Your mountain escape begins at the Bear Den Cabin, featuring the most photographed view of the Smoky Mountains in Maggie Valley. Whether you’re celebrating romance, seeking adventure, trying your luck at the Cherokee casino, or simply looking for a mountain retreat, the Bear Den Cabin offers the perfect escape, combining easy access with the ideal balance of privacy and convenience. Cherokee Casino is 20 minutes away. Free EV 240V Charging Outlet in driveway.

Winter guests - please read - The Bear Den Cabin is conveniently located near Highway 19, making it an easy drive, except during snowy conditions. In the event of snow, you will need to park your vehicle on Skyway Drive near Highway 19, where a streetlight provides illumination. From there, it’s a short walk (approximately the length of a football field) to the Bear Den. Please note that this may not be a suitable option for guests with mobility challenges or disabilities. While the state Highway Department maintains Highway 19 with 24/7 snow removal, secondary roads in Haywood County, including the Bear Den do not receive snow removal services.

Relax in the living room’s power leather recliners, perfectly positioned to take in the mountain view or enjoy a movie night on the 65” TV. The primary bedroom features a very soft king-size bed, TV. and convenient USB ports to keep your devices charged throughout your stay.

The fully equipped kitchen features granite countertops, cedar cabinetry, and modern appliances, including a refrigerator with an ice dispenser, a K-Cup coffee maker, and a traditional drip coffee maker. For your convenience, we stock the essentials - dish detergent, hand soap, paper towels, and basic toiletries.

Outdoors, Enjoy the fresh mountain air and unwind in total relaxation! Whether you're relaxing in the deluxe hot tub or swinging on the porch swing, you'll be treated to a breathtaking view of the Smoky Mountains, where elk often wander near the Bear Den Cabin. Love a good picnic? You're all set with two picnic tables and a gas grill, perfect for outdoor dining in the mountains.

Senior Friendly - The Bear Den Cabin is a single-story home with a level driveway and only 3 steps from the driveway to the porch and the road is paved.

EV-Friendly: There is a 240-volt outlet in the driveway for electric vehicles. Guests will need to bring their own compatible charging cable/charger.

Conveniently located just two minutes from downtown Maggie Valley, where you can explore local restaurants, shops, and attractions. The Blue Ridge Parkway and Soco Falls are nearby, offering breathtaking views and excellent hiking trails. Wildlife enthusiasts will appreciate the frequent sightings of elk in the area. For those seeking more excitement, the Cherokee reservation and casino are just a 20-minute drive away.

During cooler evenings, guests may enjoy the indoor fireplace using manufactured firelogs only (such as Duraflame). If you prefer a real wood fire, there is an outdoor firepit built into the mountain - perfect for roasting marshmallows. Please note: no real wood is permitted to be burned inside the house.

The Bear Den Cabin is a smoke-free and pet-free home so if you share the owners allergy to pets this is the cabin for you.

Camera Disclosure: There is a Snow Cam pointing away from the property to overlook the road for checking winter conditions. Additionally, a Ring Doorbell is installed on the exterior door near the driveway, focusing solely on the driveway area.

The host requires you to complete the following before checking out:
Load and start the dishwasher
Strip any used beds and gather used towels
Remove personal items, remove leftover food and drinks and take out the rubbish
Turn off the lights and lock the doors
Place soiled towels in basket near dryer. Wet towels – please leave hanging over the shower rods. Remove used bed linens and place them near the dryer.
Place trash in the container outback. Trash Bags are under the sink.
Remove ashes from fireplace and empty them in the fire pit. If the outside gas grill was used – please clean it. Thermostat – No Action Required.
Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.

Don rucker was a great host. Are stay was great. The best psrt was we were sitting at the kitchen table around 5 and a whole family of elks came down the street. The bed was so comfortable. Thanks to r host he gave us great suggestions on where to eat and things to do.Over all great stay

Thanksgiving in the Mountains

This property was perfect for two of us to get away for Thanksgiving. House was decorated for Christmas and was very nicely furnished. It was close to Maggie Valley and a short drive to Waynesville. We will stay again if we are traveling alone.

Mountains at sunset from the porch

The owner was extremely responsive to an A/C problem and repair crew showed up shortly on Saturday evening. They returned in the morning and replaced bad fan motor on Sunday, amazing response time. Very nice location with the mountain views from the porch we watched the lightning bugs at night. Very clean and comfortable.

The house was clean and tidy with a great view of the fall colors of the mountains surrounding Maggie Valley. Close to everything. Hiking in the Smokey’s was perfect. Don was responsive and provided good tips for our stay. We would certainly stay there again.

Perfect for Us

This is our second stay and it was just as great as the first. The cabin was perfect for our needs. The cabin is not too far up the mountain and has a fabulous view. Quick in and out and close to everything we love about the area. The hummingbirds were a treat! There were no elk this time but we still have the memories of the babies we saw during the first stay.

Quite the adventure

We love staying here!! We came up this trip to celebrate my husband’s 65th birthday & it will be one to remember - Hurricane Helene!! The valley protected us & we never lost power or use of water. Our host stayed in contact with us up until we lost cell coverage & was back with us once our service was restored - thank you Mr. Rucker !!!

We were hoping for rest & relaxation & we were not disappointed - we are an older couple & this place was perfect for us!! We really enjoyed our morning coffee on the porch swing, afternoons relaxing in the hot tub & evening meals outside by the fire pit. We had plenty of entertainment with watching all the hummingbirds & an occasional visit by the elk. We loved this place & hope to return again soon!! Don is an amazing host!!!

Peaceful View

This home/spot was one of our favorites! We have stayed in many VRBO rentals and by far this was one of the best. Home was very clean and best bed ever for a rental. We enjoyed the area and will definitely be back. Don was a very gracious host. Check in with us through email to make sure all was well and asked us to reach out if we needed anything. We live in Summerville, South Carolina and we have visted Maggie Valley since the 80's and we purchased our Maggie Valley Vacation home in 2007. We rent our home on VRBO only so other folks can enjoy what we enjoy and we put 100% of all rental income back into keeping the house up to date. Our goal is to provide a vacation home that is well furnished and comfortable to visit.

Why they chose this property

Terri and I wanted an incredible view without having to drive up a long mountain road to enjoy it. We also wanted a place with enough land so we could enjoy our yard and porch without being distracted by the neighbors and our Mountain Community provides just the right amount of privacy. We also ride a Harley Davidson so having a paved access road is very important to us.
