Perfection
Joceylne and Gerard were amazing hosts and their house is perfect. The pictures don't really convey how wonderful the property is - it is so much larger than it looks.
First of all, the location is great. The yard is spacious and very well maintained. It was a little chilly for us to use the pool, but that didn't stop us from sitting around and enjoying the ambiance. The rest of the yard, from a little dining table to various chairs set around offer a lot of vantage points to soak in the day or lay back and enjoy the stars of Provence. Optimal stargazing time is any time after 10PM.
Inside, the kitchen, living room, sun room and bedrooms are big, charmingly decorated and well appointed. It is clear that a lot of love and attention went into this place. Most of our time in the house was spent in the patio room enjoying our food and wine purchases. I have no complaints at all. The house exceeds expectations.
You can easily take the 10 to 15 minute walk into town. Get used to hills, but that it just a fact of visiting a medieval village. Once you get used to that and get your bearings, you can really appreciate the walk. We burned off a number of degustations on the nice walk home.
On a larger scale, the location is superb as a base point for visiting other cities and villages in the area. We always took the scenic roads and were overwhelmed with just how beautiful the whole area is. An hour or so in any direction will get you to towns that all have their own unique flavors.
I do feel I have to state this again - Jocelyne and Gerard were amazing hosts. We drove down from Lyon and the trip took a bit longer than we anticipated. Despite our late arrival, we were welcomed and made to feel at home. The couple are lovely, wonderful people. We spent an evening having wine with them and really got to appreciate how warm and accommodating they are. On a personal note, my wife, Dora, would like to say "Merci!" to Jocelyne and Gerard for their patience in helping her with her French.
If we ever return to Châteauneuf-du-Pape, we will certainly book our trip with plans on returning here. It is like a home away from home that exceeeded all expectations.
