Gerbers 1870 Chalet - A touch of Bavaria in Canada
Built in 1870 by the first homesteaders on this Ottawa Valley farm, the earliest incarnation would have been as a small barn but it was turned into a charming guest house reflecting the German heritage of the current owners. With a living room, kitchen, three-piece bath, bedroom and separate loft area with a double bed, there is enough room for four comfortably. Ideal for families or couples traveling together, it is decorated to reflect both the German heritage of the original owners and some East Tennessee touches from the family tree. There is a private bedroom with a queen bed, a loft with a double bed and a small (twin) loveseat pull out couch. The bedroom and loft are upstairs and the bathroom, kitchen, living/dining area are downstairs. The chalet is on the property of a working plant nursery, Gerber's Nursery. It is across from the main house and provides privacy in a beautiful setting.

Many thanks to Debbi and her family for hosting us in this lovely chalet. We visited during the winter and enjoyed the peace and quiet of the chalet. I thought that I would miss having access to an oven but it turned out that the stove top and toaster oven met our needs. A walk to the Gerber beach and view of the frozen Golden Lake was lovely. Thanks again.
We were looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway, and we found it! This chalet is so charming and quiet. The hosts are experienced and you can tell they put love and pride into their hosting. We were comfortable, cozy, and had plenty of privacy. The location is picturesque and the chalet is stocked with plenty for relaxation. We explored the walk to the beach, and I would come back with my kids for a fun trip in the warm months.
Would definitely come back here, it's praeceful, beautiful, and lovely!
Stayed here as part of a road trip through Ontario. Place is very clean, hosts communicated very well for any questions or concerns. The property is a plant nursery, even in the fall there were some plants and flowers around, cool to see that. The chalet/cabins do not feel isolated (whether this is good or bad depends on your preference), the hosts live in the larger house right next to them. About 1.5 hour drive from Algonquin hiking trails. Also not too far from Ottawa.

It is a functioning nursery, so there were flowers all around, which is really lovely. It would have been nice if the stay included an option to tour the nursery or have a conversation about the flowering plants. Some guests may be interested in more than just a place to stay.

This was a beautiful property located in Gerbers Nursery. It’s quiet, safe, peaceful and a lovely cabin that had everything I needed, including WiFi and TV. It was a mixture of old history meets modern. My family and I had a great stay and hope to stay again next year! Thank you Deb for a wonderful stay!!
We had a lovely stay and we felt very welcomed. We had a private beach to use by the lake. Highly recommend it.

What you see in the pictures is what you get. But it’s a bit nicer in person.
Very relaxing and home-away-from-home feeling. A lot of nice beaches within an hours drive. We went to Ottawa for fireworks. (Hour and a half drive). There’s no shortage of hiking/biking trails and beaches within 20 minutes as well. Love the area and for the price this is the place to go.
Very sweet host who couldn’t be more helpful.

It's a tiny little cottage, but it made it cozy. Lots of throws and blankets. The fridge was pretty tiny which caused some problems with food we had brought with us in coolers. Their telephone lines went down that morning (Friday) and they couldn't get out until Monday to look at it. So the tv/wifi might not have even been their fault, but the host (female) was out of town that weekend and her husband seemed pretty disinterested in helping us. We got CBC news the one night he helped us but never got anything the next day and a half. It seemed like it was our problem, not his, so we didn't ask for help after that. We just read instead of watching anything. I'm sure it would be better if we went again; it was the first two nights of our two week vacation so it was just a bummer way to start out.
The chalet is cozy and inviting. We enjoyed the history of the place and the amenities. We are definitely planning on going back in the winter. We want to thank Debbi and her husband for sharing this very cool place with the rest of us. They could just keep it private but it would be a lost for so many! Until our next visit...

I had such a pleasant stay. The space is clean, safe, and comfortable, and the surroundings are beautiful - both more broadly (the lake, the river, the long road out) and quite specifically (the nursery itself, surrounding buildings on the property, the rows of herbs and petunias). Debbi is so kind and welcoming. I look forward to my next visit!
We visited on the off season and it was spectacular. I couldn't get over how quiet it was in the cottage. Very cozy and full of things to appreciate from books to movies, from art to crafts. The walk to the lake was well worth it, hope to get back for the winter snows and do some snow shoeing.
The property has the perfect location to discover the area, hiking at Barron Canyon, visiting Provincial parks and caves etc. The Chalet is super quiet, cozy and charming. Very clean and private. We had a great time.
Great property, amazing staff, welcoming host. Definately going back. Thank you for making our vacation so peaceful and enjoyable..
