

This home is great for individuals, families, or groups. Children are welcome, but please note the home is not child-proofed and does not provide any baby/toddler supplies or furniture.

GUEST ACCESS
Guests can access everything, including a fully equipped kitchen and the washer and dryer. Please, clean what you use (dishes, stovetop, spills, etc.) and return everything to its place (games, remotes, keys, etc.)

OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
To stay in this home, at least one guest should be able to open the front gate by hand. It is about 20 lbs.

The interior doors are wide enough for wheelchairs and there is a ramp on the back porch.

This is a non-smoking house.

Pets and farm animals formerly lived on this property.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD
I love this little area because it is a safe, quiet, close-knit community. All of the neighbors know each other and are very friendly, but there is so much land between this house and the next, that there is lots of privacy. The house is tucked away, surrounded by mature trees and forest, but still less than 2 miles from highway 55 and highway 70 and not far from highway 17. You'll never have your roads blocked off for marathons and festivals, but you'll still be able to enjoy all the downtown activity.

You'll be about 10 minutes from anything in New Bern. With quick and easy highway access, downtown is almost a straight shot from any nearby road.

About the host

Hosted by Gayle Wiley

Host profile image
I am a Registered Nurse and my sister Caral is in Government Security in Washington DC. We are co-hosts for our family home in New Bern, NC. It is our private get-away for peace and quiet. We both love to visit the home! I love listening to music (especially Jazz), making Jewelry, carpentry, and going to movies with my husband. My life motto is to treat others as I want to be treated.

Why they chose this property

This is my father’s humble home! The house is newer, but the land was farmed by my granddad and dad (and their siblings) since the early 1900’s. There were cows, horses, goats, hogs, chickens, dogs, and of course vegetables and flowers. Farming is what helped them survive the Great Depression, raise their families, and continue up to 2013 when my father sold the last goats. It really is a special place where time seems to stop and stress falls away.

The house is close to nearby beaches, so I grew up fishing and crabbing locally. There are also Neuse River cruises, nice restaurants, bird watching, hiking, and so on close by, but not so close as to ruin the scenic farm-life appeal of my father's home.

What makes this property unique

You'll love having a coffee on the back porch, listening to early morning birds, and watching rabbits hop through the yard looking for food.
