About this property
In the very HEART of old town, a serene and sophisticated Provençal appartement
L'Isle sur la Sorgue is a story-book, open-hearted village in the heart of sunny Provence. Lovingly called 'The Venice of Provence', with five pristine canal waterways, filled with ducks, geese, and swans, flowing throughout the village. L'Isle sur la Sorgue has many ancient water wheels, secret gardens, and a lively bi-weekly outdoor market. The weekly antique market is an astonishing stroll, especially with a pastry in hand, from one of the half-dozen nearby bakeries.
Our spacious, air-conditioned apartment is located on the first floor of a building constructed in the year 1700, and a few steps away from a 12th Century church. Several of the church's fifteen sublime gargoyles face our living room and bedroom windows. We call our apartment 'Coeur de l'Arquet', honoring the Arquet canal, which flows between our apartment and the Notre Dame des Anges Church, which is home to 222 angels.
'Coeur de l'Arquet' apartment has soaring ceilings, a sophisticated and charming Provencal ambiance, a newly installed state-of-the-art kitchen, a resort-quality luxurious bathroom, and a serene bedroom dedicated to sweet dreams.
***A SECOND BED, A LUXURIOUS QUEEN INFLATABLE, IS AVAILABLE FOR ANOTHER COUPLE, OR CHILDREN, FOR THE SPACIOUS LIVING ROOM***.
Within the intimate center of our village, are exuberant wine, cheese, pastry shops, galleries, museums, cozy restaurants and playful bars. The best is Florian Courreau's 3rd generation hand-made chocolatier, called La Cour aux Saveurs, blocks away. Close by are 300 showrooms featuring authentic period antiques and fine art.
A few blocks away are alluring and extensive hiking trails and also kayaking destinations, and also a bus stop, taking you to numerous iconic nearby villages and markets, including Fontaine de Vaucluse, Carpentras, and Roussillon. We also have a train station, opening opportunities to visit enchanting Avignon, the Cote d' Azur, Paris, Spain, or Italy.
Minimum reservation two nights. So many hand-crafted cheeses, pastries, antiques, and chocolates, so little time. Long-term rental available.

About the host
Hosted by Charles Simmons
We, Marla and Charles are world travelers, based in Tucson, Arizona and leading cultural immersion pilgrimages to Himalaya Bhutan and Latin America. We have been to Provence numerous times, and fell in love with the precious village of L'Isle sur la Sorgue: We have kept returning to the village, with its stunning architecture, some from the 1100's to the 1700's, the serenity of the village and the welcoming nature of our neighbors. After years of visiting, we decided to integrate our lives more clearly, and so we began to look for an apartment to purchase, near the canals that had captured our hearts. Our criteria: a modern kitchen and apartment with character... a Provencal 'sense of place', wih a We are enjoying learning French... visiting the 3rd Generation chocolatier several blocks away, and also trying out the abundance of varied restaurants and tasty menus.
Why they chose this property
Our beloved apartment, with its soaring 10 foot ceilings with elegant, tall windows , looking out at the 12th Century Notre Dame Church of the Angels, several yards across the Arquet Canal. We love the quality of light pouring into the living room and the bedroom, and also the delight of seeing the changing light on the five facing gargoyles, the church bells, ringing at intervals during the day. We cherish walking in the village, with its gentle Provencal light, its canals and abundant ducks, geese, swans, pastry shops, cafés, art galleries, and 300 antique and fine art showrooms. The property, our beloved, spacious apartment, is in the heart of the old village of L'Isle sur la Sorgue, called "the Venice of Provence", is within walking distance of local theatre, up-to-date cinema house, kayaking, pristine walking trails, and a tour of artist studios. Nearby are fields of lavender and sunflowers, with vineyards a bicycle ride or bus ride, away. The local outdoor market twice a week, across the canal, provides fresh and exotic foods, from all over the Mediterranean. Local theater here is superb Easy access via nearby train and bus to neighboring hill top medieval villages and craft markets, also Avignon, with a University, and also immense cultural events and festivals. From our village, popular destinations include Cote d'Azure, and the iconic studios of Monet, Van Gogh, and Renoir.
What makes this property unique
We fell in love with the elegant travertine floors throughout, the stylish Italian globe lighting, the antique writing table by the window facing the Church, the spaciousness of the rooms and unusually tall ceilings. The kitchen is contemporary and new, and full service. We have prepared full dinner party meals and love entertaining in the large living space. The bathroom has travertine stone walls throughout with an elegant shower and washing machine in the closet; Our 700 square foot apartment is sensibly laid out, with a Queen bed in the bedroom, and the option of a Queen comfortable inflatable bed, for the living room. Church bells that ring beautifully during the day, and are respectfully silent at night. We enjoyed acquiring all the Provencal furnishings from nearby antique markets. Each piece of period pottery has a story.
