Perfect Alaska ... umm ... Washington Beach Cottage
If you're lucky enough to have a sunny day or two, I can't think of a more spectacular place to spend it. The beach is wide and sandy at low tide, the view of the Olympics is amazing, and you pretty much have the whole scene to yourself. Quite a place!

Oh my goodness Mark! Thank you so much for your kind review. These are my favorite things about our home. We are so happy you had a great stay and hope to host you again in the future.
Just amazing! My sister and I quarantined so we could have a weekend away together to celebrate my birthday. This home couldn’t have been more relaxing. Everything was perfect and we are eager to go back in the summer! Thank you to the wonderful hostess for being so responsive and for the Prosecco! An extra bonus!

Thank you Jenny! I am sorry I did not see how to respond to this earlier. We are so happy you enjoyed your stay.
The pure magic of this special place enveloped us the moment we pulled into the drive (actually, the moment we found the listing on Vrbo). We absolutely LOVED it here and were very sad to leave. The private cove, the serenity, amazing views and sound of the waves at eery turn and excitement of our eagle and deer friends.
Thank you so much Donna for sharing your precious home and the sweet story of it's evolution. The love that went into building it really shows. We hope to be back for a longer stay next summer.

LONG REVIEW! ;)
Words cannot describe the natural wonder of this place. To call it "magic" does not even do it justice. We had never used the VRBO site before and knew little about it. Donna was incredibly helpful in guiding us and answered all our questions promptly. Samantha had the home ready for us at check -in and set the ambiance for our arrival. This hidden gem truly is surreal. It's perched on a cliffside that overlooks your own private little cove. We watched the birds play in the water, listened to the wind and the waves crash along the rocks. Splashed around in the water along the beach and rested our weary souls sitting upon the large outdoor chair up on the hill that overlooked the water. We often sat with the sliding door open and just rested on the couch, minds wandering and empty of worry. The view from the dining room is amazing! You look straight down into the water. Sunsets looked like something out of a painting - blues and pinks splashed across the horizon. The sailboats in the distance, the stars twinkling down at us. The ocean facing bedroom which we slept in feels like a treehouse with the gnarled Madrone trees right outside the window! I kept expecting to wake up as if from a dream. How could this place be real?! But it is, and so much more than that - this unique cabin by the sea is a HOME while you are there. Not just a flat, soulless motel room. There is a wonderful history to this cabin, one documented in the album you'll find on a shelf. Do take the time to read it. It's amazing what this family has accomplished in building this serene home. There's a lot of love here.
If you're looking for a place to relax, reconnect, and recharge your soul - look no more. We went from planning a busy L.A. vacation...to switching that out for this life changing retreat to soothe our hurts and ease our stress. Warm is both the feeling and the setting of this cabin. And it came at a time much needed for my husband and I, who have had a rough last few years and needed the break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It's clean, quaint, and full of a soothing energy and natural light.
This is truly the place to rest your weary hearts and souls and soak in a little piece of mother nature's magic. The world is still a beautiful place. You just have to look around.
So much thanks to Donna & Bob for being the kind of people to share such beauty with the world, and open their historical home to others.

Thank you so very much! This has to be one of our most touching reviews. We are so happy you were able to feel every heartfelt detail we intended our guest to experience when deciding to share our home. It is truly one of a kind and unique. So much love and many happy memories have been and continue to be made here. We could not be happier giving other families an opportunity to build their own wonderful memories in such a special place.
A fantastic stay all around! The views, the charm, the nature — all wonderful. Our kids never left the beach. The sunsets on the deck were gorgeous. Everything was well-stocked and felt like home. We would love to return!
Rented for three nights of solo time away from pandemic lockdown with my family. Absolutely beautiful setting. Wonderful cabin that’s been cherished and cared for by generations of family. I thoroughly enjoyed the sunsets from the deck, the turntable and vinyl collection, and treasure hunting on the beach. Thank you!

Thank you for this beautiful review Jennifer. We are thrilled you enjoyed your stay and that you enjoyed the turntables. Bob's mother loved working on projects while dancing. I remember her telling me how excited she was when the 58 first came out and she was able to purchase it. The beach seemed a perfect place for others to visit the past and experience how people used to listen to music:-)
We loved the area of this cottage, it was stocked with all of the essentials and close enough to all activities you might want to enjoy while on the San Juan’s. Donna was a huge help with any questions we had before and during our stay. This is where you come to detach from the world and honestly no better scenery to do it amongst.

