About this property

Unique combination of Space, Views, Plaza, Privacy, and Garden

Casa Junipero is shielded behind 5 large juniper trees. A flagpole in front pays tribute to its former life as a boarding school. A complete re-imagining of the interior and grounds created this 5400 square foot luxury home sleeps 14 people with up to 7 bedrooms and 5-1/2 baths, all under one roof. The rear walled garden has a landmark pine tree flanked on one side by two social areas, a fireplace by the dining table for cool nights, and cocktail seating around a fire pit. The other side of the pine has a separate private area with chaise lounges for sunning and tetherball.

Just a 4 block walk to the museums, galleries, and restaurants of the Plaza, Casa Junipero is the perfect place for a family reunion, 'girls getaway' or group retreat. Gorgeous views cover mountains, local parks, the Cathedral tower, and the Statehouse. The complete modern renovation and interior design complement the open feel of the beautiful skies and mountains while assuring privacy and comfort. The contemporary and transitional furnishings and lustrous diamond plaster walls and modern art to create a very unique environment for your Santa Fe vacation.

Oak floors, granite countertops, steel, glass, and leather furniture are found throughout the house. The Living room and Dining room are spacious and open with large windows showing the city and mountain views and sunsets. The 11-foot long granite dining table sits 10-12 comfortably. The eat-in Kitchen has plenty of granite counter workspace and quality stainless steel fixtures, including a Bosch dishwasher and oven range.

The Master Suite has a pillow top queen bed, large smart TV, walk-in glass tile rain shower, twin sinks, and separate soaking tub. It connects to the Study as well as has French doors directly to the garden. The Study/5th BR has a large smart TV, work desk, queen sleeper sofa, and a full bath with tub and shower.

The other 2 bedrooms on the main floor are isolated and share a full bath. One has two twin beds (perfect for kids or singles) and the other has a queen bed and TV and cable. The oversized Guest Suite has a queen bed, TV, Wifi, sitting area, and a full bath. The house includes a massage room (which was once the bomb shelter!), a separate billiards room, and full laundry.

The house is engineered to be as efficient and environmentally friendly as a house of this stature can be. The on-demand hot water, efficient baseboard heat, modern central Air Conditioning on the main floor, water recovery systems, 18-inch thick walls, and windows and doors show how environmental concerns can be incorporated into your comfort and everyday luxury.

The Garden provides full privacy while allowing grand views of the mountains. The patio area has a dining table seating 12 in a protected area with an outdoor wood fireplace, with a separate seating area with firepit. A separate walled area allows sunning on chaise lounges or play, depending on your whim. The horseshoe pit allows outdoor group entertainment. The large evergreen tree and outdoor sculpture accentuate the natural and creative atmosphere of Santa Fe.

In addition, there is a 1400 square foot 2-bedroom apartment, which can be made available for a larger family reunion or holiday. It has its own entrance but is easily accessible into the house. The great room has a living area with convertible queen sleeper sofa, smart TV, a dining area with table and chairs for 6, and a granite counter, stainless steel full kitchen. The two bedrooms share a full bath and each has a full size bed and garden views. The apartment also has a full laundry. Rental of this optional apartment is not available except in connection with a rental of the main house.

The house is a short walk to the Plaza and its shopping, restaurants, and galleries, so there is no need to worry about parking and getting around downtown Santa Fe. It is also near a municipal playground and swimming pool and gymnasium, as well as on the way to local spas, skiing, and the Opera.

Contacts are available for the extra help you made need to have the truly relaxing visit you are looking for. Cooking staff, cleaners, or even massage therapists will make your stay perfect.

The nightly rent for the apartment is shown as separate "property fee" in the Quote provided by Vrbo/Homeaway.

Wedding Stay

The house was ideal for my husband, myself, and my family as we united for the weekend of our daughters wedding. The large kitchen and dining area gave us a chance to cook and gather together, and even watch the beautiful fall thunderstorms. The location was perfect for our needs.

Perfect Location, Everything We Could Have Wanted

This house is so perfect I'm trying to figure out another excuse to go there. The house is blocks away from the plaza, and convenient to food shopping too. We had 11 in our reunion party and there were ample spaces for us to gather together as well as spaces to have more intimate conversations. All the beds were comfy and everything was super clean. Mark, our host was wonderful and responded to every query almost immediately. Would I recommend this to a friend? Definitely!

