The Junction-backwoods tiny home on brook trout stream with mountain ridge view
We're open-Hurricane Helen spared our county!
Are the backwoods calling? Travel on uneven gravel & dirt to arrive at this tiny home and unique setting. 400 sq ft cabin overlooks two boulder filled creeks plus a mountain ridge view! 2 mi from paved road w/shallow potholes & rocks. 5" clearance (not 4WD) needed. NOT suitable for motorcycles. (Charging EV batteries not allowed. Venomous snakes and wild animals live in the woods) Use ONLY our directions and you'll enjoy the adventure getting here!
Logging days of the past used the creeks to harvest timber. Now their roads bring you to this little cabin with lots of white noise. Bring your pole as it's home to wild brook trout or hatchery supported downstream.
Country décor shows logging history in this well-equipped 400 sq ft cabin. Relax on the deck or take a nap in the covered porch. Walk your own private trail that leads to the creek-side deck.
The Nantahala National Forest is our backyard and playground. Bring your outdoor gear for adventure right outside your door. Come "tame the dragon", ride the "Cherohala Skyway" or "hug" a tree at Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest.
"It was hard to leave" is the best compliment we get! We hope to hear from ya!

Absolutely breathtaking! Relaxation and beauty at its finest. Perfectly appointed, this cabin is one of the best VRBO's we have ever spent time in! The sound of the creek lulled us into a tranquil state. The majestic trees surrounding the cabin made it feel like we were spending the night in a tree house.
The Junction exceeded our expections. Peace and quiet, beautiful scenery and plenty of trout (mainly rainbows). The terrace was perfect for relaxing and enjoying the sound of the creek. We hope to come back some day.
We absolutely loved the setting and the accommodations. We only wish we would have stayed more than one night and hope to go back for a longer stay in the future. Host left lots of information on things to do in the area as well as maps. We used this information to plan a visit to the Joyce Kilmer memorial forest and absolutely loved it! We highly recommend this property for anyone looking to get away from it all.
This property was nothing short of amazing. Exactly as described, it was incredibly peaceful and the perfect way to spend our 18th anniversary. We absolutely loved our short stay here and can’t wait to come back and spend more time when we can stay longer. Alice was the perfect host and was very responsive. Even left us homemade muffins in the kitchen, which were delicious.
LOVED this cabin! My goal was to "unplug" from the outside world and get away by myself for a couple days. Got exactly that. :) Beautiful area and the cabin itself is perfect for this type of getaway. Also really enjoyed getting to chat with the owners upon check-in; they seem like great people! Definitely would love to stay again in the future.
Doug & Alice were very kind & responsive to our needs! It is a wonderful remote cabin. It is easily 30 minutes from town because of the distance and gravel road. Like being in a rain forest with the constant sound of rushing water from the river nearby. Peaceful retreat!
My husband and I stayed here as a getaway for my birthday and we could not have asked for a better location, cabin, and host. We had an amazing amount of privacy, and the creek below provides a beautiful 24/7 sound bath. Alice is an absolute gem of a host, and it’s obvious just how much pride she and Doug take in making sure this cabin remains clean and in beautiful condition. The cabin provides absolutely everything you need (except groceries, of course). We were lucky to have found this place and we would absolutely LOVE to come back and enjoy The Junction again and again. Thank you for making my birthday so special, Alice and Doug!!!!
This is the perfect place to disconnect from the daily grind and reconnect with your spouse. We so enjoyed the fact that nature surrounded us and reminded us we where all that was needed. The cabin is beautiful and stocked with all the essentials, just bring your groceries and get ready to unwind. We walked the creek, drove the mountains and even played board games, most of all we held hands, talked and enjoyed our time together. Perfect is what it seems to be.
This place is a little slice of heaven on earth. Alice is the most wonderful host and her written directions to the cabin is perfect. She thought of every detail. We got there after dark and the house was lit up with a small Christmas tree and just enough lighting that it reminded me of Thomas Kincaid art. My BF and I had the most wonderful relaxing time. I can’t wait to go back!
We have stayed at a number of VRBO rentals, none more relaxing than The Junction. From the remoteness of the location to the coziness and cleanliness of the tiny cabin, it was perfect for our needs. And the fly fishing was note worthy, both for the beauty of the creek(s) and for the results. If you enjoy somewhat arduous wading, you can find it in Squally, especially well above the cabin.
We look forward to a return visit.
Thanks again to Alice and Doug for the experience and for their hospitality!

What a quaint surprise, tucked away in the serene hollow of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mtns. The creek was perfect and the cabin was everything we needed and wished for! We did a lot of our cooking and the kitchen is efficient. No cell signal and no WiFi took some getting used to, lol, but was exactly what we needed to recharge. We walked the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest Trail and must say, it’s amazing!!! Allow yourself a couple of hours to really take it all in.
Quiet, peaceful, calming; this is how I would describe this trip to The Junction. It felt so good to unplug and just connect with nature in this beautiful setting: the cabin is high in the trees above a rolling creek--I loved to raise the windows and listen to it as we fell asleep. My husband was able to enjoy a little trout fishing, and I just relaxed and enjoyed the setting. We loved it! Our hosts were very helpful and accommodating! If you are looking to relax and enjoy a peaceful setting, this is an awesome place to do it!
This property is all about enjoying the simple pleasures of nature in a true getaway location, and with all the "aaaahhhhhh" factor one could want. The owners were friendly, responsive, and extremely helpful and the cabin while small, is a perfect size for 2-4. It is neat as a pin and tastefully decorated. Further, it's very well appointed with any necessity one could want.
If you want/need "something to do" - read as "entertainment" - The Junction is not for you; if you want a marvelous dose of peace and quiet, true natural beauty, and a place you can find needed respite, you won't find a better experience or value. You won't want to leave any more than we did!
I was really looking for a place that was off the beaten path, in nature, without distractions. This place had exactly that! Small and cozy with all the essentials. Very clean, very beautiful, I only wish I had had more time there. I could have spend an entire day in the creek looking for minerals and rocks. No internet or cell service, but don’t worry, the office was on Comedy Central. Review from two 39 year olds.
Host is attentive and responsive. Thanks for the great stay. Highly recommend
Once you arrive at the cabin/tiny house it is adorable and very tranquil and has all of your basic needs. I suggest you arrive at the cabin during daylight hours. We made the mistake of arriving at nightfall and it made locating it tricky. I am more of a going places and doing things kind of person so that required a lot of driving as the little town of Robbinsville has nothing to offer. However, you can get to Bryson and Cherokee in a little over an hour or so. If you really want to just relax and disconnect from the world, this is your place.
Wonderful. Away from the electronic bombardment that we face everyday. Would highly recommend to nature lovers and people that love to cook and just enjoy the moment. The creek and deck are so special.

About the host
Hosted by Alice Lumbard
We're Doug and Alice, originally from Illinois. We missed our creek property and slower lifestyle so we moved into our tiny vacation home upstream from The Junction.
Why they chose this property
We enjoyed sharing our little "glamping" cabin, "The Owl's Perch" (#1891123), so we purchased "The Junction". We remodeled it, cleared the view and gave it a name. We’d love to share either with you!
What makes this property unique
You just can't beat the sound of a rushing creek and solitude the forest offers. We welcome you to come experience small living and see why less is more!
