About this property

Chuckanut Beachfront Sanctuary

Welcome to Chuckanut Beachfront Sanctuary, a secluded four bedroom, three bathroom oceanfront home just minutes from Fairhaven, Bellingham, Washington.

This home sits in a serene pocket off iconic Chuckanut Drive and offers stunning view of Puget Sound, its own private beach, and immediate access to hiking and biking trails in adjacent Larrabee State Park.

Having recently undergone a top-to-bottom architectural renovation, the home is comfortable, quiet, and perfect for a getaway.

"I cannot explain to you the feeling you get when staying in this beautiful home. the location is something out of dreams and the home is perfect with EVERY amenity you could imagine. So peaceful and relaxing."

Serene. Private. Natural. Oceanfront.

LOCATION:
Chuckanut Beachfront Sanctuary sits within a quiet and peaceful ocean-front pocket just off of iconic Chuckanut Drive. The home faces directly west with expansive views of the ocean (Samish Bay / Bellingham Bay), nearby islands, and San Juan Islands beyond. You will enjoy a well-tended native-focused garden, your own private beach, and easy access to Larrabee State Park and other nearby attractions such as Fairhaven in Bellingham and Edison at the northern end of Skagit Valley.

VIEWS and WILDLIFE:
Expansive ocean views. Seals often bask on nearby rocks and frolic in the waters. A river otter family resides on the nearby coast and is frequently seen within the bay. Resident bald eagles populate nearby ocean-front trees and are often heard vocalizing in the morning. Harbor porpoises occasionally cruise by the bay. Rarely whales (grey whales, orcas) have been seen from the home. Tide-pooling creatures (small crabs, limpets, sea snails, oysters, sculpin) of all types can be seen up close on your own private beach.

HOME:
There are four dedicated bedrooms. The main bedroom has a king sized bed and private en-suite with walk-in shower, dual washbasins, and Japanese-style commode. This bedroom also has a walk-in closet, a private door directly to the ocean-facing deck, and expansive ocean views.

The second and third bedrooms each have queen sized beds, large built-in closets, and expansive ocean views. The fourth bedroom has a full-sized bed. The fourth bedroom doubles as a gym / workout room. The main and fourth bedroom each have large flat-screen TVs.

There is a sleeper sofa with queen-size pull-out bed located in the second (lower-level) living / family room. Please ask if you wish to use this item.

There are three bathrooms. One is the main bedroom ensuite described above. Another is also on the main (upper) level that contains a tub/shower and toilet. Another is on the lower level (locations of bedrooms 2-4) that contains a walk-in shower and toilet.

The home recently underwent a top-to-bottom renovation with a focus on comfort and energy efficiency. There is heated and cooled via reverse-cycle heat-pumps, with a distributed system serving the upper level and individual "mini-split" units serving the downstairs family room and bedrooms with the exception of the fourth bedroom that is instead heated with radiant heat.

The home is also ventilated with a whole home "heat recovery ventilation" system. This system helps to keep fresh (and filtered) outside air continuously circulating within the home.

High-efficiency windows and doors were installed as part of the recent renovation. Keeping them closed helps to minimize heat loss (or intrusion in summer). Of course, windows and doors can be opened; temperatures are usually mild and comfortable for much of the warmer months (May - September).

There is a full laundry with washing supplies, washer, dryer, rack(s) to hang dry clothes, iron and ironing board.

There is a two car garage with power garage door opener.

HOT TUB:
A four-person hot tub is located in the ocean-facing garden. Adventurous types may wish to do a cold-water ocean plunge (or longer swim) followed by a hot tub soak (following, of course, a quick fresh water rinse with the garden hose).

KAYAKS AND PADDLEBOARDS:
There are two kayaks and two stand-up paddle boards that are free to use at your own risk. Lifejackets are also provided. Coastline with incredible sandstone formations is easily accessible from the private beach.

FAMILY FUN:
In addition to the above there is a small collection of fiction and non-fiction books, legos, boardgames, a Nintendo Switch Console, a swing set (in upper yard) for children, and a portable pickle-ball set that can be setup and played in the driveway. There is also a portable "Solostove" fire pit that can be set up in the yard to help extend outdoor time. Or instead create a small beach fire to enjoy sunsets by the water and s'mores.

AREA ATTRACTIONS:
Larrabee State Park is a very short walk from the home. Here you will find multiple hiking and mountain biking trails amongst mature forest with occasional ocean views and mountain forest lakes.

Perfect weekend get-away for our family. The house was immaculate and spacious, with a large, well-stocked kitchen for cooking, comfortable beds and hangout spaces, and thoughtful touches throughout. Fabulous views, with kayaking and easy access to beach and hiking trails (Clayton Beach and Larrabee State Park) and nearby seafood spots (Taylor’s Shellfish). Perfect for day trip to Bellingham/Fairhaven.

This was just the best. Every time I thought oh I forgot plates for the toddlers or oh I wish I had brought sand toys for the beach- this place had that and more to make a really lovely stay even better. From the views to the comfortable furniture and beds and even the plethora of legos in the play room it could not have been a better stay.