Property was in bad shape and was filthy

The property is well located but... - incredibly dirty - AC didn’t work well and the amount of dust in the ducts was beyond shocking - toilets didn’t flush properly and toilet seats were broke - property is in overall very bad shape - furniture and fixtures were in poor shape and were very cheap - couldn’t use the garage because some old broken down car was inside Would definitely not stay here again. It’s too bad because it’s in a great location and has a nice backyard, if it were properly taken care of and cleaned it could A nice place. Bottom line: Hands down worst VRBO home we have ever stayed in.

Everything you can hope for!

We stayed at Casa Junipero for five blissful nights. There were 12 adults--all close relatives of my dear niece who was getting married elsewhere in town. The house was a perfect place to relax between parties, hikes, shopping jaunts, museums, and, of course, unbelievably great dining experiences. We’ll especially appreciated the magic rooftop garden, where we could lounge, cook out, and watch the stars. The famous Santa Fe Fiesta rocked all weekend at the nearby Plaza, but our house was a nicely sequestered oasis in a very quiet residential neighborhhod. Inside, the house was spotless, well-equipped, and beautifully decorated in a clean, uncluttered southwestern modern style. Beds were comfortable, bathrooms plentiful, and the abundant windows offered scenic mountain views and lots of light. Our super host Mark answered all queries very promptly, offered useful practical advice, and went out of his way to make us feel like honored guests. And Mark's Santa Fe agent, Shaan, who lives nearby, was reliably on call to deal with any issues. As it turned out we had none, as our stay was perfect. I'd definitely book Casa Junipero--a fabulous find! Warren Belasco, Washington DC

Awesome location, spacious; some details lacking

Awesome location walking distance to the plaza area but on a hill with a beautiful view from the dining room. Spacious home perfect for our family gathering (pool table provided a lot of entertainment to all generations present!) Easy check-out (no tedious stripping of bedsheets or the like). However a lack of attention to details kept this from being truly great. Basic, cheap furnishings in some rooms. No coffee or sugar stocked to start our first morning after arriving late the evening before. Once we got coffee, only 7 mugs available in a home advertised to sleep 10. Wi-fi weak, only useable in rooms closest to router. No door locks for privacy on bathrooms (though one had a lock which was improperly installed, rendering it useless. This reflected the general lack of care of many fixtures placed in the home). Backyard overgrown with weeds, no landscaping. Expectation that we purchase additional propane if the 20 liter tank for the grill happens to run out during our stay (hosts should see to it that there is a full extra one on hand before every stay.) Overall the home was great for our multi-generational gathering and we enjoyed the availability of space the property offered and proximity to some of the sights. Home was well cleaned upon arrival.

Comfort and Convenience, Great House!

We just returned from 6 days (6/17-23) in Santa Fe. The plaza and restaurants are about a 10 minute walk, we never had to take our car downtown. Beautiful views, our best meal was cooked on the backyard grill and eaten at the amazing dining room table overlooking moutains and city! Our group was two families with teenagers and we had plenty of room (and bathrooms)! The property is beautifully furnished, the kitchen has everything you need, and it is all very high quality. There were a number of hotly contested pool games in the downstairs pool room and we watched movies in the entertainment room. Having the washer and dryer was very convenient, especially after our trips on the beautiful trails around Santa Fe! The owners were very helpful, and provided a lot of great recommendations. We hiked, looked at galleries, wandered museums, and ate wonderfully, both at the house and in town. Grocery stores are very close-by and there is easy access to the freeways for day trips out of town. We hiked Atalaya Mountain, saw Cliff Dwellings in Bandalier National Monument, and visited the quaint town of Chimayo. The owner recommended Santacafe for our Father's Day Brunch celebration. This was a 5 minute walk from the house and our patio table, service, and food were exceptional! Descriptions in the ad do not do this house justice! We had 9 of us total and were very comfortable. We rented only the main house, but could have had four more if we had utilized the apartment. Thanks again to the owners for sharing this home with our group. If we had a home in Santa Fe, it would be exactly like this one!

