About this property
PRIVATE SUITE WITH a VIEW
We are in a quiet neighborhood 5.3 miles from the airport on the bluff overlooking the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. This area is protected habitat for Sandhill cranes, eagles, black bear, moose, etc. The tides make the breathtaking scenery change by the minute. We have a separate arctic entry into our home ( in which we live) for guests and the guest space ( 1 bedroom, one living room area, small kitchen, and one full bath) is a mother in law space. There is a locked door at the end of the hall for privacy. The guest space is perfect for one party of 1-2 people: The full bath is a walk through from one bedroom to the living room area, w/ locking doors on either side. We upgraded last spring added a small kitchen, replaced all of the flooring, and changed out the 2nd bedroom to living room.

Thank you Dan and Linda. We’re glad that you enjoyed your stay. You are welcome back anytime, hopefully there will be less wild fire smoke on future trips!
We were welcomed and treated like family by a lovely couple, Louise and Steve. Thanks to you guys for helping out the way you did in a difficult moment my wife and I had to go through.
The view is beautiful. The suite is very quaint and cute. It was perfect size for my husband and I, we had a wonderful honeymoon at this location. The owners are very nice and professional. You hardly even know they are there but always willing to answer questions if you have any. The pictures are a little outdated so there have been a few upgrades. We loved it here!

Thank you Hannah, we are happy that you enjoyed your stay. You and your husband are welcome back anytime, you were lovely guests!
Beautiful property. The main bedroom had a gorgeous view. The second room was cozy. A perfect place for couples. But a bit awkward if both bedrooms were being used.
Lousie and Steve were wonderful hosts. I loved the bunnies that lived in the back yard around the great deck.
On the last morning, there was a mother moose and her big male baby in the front yard. They are such majestic creatures, they kept me from taking a walk but watching them wonderful!

Thank you for your kind words. We do not rent the 2 rooms to separate parties, they go together bc they share a connected full bathroom and there is a second half bath. It is perfect for a couple, family of 3-4, or two couples traveling together who don’t mind the connected walk through bathroom. I’ve tried to make this clear in the listing description so there are no surprises! The wildfire smoke is clearing and we can view the mountains from the deck again!
The suite was adequate for our needs for this trip. We were a bit taken back at the fact that it was not a detached in law suite. There is a semi- private entrance that can be locked, you enter a hallway with a half bath for your use on one side and the other is the door into your rented space. The smaller of the two bedrooms has a futon like mattress double in size and plenty of books to read. You then walk through a full bath to enter the larger bedroom which includes a dining area and the kitchenette. I felt the kitchenette was not practical for much more then coffee and rewarming leftovers. The owners were kind enough to get you started with coffee and a few snacks. The neighborhood is quiet and the view out the window is spectacular. This space met our needs for this trip as we were traveling alone and did not plan to entertain at our place as this would not have been convenient at all. I personally would not recommend for small children (space is limited and you are attached to the owners home) nor for unrelated adults as there is not a separate door to the bath/toilet room.

I'm sorry that you found our property less than you expected. I just re-read my description on VRBO and I added a line about the full bathroom being a walk through, although there already was a photo of this and all other information was already in the description: it does state that it is a private arctic entry into our home, two bedrooms and 1.5 bath w/ kitchenette in bedroom 1, futon in bedroom 2. There are also photos of each room and the walk- through bath. I took photos of each room so guests would not be surprised or disappointed. I stated that the space is perfect for a family of 3-4 or a couple or two close couples. We have hosted several families of 4 including some with small children, and since we welcome their use of the yard and hot tub, we have had no complaints about the space from them. I agree it is not a space for entertaining and I expect most people would not expect to entertain in a two bedroom suite .
Visited Anchorage for the 1st time. Louise and her husband were very accommodating. Helped with recommendations in the surrounding area. We enjoyed using their deck with its amazing view.
Also Louise has a hiking club! Amazing people! Happy to have stayed here and met them!

About the host
Hosted by Louise Wood
We both grew up in Anchorage and raised our daughters in this neighborhood. They have gone off to college and we converted part of our "empty nest" to welcome travelers. We are in an awesome, secluded location in Anchorage with fabulous views and privacy. We love to share our fantastic location with others! We spend much of our time outdoors: hiking, running, mountain biking, Nordic , downhill skiing and fat tire biking from our home.
Why they chose this property
Simply the view of the refuge. Our property is close to the airport and convenient to midtown as well as to the trails at Kincaid park or the Chugach State park trail system. We have easy access to many outdoor activities.
What makes this property unique
Private quiet neighborhood with fantastic views, convenient to town.
