About this property

Fairytale Barn: 2/1 Hot Tub & Trout & Petting Zoo?

Have the mountain experience you just have to show on social media!

And no Fairytale mountain experience is perfect without your own petting zoo next door! The goats are ready, the bunnies are multiplying, ducklings are hatching, maybe some giant rabbits, some horses and alpacas - who knows what Connie has up her sleeve at the farm!

Our full build out of our uber unique 100 year old barn is finished well over budget, it turned out AWESOME! "A Fairytale" experience will take you back to yesteryear and the owners spared no expense in making your dream experience a reality!

Outside "Fairytale" you will find 20+ acres, manicured hiking trails, plenty of swings, two ponds, 1000+ feet of trout-stocked river frontage, perfect for fishing, and a lot of surprises around every corner, from sitting areas, PRIVATE HOT TUB, PRIVATE FIRE PIT, rock sculptures, a garden, a farm, HUGE mountain views with benches tucked along the way for the weary to rest! And why not a trampoline, zip-lines and a 4 season slip n slide?!?

Located in Sugar Grove NC, not 20 minutes to downtown Boone, Valle Crucis or Banner Elk, your location is superb to all the High Country has to offer and only 5 minutes to the Watauga River should you choose not to fish on the state stocked trout stream 50 feet from your front door and 5 minutes to horseback riding (Dutch Creek Trails) and Trash Can Falls (local swimming hole). About 30 minutes to all the major ski resorts, about 45 minutes to Grandfather Mountain and Linville Falls.

WARNING: We find guests tend to bunker in and simply enjoy their hideaway and especially the land so pay for your local excursions in advance to make yourselves leave the property for a few hours!

With two bedrooms, one bathroom (with tub and shower) and a full kitchen, you have everything you need for a one night rental, a weekend stay or a full week!

Our other rentals are VRBO# 294942, located 2 miles away with its own private petting (it's a "Top 10 VRBO listing in Boone" and two cabins on property, VRBO# 297462 and 1491834 (unit above Fairytale). We also have an Airstream and a second barn completed on property now too!

Heat, A/C, tub, upscale finishings and furnishings, this property is ready for your mountain experience.

This is the downstairs unit. The upstairs is now a rental as well, but has separate entrance sides, interior locks on both sides, decks on opposite sides, each with its own hot tub and grill, and 16" beams separating the units to try to keep noise at bay. The upstairs sleeps 2 (plus a pull-out couch), so no large groups allowed to deter from your privacy and we now only allow upstairs to have one dog under 25# :) - See Upstairs: VRBO #1491834

This is an awesome property
It’s just like all of the other reviewers posted, but we’d like to add a couple more things. Alpacas were very friendly. Goats and bunnies were domesticated and would cuddle with us when we gave them food. Saw chickens, pheasants and a peacock - first time our kids saw one in real life. The trail in the woods is fantastic, every 100 yards you would see something that the owners made, a teepee, benches, rocking chairs, a zip line, a hammock, kids playground toys and much more. The stay was exactly like it was described, hot tub was working and the place was well cleaned. We fished in the stream, saw ducks and donkeys and made a fire. Also bought eggs - $3/dozen on an honor system. Oh, we also used the trampoline, the over the river swing and had a corn hole competition. Beautiful stay, would recommend for families with kids of all ages. You can tell that the owners put a ton of effort into this property. Thank you!!

Excellent time
We had a great time staying here. It is true what they say about not going out once you get there. There are many things to do on the property. My family enjoyed staying here and will book again.

Had a great time!
We had a wonderful stay at the farm. The renovated barn where we stayed was beautiful and had everything we needed. Fully stocked kitchen. The back patio with hot tub overlooking pasture with horses and llamas was so peaceful. The farm animals were so friendly and loved attention and petting. Zip line, water slide, and relaxing on tubes in creek kept my granddaughter busy. Loved every minute!

Peaceful time outdoors
Our time here was absolutely magical. Our kids loved the slide, goats, bunnies, trampoline, and swings. We only went into town for food because the property had plenty of entertainment. The owner was extremely friendly. We will definitely be back!

When the neighbors said they would entertain selling the cabin that overlooks our existing 12+ acre property, we did not skip a beat in answering, um yes! It sits on its own beautiful tract of land that only benefits our next door acreage, sitting on the same stream and truly makes the property feel whole. Like a "rug that ties the room together," we are so happy to welcome "Fairytale" to our property!

Why they chose this property

Words cannot explain what renters find when they drive onto our property. We over-deliver. We hate giving away so many secrets, but between the swings and ponds and trails, you will hopefully discover your home away from home. Our return visitors are frequent and we want this to become your vacation home every year and as your family grows, add Little River Honeymoon Cabin next door or Mountain Magic (our most popular rental 4 years running) only 2 miles away.

What makes this property unique

This is a unique mountain experience and you will LOVE your stay. Why not add a petting zoo ... Check! Because goats are a riot and the property needs to continue to exceed expectations, even for those that return every year!