Thank you so much for this beautiful review Michelle and for being such wonderful guest!
All of the glowing reviews sum it up so well -- this is a very comfortable, cozy, well-appointed cabin in a simply spectacular setting. I can't imagine a better getaway, especially during the pandemic, to recharge and spend quality time with the loved ones inside your COVID bubble. Communication with the owners and property manager was awesome, very prompt and thorough. I was especially impressed with how clean the place is, quality of linens and furnishings, games and DVDs, and charming decor. There's so much to do in the area -- we especially liked Bowman Bay and Rosario Beach, walking down to Alexander Beach, and taking in the views at Mt. Erie and Cap Sante. We are looking forward to coming back in the summer or fall. Highly recommend!!

We love this property and the return visit did not disappoint. Its a wonderful location to escape the city, Covid, the news and just chill with nature, the water, with plenty to do in the area for those into hiking, cycling, beach combing and just relaxing. Bob and Donn are wonderful hosts, and the property is well appointed and obviously loved and used. We will be back!

We could of not been more happy with our choice to stay at this house. The views are breathtaking, we looked forward to coming back at the end of the day to make dinner and sit on the deck and look out at the beautiful scenery. If we ever come back to Washington this is the only place we will ever stay. Thank you so much for everything

Wow Kayla! Thank you so much for the beautiful review. It's so true, even after all these years, we still can't get enough of those views. I think it is the perfect placement of how our home sits. We are so happy your stay was everything you hoped for and hope you can come again someday!
This cabin reminded us of summer cabins on the coast of Norway, but with a better beach! It is furnished with comfortable beds so we all slept well. Some of the furnishings are antiques that fit well with the general ambiance of the cabin. We loved it and hope to stay there again.

As someone who grew up in the Skagit Valley and lived on Fidalgo and Geumes islands for a time, I can absolutely assure you that this side of Fidalgo is unlike any other spot you will find in the San Juans. Breathtaking views and sunsets, you can hear the tides, and the eagles that perch 50 feet from the deck actually provided a well needed new found respect for how utterly gargantuan these majestic raptors are. They are beautiful and stunning. We saw them every morning. House itself is very, very cool. Large kitchen, large living room, literally anything you need is there. They even have a cool little medicine cabinet that is stocked with over the counter medicines for whatever ails you. We had an amazing experience there and would highly recommend it to anyone. You literally have an entire beach and area on the rocks overlooking the water all to yourself. It is private, beautiful and tastefully decorated.

Thank you so much Peter! There truly is no place like our side of Fidalgo. We are so happy you found it to be as special as we do. We love sharing this experience and want our guest to feel at home. It was very fun to update and decorate. I can't wait to add to our family history book. We truly hope you can visit again sometime!
The cabin is situated on a small cliff above the water. It is a charming little place with a documented history. Even though this place lacks in modern amenities (no laundry, dishwasher, or WiFi), it still was a very pleasant stay with lots to do from the cabin (access to the beach and several bald eagle sightings) and around the area.
We mostly enjoyed the smell of the ocean, sound of the waves crashing, and our walks on the beach. We were able to see Harbor Porpoises one morning and the sunsets are absolutely breath taking! Perfect space for a family of 3. We were able to rewind and relax at our stay while enjoying the short drive to the Anacortes and Deception Pass State Park. An amazing stay that we couldn't asked for more!

What a lovely place to reccharge and relax! The cabin is beautiful with it's own private setting and beach. When the tide is out you are able to take strolls right out the back deck. The inside is comfortable and charming. We were there 3 days, but we were so relaxed that it felt like a week had gone by!! It is definetely a place that I would recommend and hope to get back to again! Thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us!

About the host
Hosted by Donna Jones
Bob and I were both born and raised in Renton, Washington. We currently live in Renton. We have two boutiques, one in Renton and one in Gig Harbor. Our home has been in Bob's family since the '50s. He has the best memories of coming up with his grandparents. Anacortes is our second home. Every time we visit we want to stay!
Why they chose this property
Bob's grandparents had several properties to choose from in 1949, but this was their favorite. They loved the idea of building a cabin upon the rock. They envisioned the magnificent views, and when the tide was in, having their own private beach made this property the winner! In 2014 the home was put on the market. Bob and I just could not let it go. We were fortunate to purchase it, keeping it in the family. It is a favorite place to visit for our children, grandchildren, and friends. While we have done some updates, we have tried to keep it cozy and comfortable. We want it to feel like you are at home. The small fireplace was added along with the bookshelves and vintage books with short stories to make even a stormy day feel comfortable. We could not be more excited to share the beautiful experience of spending time in our home.
What makes this property unique
Although the San Juan's are considered a banana belt, it is not as popular to visit in the winter. Honestly, we have had the most beautiful days on the deck year-round. We rarely see a day without sunshine. The sunsets are magnificent! Because Alexander beach is a private beach, you may find you are one of the only people on the beach. The eagles love to perch on a tree just off the side of our deck. They are used to visitors making photo opportunities or just spending time watching them possible.