Large attractive home with lots of sleeping options and rooms

The living area of the main apartment is large and airy and adequate - big-enough kitchen adequately stocked, enough bathrooms, well placed. Good appliances in kitchen and laundry. Lots of TV sets. Two very large bedrooms with private baths. The other bedrooms were adequate with decent beds. The two sofa beds were bearable. Plenty of hot water. Decent lighting. The wide open white décor is attractive. The space was adequate for our group of 9 adults and 6 small children The main rooms do, indeed, have an open design - no unnecessary walls, no door latches on interior doors, no window coverings (except inside the windows to the back yard), extremely few noise-damping materials. Even normal conversation is well amplified. There is virtually no privacy between inside spaces, from outside, or between renters in the two apartments. The furnishings are adequate. All of the seating is either leather or wood or plaster. The custom made glass kitchen table top is unusual, with square corners and only-slightly sanded edges. The custom built kitchen-nook seating bench is unusually high. The house is perfect for tall people. All or most of the bathroom sinks are higher than the norm. The rooms are open but not with a "great-room" layout - visually, the kitchen is completely separate from the dining and living rooms. The back yard is big, with a mesh draining grate between the yard and house, two large concrete dining/sitting/play areas. The house is surrounded by a southwest desert-style yard. If one wants to be close to the square of Old Town Santa Fe, with lots of sleeping spaces, this house fits the bill.

The house is huge with lots of space for our family of 12 to all gather together, but also had separate living spaces for everyone to have their own space if they chose! The location was wonderful! In a nice quiet neighborhood but close enough that we could easily walk to town and the Plaza. There was a big outdoor area with lots of seating at the big dining table or on the outdoor sofas. There was even a firepit and a fireplace.Check in was easy and the house was very clean when we arrived. Our host Mark gave us a lot of information before our check in and made us feel very welcome.Great place to stay during our visit to Santa Fe!

Pros - this house was big, clean, and very conveniently located to downtown. It was also well equipped. We appreciated all of the kitchen supplies and things like foil and plastic wrap.Cons -There were minor disappointments like cheap hand soap that was then watered down even further and wet towels left in the washer. The owner blamed that on my request to check in an hour early (a request that received a response one way or the other). The worst and most disappointing part was the water that pooled in front of the entrance to the separate apartment. This water made it dangerous and tricky for us to bring in large suitcases, and we had children who had to navigate that. I messaged the owner multiple times, he said he would send his manager out to take. The manager never came, and a “friend” finally came two days later to check it.

Perfect for 11 person family reunion, and more

We EASILY gathered 11 adults - 5 couples and a single - with more than enough space to hang out, sleep, bathe and eat. This house is really outstanding for a large group. One dinner entailed 5 cooks in the kitchen - at the same time - and then all 11 of us fitting comfortably around the dining room table. The house is spotless. It’s clean and comfortable with all key provisions. There is also lots of parking. We easily fit 3 cars. We walked to activities. The house is 10 min walk to The Plaza. Communicating with the host was amazing. He was always responsive and friendly.

Good location, but house not worth the price!

The home has a great location, but all the adults in our group felt that the quality of the stay absolutely did not match the high rental price we paid! In the lower-level bedroom, the curtain rod was held together with duck tape & never worked, forcing us to rig up our own window covering each night. (happy to provide picture)The washing machine in the apartment did not work. The bathroom windowsill on upper floor had black mold on it. (happy to provide picture). The shower drain in another upper floor bathroom was not draining properly. Most of the bathrooms didn’t even contain 1 full roll of toilet paper, but only partial leftover rolls with no back up.Most of the bathrooms didn’t have a bathmat. The kitchen had a small plastic trash can that didn't fit the trash bags, (so every time you threw something away you had to pull the bag back up). There was no sponge provided in the kitchen. The knob on the back door was broken & pulls off.The chemical/ harsh cleaning products smell in the house was absolutely overwhelming, triggering migraines, and concern from a very pregnant guest. Some of these were small concerns (that could have been easily addressed), but not what we expected with the price we paid for the rental.

Girls’ trip to Santa Fe

The house was conveniently located just a few blocks from the main plaza in Santa Fe, and we were able to walk to most of the shops, restaurants, and museums. The house was roomy, spotlessly clean, and had a well-equipped kitchen. There are also great outdoor spaces on the property where we could sit and relax.

Why they chose this property

I rented a number of properties in Santa Fe before deciding to buy and "gut-rehab" my home. The combination of large square footage, great mountain views, gardens with privacy, and easy to walk location is ideal for my family, friends, and guests.

What makes this property unique

My large T-shape driveway allows ample parking for those driving to escape the Western heat during the summer. Guests are thrilled at close to the Plaza my home is, but still has large outdoor space and views as if you were several miles, rather than blocks from downtown.
