About this property
1800's cabin with beautiful modern additions, just 1/2 mile from Crabtree Falls
Located just one half mile from The Crabtree Falls, this beautiful cabin features both an authentic antique 1800's Appalachian log cabin and all the modern conveniences of a new home. The authentic Appalachian cabin that makes up the great room of this home was relocated from Kentucky and brought it to a beautiful location here at Crabtree Falls, Nelson County, VA. It was then rebuilt on a new stone and concrete foundation, this old house never had it so good! After the log cabin was rebuilt, a modern addition was added to the back and side of the structure, carefully preserving the historic character of the old cabin while allowing more room and all the modern necessities guest need.
The original cabin features a beautiful wood-burning stone fireplace that is the focal point of the great room. The beautifully restored logs and chinking and the gorgeous poplar hardwood flooring make the original cabin warm and cozy. It also features a front porch with an awesome view of "The Priest" mountain. The downstairs bedroom has a queen-sized bed for two. Upstairs in the original cabin is a large sleeping loft that will comfortably accommodate up to an additional six people. Both the Great Room and the sleeping loft feature ceiling fans but the entire house features central heating and cooling for quiet comfort year round. Richard's Retreat has a TV with satellite as well as a DVD player for entertainment.
The modern addition features a master bedroom and two full baths, each with a tub/shower combination, toilet and vanity. The kitchen features a full sized refrigerator with ice maker, Kohler double cast iron sink, dishwasher, and gas range with conventional and microwave ovens and plenty of cabinet and countertop space. Off the master bedroom is a sun deck with a charcoal grill and there is a private back yard with a fire pit for campfires.
The furnishings are brand new but are all "antique looking" to add to the antique ambience. The beds are iron beds featuring new mattresses, box springs and linens.
This cabin is located one half mile from the popular Crabtree Falls, 20 minutes from Nelson 151 (The "Brew Ridge Trail") and Wintergreen and is surrounded by beautiful hikes and nature. There is river property for guests to enjoy the Tye River, a near-by swim-hole. The property backs up to the George Washington National Forrest. Guests are surrounded by natural beauty all throughout their stay with us.
Beth-Anne lives on site and is available to guests either in person or via phone 24/7. She is happy to help guests with recommendations, directions, or inquiries.

Why they chose this property
This property has been in our family for three generations. We spent our whole lives here making memories in these beautiful mountains. It's a joy and pleasure to share this piece of heaven with our guests.
What makes this property unique
Relaxing on the front porch in the morning with a warm cup of coffee and a blanket on your lap while listening to the Tye River run is a feeling that leaves you warm and at peace. Sitting under the stars at night by the campfire with your family or friends talking, laughing, making music and memories refills your soul. Hiking the largest vertical drop this side of the Mississippi is a feat you'll talk about for years and a view you'll never forget. Picking apples with a mountain scape background in the golden hours of a fall day and the sweet, subtle smell of the orchard is a real-life dream. The pitter-patter of the rain on the tin roof is the lullaby helps you drift off to sleep as your tucked away in the warmth of a cozy 1800's antique cabin here at The Cabins at Crabtree Falls.
