Serenity at the Lake is our quaint lakeside cabin, perfect for a Couples Getaway, a Family Vacation, a Fisherman's Retreat, Shawnee Hills Wine Trail, Shawnee Bluffs Canopy Tour, SIU Carbondale Family Weekend, Tunnel Hill State Trail, Mountain Bike Trails, Wedding Venue(s), Southern Illinois Hunting and Fishing Weekend and so much more!

This cabin is situated directly on the lake in a quiet "no wake" cove just minutes from the ski area and three local Marinas. Features include: Main living area with 2 bedrooms, sofa bed, 1 full bath, galley kitchen, family room with dining area, fire pit, and covered deck overlooking the beautiful majestic lake.

In addition to the main living area, we also offer a separate entertainment area, with its own private outdoor entrance. This separate entertainment area features a dining table, serving bar, mini fridge, 3 twin beds and one trundle (sleeps 4 in this area) and 1/4 bath. This area is perfect for teens or family fun and is easily accessible from the lake and dock area. Grab a cup of coffee and enjoy the nearby sun deck and the amazing lakeside views.

Lake of Egypt is great for fishing, grab your pole and fish right off the dock. The dock area has a nice swimming platform and two kayaks. Whether you bring your own boat or rent one from one of the local marinas, there is plenty of room on the side of the dock to tie it up.

If you are traveling with a boat, you may launch and park trailers at any one of the three local marinas. Mack's Lake of Egypt Marina is a short distance form our cabin. Boats, Paddle Boards and Kayaks may also be rented at Mack's.

Not only are we located on the beautiful Lake of Egypt, we are also just minutes from I-57 with lots to do all around Southern Illinois including Zip Line Tours, Canopy Tours, Hiking, Antique Shopping and many great local restaurants. We are close to the Shawnee Hills Wine Trails, Ferne Cliffe State Park, Tunnel Hill State Trails, Shawnee Bluffs Canopy Tour, Giant City State Park and Lodge, SIUC and the Shawnee National Forrest.

Property was occupied

Upon arrival, we found the property was actively occupied by a family member of the owner, and not intended for us to be there... The bed had been slept-in, personal mail and tax forms were on the table, laundry was in the dryer, someone's toothbrush and other toiletries cluttered the bathroom, dirty laundry was on floor, a full wardrobe of clothing in the closet, dishes in the sink, food in the fridge and on the counter... The list goes on. We left, in fear we were violating someone's privacy. We never received arrival information, and we (and VRBO support) were unable to contact the property owner over the course of our reservation. Very disappointed to have been left homeless during our stay in the area.

We enjoyed ourselves, but won’t stay here again due to stressful communication issues

There was an error in the schedule and two separate parties were booked for the same day. We weren’t notified of this error until less than 2 days before we were suppose to arrive. We had this property booked for 6 months prior and had paid appropriately. We were told we couldn’t stay and we proceeded to look for another place. 5+ hours pass and we were notified that it was corrected and we could stay. Luckily we were able to cancel the 2nd place we had just booked. The manager/owner is hard to reach..I had tried to get in contact with him several months prior to our stay so it was very frustrating to have this issue so close to when we were scheduled to arrive. The house had a weird musty smell but otherwise appeared clean. One of the beds was broken down stairs. The owner/manager drove by to check on us on and had said he would come by again later, which we didn’t feel was really necessary after the first check in. We enjoyed the lake and all the winery locations close by. We also visited an alpaca farm and had fun there. This location is certainly not for people who have mobility issues, which is stated in the description.

Another great stay

This was our third stay at this property. The location on the lake is perfect & water toys are great. Love that we were able to dock our rental boat at this property over night. Glen is a great host!

Wonderful opportunity to relax

We enjoyed our stay immensely. Loved the water toys including kayaks especially. Our family took time to chill on the beautiful deck, and play games. True serenity. However internet only allows one person on at a time. We had a student taking an online class and the internet was totally unsatisfactory. Also unable to watch television.

In need of a deep clean

We’ve stayed in many rentals on the lake, and this was by far the dirtiest one we’ve stayed in. The toilets were not clean. The fridge was filthy and had leftover food from other renters. The stove had grease splatter on it, and the appliances all needed to be wiped down. The forks and spoons were dirty. The ceiling fans had layers of dust, and there were cobwebs everywhere. The entire place smelled musty, and almost all of the furnishings were old and beat up. Worst of all, we saw mouse droppings everywhere and a couple of traps. I do have to say the beds, linens and towels were clean and fresh. The living room couches also seemed new. It's worth noting that the layout of the unit is odd. The downstairs area with the twin beds and the bar cannot be accessed from the main floor. You must go outside and walk down the deck steps. We found the space kind of unusable due to its inconvenience. Cleanliness aside, the unit’s location is great. The no-wake cove is nice for swimming. We enjoyed the kayaks, lilypads and paddleboard at the dock. If this unit was cleaned, had the carpet removed and had some modern updates, it'd be much better.
