About this property
WTR Stables Barn Loft @wtrstablesloft
Enjoy self check-in, and a no contact stay at the Loft! As always the loft is sparkling clean! Every precaution has been taken to ensure a healthy and safe stay. NEW FOALS have arrived! Single night stays accepted Sunday thru Thursday only. A unique opportunity to stay on a working Virginia Certified Thoroughbred horse farm where we breed, raise, and race Thoroughbreds. The newly renovated barn loft hosts unbelievable views of the mountains and our horses out of it's large picture window. Peace and serenity are limitless here on our farm. The farm is less than 5 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway. 15 minutes to downtown Roanoke. 30 minutes to Smith Mt Lake. 45 minutes to Blacksburg or Lynchburg. 7 miles from exit 150 on I81.
The loft space was created so our adult children would have ample space and privacy when they visited us. It has a small refrigerator as well as a wine cooler. A microwave, toaster and a hot plate with two burners. Pots and dishes. A beautiful farm sink and of course a coffee maker that brews a carafe or a single cup. A desk for writing or computer work. A large sitting area and a 70 inch TV. Wifi access, but due to our location and barn structure it is unreliable. It also houses my art studio. I only work in the studio periodically and certainly not when we have guests. The loft space turned out so very nice that we decide to share it. We hope you experience the same peace and serenity we do here on our farm. Truly a beautiful part of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Not a day goes by that we don't count our blessings!
Please enjoy the entire loft space. The area that has the big picture window with counter and stools is in my studio. I am a sculpture who works in water based clay. Look all you like but please "don't touch" thank you! We also have horse stalls and pasture turnout available if guest are traveling with their horses for a reasonable fee. There is a hiking trail behind the barn that goes to the top of the mountain. My son-in-law runs it! I suggest keeping it to a hike! We hope you enjoy your time here!
If I available during your visit, I am happy to schedule a time to show you around and introduce you to the animals on the farm from a social distance. However, I understand the desire for privacy! You are welcome to wander but never open gates or go inside any of the pastures. Please don't feed the horses as they can nip your fingers and some of our fences are electric. OUCH! This is a working farm and you have a bird's eye view from the loft. You will undoubtedly see the day to day chores, and hear tractor and horse noises. Due to the structure and location of the loft WiFi is unreliable. The 70 inch TV host over 200 pre-loaded movies of all varieties, but no cable or internet. Peace and serenity are limitless!

We had an exceptional stay at the Barn Loft. It's such a unique stay. The place was very clean, accommodating and convenient. The property was absolutely beautiful. The host communicates well and made the experience easy and enjoyable. The horses and visiting wildlife added to the trip. We will definitely stay here again if we are in the Roanoke.. This is a stay that I would recommend if looking in the area.
This property hosts the best VRBO bed I’ve ever slept in, and the views of the horses in their paddocks and the mist on the mountains across the way weren’t bad either! What a great idea, to put a guest house in the lift over the barn! The hosts have gone out of their way to provide a comfortable, relaxing environment for travelers. The kitchenette has everything needed for preparing light meals and reheating carryout/leftovers. The bedrooms and bathroom are in a Jack and Kill configuration; there’s a shower insert, not a tub. Downtown Roanoke is just minutes away on surface streets; Blacksburg is 45 minutes SW on the interstate. All in all, a convenient, comfortable, unique place to stay if you’re in the SW VA area.
Had a great stay. Beautiful place to stay. Great view from loft. Very clean. Would stay again. John was great with communication and check in and out was very easy. Thanks John for everything.
The property is gorgeous and secluded which we loved. The inside was super clean and the bed in the master bedroom was really comfortable. Would definitely recommend if your looking for peace and tranquility.
John was an excellent host, and easy to communicate with. The Barn Loft was as described and incredibly relaxing! Very pastoral and serene setting; having a morning cup of joe while watching the horses was a great way to start the day. Very comfortable beds, good AC and supremely quiet. Easy access to the BRPW, groceries, and greater Roanoke. We will stay again, and highly recommend it to others.
The loft is located in the Virginia mountains outside of Roanoke. The views are scenic with horses, rolling hills and mountains. The loft is spacious and quiet. Ideal spot for a getaway.
We had a spectacular view from our loft window. Its location is perfect for sightseeing in any direction without having to drive far. We saw deer in the morning and evenings in the pasture by our loft. Definitely recommend staying here. Thanks to our host for our stay.
Great place to stay. Very clean, quiet loft on the top of a barn on a horse farm. Owner is very accommodating. Place is meticulous. Great location: close to hiking and mtn biking and downtown Roanoke. Highly recommend this vacation rental.
This was our second stay and still such a delightful stay. Got a nice bit of walking in enjoying all the beautiful views. 5 star dining was a close 20 minutes away. Super clean and well stocked. It was a great time and a great host!
Absolutely beautiful stay. We enjoyed watching the horses and were even visited by a few deer. The view is amazing and the loft is charming! The beds were comfortable and we loved sitting down on the porch with coffee in the morning and a cocktail at night. Highly recommend if you love the peace and quiet of nature. John was responsive to our texts but we didn’t need anything that he hadn’t already provided! If we are ever in the area again we’d love to come back!
This loft is soooo clean. It's beautiful upstairs. It was also nice to have coffee on hand! We used the laundry as this was a stop on the way to more sports and it was much needed. Beautiful rainbow with a rainstorm rolled in after we arrived. Lots of food options close! Super comfy beds.
Unique opportunity to visit a working horse farm that breeds thoroughbred racing horses. The owner John gave us a tour of the farm and explained its fascinating history. If you like horses, you’ll enjoy a stay here.
Perfect landing spot for my 16 year old and I wherein town to attend the mountain bike races. The apt was well equipped and perfect for two people. Despite the smaller kitchen, it was equipped enough that we managed to eat every meal in for an entire week! The property is also lovely and it was such a pleasure to look out the large windows and see green pastures and a couple of horses grazing every morning. The daily thunderstorms were an added bonus!
This was our second stay. Please see prior review. Absolutely the most peaceful and beautiful place. We’ve ever stayed at. Also convenient to hikes on McAtee knob only about 40 minutes away and also hikes right on the ranch just beautiful. Perfectly maintained, clean and beautiful. Beautiful views it’s a little slice of heaven on earth. And the host John was a very gracious gentleman. Thank you for allowing us to stay at your beautiful ranch.
The barn loft was one of my favorite short term rental stays ever. The space is so unique - loved greeting the horses with apples every morning. We loved watching the deer in the evening while we enjoyed a nice glass of wine. Although super quiet and peaceful, the loft is ideally situated. It's close to Roanoke as well as the hiking and canoeing locations we visited. The host lives close but we felt completely on our own and independent. The apartment was perfectly furnished. Everything was super clean, we were supplied with everything we could possibly need. The host was super nice and very responsive to our questions.
My fiancee and I really enjoyed staying here. It is convenient to the highway, restaurants, and downtown Roanoke while feeling like a little isolated peaceful retreat.
The barn loft is very nice and had all things we could possibly think to need. It is a unique and special space, and the views are sublime. The horses and other wildlife in the area really made this a standout experience. If you are an animal and nature lover, you will enjoy staying here.
John, our host, was very accommodating as well and made us feel welcome and at home. We hope to visit again sometime and stay a little longer!
