Great property, ideal for a large group of people. Easy to find and good location for visiting some of the local wineries. Cottage was very clean, however, previous renters seemed to have put away dishes that were not fully clean. Overall, we had a good experience and a great weekend.
This property was beautiful and our guests enjoyed the comfortable beds and spacious house. HOWEVER - there were several major problems:
- The property is not as it was advertised. We booked a 5-bedroom property, and later found out that the house is only 4 bedrooms, and the bunkie up the hill has the 5th bedroom and needed to be rented at an additional cost. This was not stated anywhere in the original ad, and although the owner gave us a discount on the bunkie rental cost, we still had to pay an additional cleaning fee, on top of an already expensive extra rental fee. We were informed 2 days before we arrived that the TV and cable were not functioning in the bunkie.
- We assumed that the tap water was safe to drink, since the owner had said nothing about it, there was no bottled water available, and there was a drinking cup beside the bathroom sink. When I asked for assurance on the second day, the owner stated that he had not tested the water but he personally wouldn't trust it. We informed him that the public health department requires owners to supply drinking water in vacation rental properties, and to do regular tests on the well supply. He sent a neighbour to get a water sample for the lab, but did not supply any bottled water to us.
- The unpaved driveway to the property is treacherous, especially in rainy weather. It is very steep and rutted. Getting to and from the property caused a lot of stress, even though the owner warned us about it the day before we arrived.
- I would suggest that the owner have a 'Welcome' book to give guests more information about the property, such as the water conditions off the dock, the idiosyncrasies of the bunkie bathroom toilet and light fixture, and other information to make guests feel welcome.
We have rented many Vrbo properties and have never experienced so many problems before this.
