About this property

PRIVATE 150FT WATERFALL RIGHT OFF DECK! Rustic, Asian inspired.

Paradise Lost! Come to one of the most unique properties in the Blue Ridge. Artisan home surrounded by 15 acres with a 150ft waterfall a few feet off the front deck. If you are looking for WIFI and TV this is NOT your vacation. Looking for down time? Looking for inspiration? Looking to reconnect with nature and disconnect from the speed of the world this IS the place for you. Open the windows and let the sound of the water heal your soul. Sit in front of an antique picture window with 20 foot writing desk and watch as the rays of the sun filter through the canopy of trees and light across the pages of your journal. From this window you will be looking down about 100 ft to the creek below and at all the amazing rock formations on the opposing bank. Or take your yoga mat on the deck and do warrior pose as the sun wakes the day. At night light a fire on the deck and listen to the night sounds as you watch the stars come out. Take a soak in the Asian tub inside the house and open the windows and listen to the falls as you let the weight of the world fade away. Everyone who comes will understand how special this place is. You can not write about special, you have to feel it. Home was previously owned by writer and playwright. From the soapstone kitchen sink to the shower room with a rock ledge for the drain every detail is unique. It is the perfect vacation for writers or romantics. The driveway is steep with turns and some loose gravel. Guest will need to have an all wheel drive or 4x4. Your option is to park inside gate and shuttle supplies up and down in a cart that is provided. Driveway is about 100 yards long roughly.

Around the area you will find yourself 3 miles from the New River and Blue Ridge Parkway. You are about 45 minutes from some of the best hiking the state has to offer at Grayson Highlands State park where you can connect to the Appalachian Trail. The New River Trail you can pick up as you enter Galax 20 min from cabin. This will connect you with miles of walking trail. West Jefferson NC is a 50 min drive and you can spend all day walking quaint shops and wonderful eateries.

A truly healing location!

We were looking for a quiet weekend getaway while attending an event in this area. This cabin and waterfall location was a much needed retreat! The host was prompt with details and answering any questions we had prior to arriving. This truly is a special place, and being able to fully unplug from everything next to this beautiful waterfall is a healing experience. Best sleep I’ve had in ages!!!

Lovely!

A great place to disconnect and reconnect. We'll be back for sure! Just be aware of the driveway-- it really is steep and even my husband's Subaru struggled to get up it. You will need a car with 4WD for sure.

A Little Piece of Heaven

The falls are so beautiful and soothing and the house so delightfully creative and charming we felt like we were in our own personal paradise for a few days. This wasn’t our first visit and won’t be our last. The host communicated with us extremely well, and we were overwhelmed with peace and joy during our time away from it all. The falls really do feel very healing.

Peaceful, relaxing, nature at it's finest.

The constant sound of the falls, produces a fantasy mind set. The unique architecture and decor of the house only adds to the fantastic dreamy state. The owner, Caroline is the perfect host, who's only concern is your time spent at the "Falls" If you are looking for a magic hide away. This is it.

Zen Paradise

I highly recommend this peaceful home overlooking a beautiful waterfall that you hear morning and night. We loved waking up and seeing the waterfall. The Japanese soaking tub offered a tranquil view of the waterfall during the day, sounds if the waterfall and candlelight at night. No wifi, no cell phones … an incredible respite from fast paced life.

Reset complete

My wife and I live in the country on a purty piece of land, but this spot is something special. The sounds and the grounds are lush but they are rivaled by the deep soak tube hanging over you private waterfall in the back yard. We will be calling on our wonderful host, Caroline, again!

Feel the falls

One of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed. Truly. This one of a kind experience will induce you to unplug and recharge your soul. That waterfall is a unique thing of beauty and the fall air’s crispness only makes the stars all the warmer. Thanks you so much for sharing such a delightful spot on earth. 150' Waterfall House

Fabulous, beyond our expectations. The waterfall is just as pictured, if not better. We had a lot of rain one day, and the water volume increased very much. WOW! It happened twice that one day. The view of the waterfall from the bed is a very nice extra.

About the host

Hosted by Caroline Carter

Host profile image
I am artist, adventurer, and NC native who has lived in all four corner of the US. I lived in Manhattan in my late teen years, and then moved to Phoenix to spend the next 3 years of my life wintering in the Southwest and summering on the Columbia River Gorge in Hood River Oregon in the Pacific Northwest. I have sailed the Atlantic in a 26 ft sailboat, taught English to Chinese high school English teachers in mainland China. I have travelled in Spain, Italy, and Hungary and now reside in Garner NC with my husband and 2 children ages 11 and 13. I am currently a worker bee in the Stone Supply industry after being out of the business for over 15 years. My passions include getting people of all ages back to the woods and away from electronics. It is such a disease that we can not disconnect from electronics and reconnect with nature. This disconnect without distractions is what grounds us and points us to self discovery. When we are fully aware we are better people to not only ourselves but to those around us. In my personal life shutting out distractions and focusing on the Divine is where I truly grow. I am currently giving thanks for all things both good and bad in my life and learning where the lesson was to be found. It is my pleasure to be able to open my house to you. Come and experience what words can not describe. I look forward to sharing my special space with you.

Why they chose this property

My husband and I own property in Ashe County NC. We love the area as we have been taking our 2 children to Grayson Highlands State Park in VA camping since they were 2 years old. After my father passed suddenly from complications of T-Cell Lymphoma I felt the call to purchase more land in the area. My goal was to have a place to get children of all ages away from electronics and back to nature. Having lost out on 2 large land purchases due to reasons beyond my control I was forced to look outside of Ashe County as it was not offering me anything new. The first day of searching and a couple of clicks landed me on 5220 Peach Bottom in Independence VA. I live in Raleigh NC and at 9:30 AM the following day I called out from work and was entering the property. I made an offer 2 hours later and the rest is history. It was truly meant to be mine. Both my father and the previous owner died of cancer a few months apart. Both of them were very special people who were born the same year 1947. The prior owner was a writer and playwright while my father was a voracious reader. You will definitely feel the peace and inspiration flow into you as you settle into a chair on the deck.

What makes this property unique

I fell in love with the property the minute I saw it for sale. The rustic nature of it's setting, the attention to detail in it's artistry. It lends itself perfectly into it's surroundings taking care to not overpower the landscape. From the moment I drove up to the cattle gate and saw the jack fence and lush green surroundings I felt as though I was entering a beautiful state park. As I crossed the stone bridge to get to the front porch I admired how perfectly everything was placed in relationship to the waterfall. I knew the property was for me the minute I saw the hammered bronze oversized door knob. Sometimes pictures on line can make a mediocre place look good. Sometimes they can hint to a super amazing place without giving away it's essence. The sound of the falls and the structure together unite in such a way that EVERYONE who goes there will feel as though they have been a part of something special. I know that the minute I leave my heart is calling me back to the sound of the Falls.
